"So," he said as they walked down the hall toward her weyr. "Do you
have a craft?" He carried a large dish of mixed berries and another
smaller one of whipped cream.
"Dragonhealing," Saibra answered, "I even managed to work myself up to
a journeywoman status before Thread began to fall again. When I was
just a junior goldrider at Far Island I was able to be fairly active
in the dragon infirmary. Now that I am Cyradis's second, and
especially since she is pregnant, I do not get to spend as much time
with it." It pleased her that Saidrene had followed in her footsteps
and was pursuing a craft in dragonhealing as well. She only hoped that
the teenager managed to Impress so that she could further her
education in the field.
"That's an excellent craft," he smiled as he pushed her door open and
waited for her to precede him. "I"m sure you'll be able to pick it up
again once your duties calm down."
"I hope so," Saibra agreed, "I think having a goldrider who is also
trained in dragohealing is a considerable asset." With Chioneth's
authority and ability to command the lesser color dragons, it made
Saibra's ability to work with the injured dragon much easier.
"I'm sure it does." he smiled. "Rhosyn also has some dragonhealing
experience. I heard her grumbling that her Weyrdragonhealer gave her
some guff recently because of her pregnancy though." He set the food
on her table and closed the door behind them. He was pretty sure
Saibra didn't know his history with the Riverbluff Weyrwoman yet, so
as he walked toward her he waved a hand. "We've been friends since we
were both at Vista Point and Mnoranth won one of her flights."
Saibra had never met Rhosyn before, but had heard various things about
the Riverbluff Weyrwoman. She had heard that the woman was a drama
queen, and an attention-seeker. She wouldn't repeat these things to
R'enh, however, and since she had never met the woman, did not know if
they were true or not.
"I would love to see the Weyrdragonhealer that tried to give me guff."
Saibra said with a snort. The man would be lucky to have a head left
when she was finished chewing him out.
The Weyrwoman's Second's weyr was rearranged differently than the last
time that R'enh had been there. Saibra couldn't help it, she just
liked moving things around. Yet, the place was neat and tidy, with
only a few of Kaibren's toys, and one of Saidrene's scarfs laying on the table.
"I'll bet," R'enh chuckled. Though privately he thought the
Dragonhealer probably was in the right in Rhosyn's case.
Saibra sat down in one of the chairs around the table where R'enh had
left the food. Out of habit she pulled her legs up, sitting
criss-cross style as she got comfortable and grabbed out one of the
sweetrolls from the basket.
R'enh pulled the chair next to her and leaned into it stretching his
lanky frame out and crossing his ankles. He reached out with his right
hand to snag a couple of berries to much on.
As the man ate Saibra noticed on his right hand the lack of a little
finger. Her eyebrow rose, "What happened?" She asked, pointing to his
hand.
He smiled and reached over with his other hand to pull up his sleeve.
"I was scored in the second Fall of the Pass," he said showing her the
threading that went up his arm almost to his elbow. "Mnoranth took a
bigger hit on his side. We were far luckier than many others." His
hand ran down the side of his right thigh. "Here too."
Saibra's gaze trailed from the man's thigh back up to his face, "I've
got one on my lower back and right hip. I leaned forward to try and
dodge it. My coat rode up and left my back exposed."
"Ouch," he grimaced. "I'll show you mine if you show me yours," he
waggled a suggestive eyebrow.
The woman flashed R'enh a perfect row of teeth as her lips curved up
into a smile, "I think that sounds like a fair deal." She said with a
wink, her hands skimming along the hem of her shirt. "But not at the
table." Saibra stood and led the way over to the couch by the fire.
R'enh smiled and followed her to the couch. "Whose first?"
Saibra's response was to lift her tunic over her head. Turning her
back to him, she peered at him over her shoulder. Down her lower back
crisscrossed a threadscore that disappeared into the waistband of her
breeches.
R'enh reached out a finger to pull the waistband out a little "How far
does it go down," he teased.
"Why don't you look and see?" She quirked an eyebrow.
He chuckled softly and reached around to unfasten her trousers. Once
the waistband was loosened he used both hands to scoop them off her
luscious flesh and take a good long look. Then he leaned in to begin a
slow and thorough inspection of the scaring with his lips and tongue.
"Poor girl, it must have hurt."
A delicious warmth spread through Saibra's body, starting at the pit
of her stomach and working its way out in slow spirals. "It did, but
it is worth it now." Her lips tugged up into a smile.
He rose back up behind her with a burning look and removed his own
trousers and sitting beside her took her hand to trace the scars on
his thigh.
Saibra looked down at the scars that ran along the man's powerful
thighs, and traced the imprinted lines with her fingers. Bowing her
head she kissed the marred flesh, her tongue following the same trail
that her fingers had had drawn, "Must have hurt." She said, rising and
putting one leg over R'enh so that she was straddling his waist.
"Indeed," he said with a twinkle and a lopsided grin. "Mnoranth was
quick to get us /between/ and back to the healers." his hands rose up
the silky skin of her back and pulled her closer for a gentle assault
on her neck.
"Remind me to thank him later then." Saibra breathed, pulling away
from R'enh's touch long enough to kneel between his knees....
