N'vanik

N'vanik
L'cor

L'cor

L'cor smiled as he walked out of the dining hall and started up the
steps toward the Weyrleader's office. **Please ask Loseth's if his has
a moment to see me** the young bronzerider asked.

}:Mine was just about to leave, but he says he has time,:{ Loseth told
the younger bronze.

L'cor poured on the speed not wanting to hold the Weyrleader up so he
was a little out of breath when he finally reached N'vanik's office.
"Sorry Sir," he said as he came through the door. "Thanks for seeing
me."

"Sure. What do you need?" N'vanik took a seat and gestured to the
chair on the other side of the desk.

L'cor took the seat across from the Weyrleader. "Sir I..." he suddenly
felt a little silly for making the request and tried to think how best
to put it. "Tomorrow is my fathers birthingday and I know there is
Fall but I was hoping to visit him the day after as a surprise."

N'vanik tried to remember where L'cor was in his training. "You aren't
cleared to /between/ on your own yet, are you?" No, which had to be
why he was bringing it up. "Did you speak to Sh'del or D'naz yet?"

L'cor slumped a little. "No sir. They've been unavailable but I did
speak to one of the other assistants and he said I could go if I was
accompanied by an experienced pair."

"Is the assistant willing to take you?"

"He seemed to want me to find someone else who might be willing. But I
have no idea who to ask."

"I'm sure someone would be willing to take you to Emerald Falls. I'll
check the duty roster and see if someone is already heading there for
messages or transport." N'vanik started digging around in his hides.

L'cor nodded. "Thank you sir." There hadn't been time for more than
just a few words with his father at the recent hatching and maybe,
just maybe he could get his attention a little longer if he actually
gave him a dragon ride. Tonuth was big and still growing and L'cor
wanted to show him off to the Lord Holder who's approval had always
seemed such a distant dream.

"So you remembered his birthingday," N'vanik said with an amused noise
as he pulled out the current roster. "Shards, I hardly remember my
own."

"It was rather a big deal around our house when I was growing up."
L'cor shifted in his chair thinking about the way his mother still
seemed to love the Lord Holder in spite of all the turns of
separation.

N'vanik looked up from the hide. "I don't know if he shows it, but he
_does_ care for you."

"Yes sir," he acknowledged. "I know." He'd always known but that
didn't change the fact that his father hadn't acknowledged him and had
in fact hidden them away. He'd grown up knowing that his father
probably never would have but for the excitement of the hatching. He
smiled at the Weyrleader. He had a solid future now. One that could
eventually include a leadership position that would put him on an even
footing with his father and half-brother despite the accident of his
birth.

"Good." At least L'cor didn't seem to carry around bitterness the way
Cosani had. The way she still might. N'vanik looked back down. "Hm.
Oria is on messenger duty that day. I'm sure she wouldn't mind
escorting you."

"Oria?" He couldn't help the lilt in his voice. "Er... I'll be happy
to ask her if I can tag along that day."

"Good. Do you need anything else? Did you get him a gift?"

"I did sir," he smiled. "Its only a belt buckle from the smith, but I
had it made of bronze."

N'vanik smiled. "I'm sure he'll love it, and he'll be glad to see
you." It had to be a relief for both of them that the relationship was
public now.

"Thank you sir," L'cor nodded. He felt he'd taken up enough of the
Weyrleaders time. "I'll go find Oria and see if I can tag along with
her that day."
