Saibra

Cyradis had sent out a call to both Meledei and Saibra via Panitath
and expected both riders in her office shortly. Of all the people in
the Weyr, other than K'deren, her news concerned them the most. She
certainly hadn't intended for this to happen but that was all water
under the bridge at this point.

She picked up her cup and waited for them to arrive.

Saibra, who was located rather close to Cyradis, gladly pushed her
papers aside, grabbed her still hot cup of klah, and made her way over
to the Senior Weyrwoman's office, "Good morning, lady." She gave the
woman one of her rare smiles as she took a seat at the table and
waited for Meledei.

"Good morning," Cyradis replied cheerily. "How are things going? All unpacked?"

Saibra didn't have a chance to reply before the door open and a
younger rider entered. Meledei's smile was quick to alight upon her
face as she closed the door behind her. "You wanted to see me,
Weyrwoman?" That smile was offered to the second as well, though it
had been Cyradis who had sent the message.

"I did," Cyradis smiled at their youngest goldrider. "Help yourself
if you'd like some Klah or Tea." Her sideboard was always freshly
stocked thanks to Qorri's efficiency. She didn't think she could ask
for a better Headwoman, even if their start had been a little rocky,
she was quite on top of things. "So?" she prompted Saibra.

"Yes, everything is finally unpacked. I even received some help from a
bronzerider," she winked, waving a hand to Meledei in greeting,
"imagine that." Saibra straightened a bit in her chair as she took a
gulp of her klah.

"Yeah," Cyradis chuckled along with Saibra. "Imagine that. And which
gallant bronzrider came to your aid?"

"R'enh." Saibra answered. She liked the bronzerider, he was someone
she could see herself becoming friends with, and, not someone that she
would mind waking up to after a mating flight. That was saying a lot
in Saibra's book.

Meledei had remained silent as the Weyrwoman gently interrogated their
newest goldrider. There was no surprise when she mentioned the
bronzerider's name, though Meledei couldn't help but wonder if R'enh
would have bothered to help her had she moved weyrs. Probably not.
It seemed she was losing a lot of friends lately.

Cyradis smiled and lifted her chin in acknowledgement. She liked R'enh
though she didn't know him that well. "Well," she said with a flair of
her eyes. "I'm thinking you'd probably like to know why I called you
here." Placing her hands flat on the desk for a moment she looked at
them and then smiled. "I'm pregnant."

Immediately Saibra reacted to the news with a smile, "Congratulations,
Cyradis! How far along are you?" Being a mother herself, it was easy
to remember the excitement of finding out that you were with child. Of
course, Saidrene had been a bit of a surprise, but Kaibren had been
planned and well anticipated.

"Oh!" Meledei's eyes lit up and a smile brightened her features.
"Congratulations Cyradis, what happy news!"

"Thanks," she smiled at both of them. "I usually have it fairly easy
in the baby department compared to some." Maybe that was why she had
so many. She never had any problems with morning sickness or some of
the other complications that could plague so many women. "Of course it
means I won't be able to lead the wing for the next month or so.

"Saibra, how comfortable are you with the formations at this point?"
She knew it was awfully soon for their new 'second to have learned
everything flawlessly. Meledei on the other hand had turns of practice
under her belt even if Elleth was only days off the sands. If neither
of them felt ready she'd have to ask N'vanik for a temporary
Wingleader with the experience to handle the job. What she wouldn't
give for a good solid third.

Fortunately the formations had come easily to Saibra and Chioneth who
and been flying Thread ever since it had started falling. "I think
Chioneth and I have them down so there shouldn't be a problem and
Meledei will be there as my second." She glanced at the younger
goldrider.

Her second? Meledei blinked over at Saibra. Even Cyradis hadn't
seemed ready to allow her to take on_that_ much responsibility. Was

she serious? Granted, it would be a temporary position, but it was
still a 'step up', so to speak. Even as Saibra glanced at her,
Meledei's gaze turned to study Cyradis.

Cyradis had resolved to let Saibra handle Meledei and if she thought
the young woman able to fill that role temporarily, she wasn't going
to show any of her own doubt. That would be the surest way to
undermine their confidence. So she smiled serenely back at Meledei,
"congratulations. I know you'll do great," she nodded.

Saibra felt that this was a good opportunity for Meledei to prove
herself, and she hoped that she took advantage of that, "Was there any
other business, Weyrwoman?"

"No," she smiled. "We can tell the rest of the wing tomorrow at the
meeting. Then you can take the morning drills. Sound good?"

The Weyrwoman's Second nodded, "It's a plan."
