Description: R'enh comes over to offer his aid to the Weyr's newest goldrider.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 8 of Turn 7
Like any bronze rider worth his salt R'enh knew it was his duty to
greet the new gold rider. Although he really wasn't in the mood.
It had been quite a while since he'd even tried to talk to Meledei and
he knew she was involved with that young rider who'd won her flight.
So he didn't want to intrude and make it seem like he was butting in.
In a way he was happy for her even though his own friendship, and it
had truly been a friendship, had fizzled.
Anyway, he took himself up to Saibra's Weyr just to see if they needed
any help getting settled. Though he rather doubted she would. He
imagined everyone had been offering. That was just the way things went
when a new gold arrived.
He knocked on the doorframe "Hello?"
"Come in!" Saibra called as she took a break from tugging the trunk
full of Saidrene's clothes. A drudge had brought it in for her, of
course, but no sooner had the man left than Saibra had decided that
the trunk needed to be moved across the room.
Seeing her tugging at the trunk he moved forward. "Can I help you with
that," he smiled.
Saibra straightened and blew a strand of hair out of her face as she
studied the man, "A chivalrous bronzerider appears?" She winked as she
stepped aside and motioned to the trunk, "Have at it."
"It always pays to be chivalrous," he winked back. "Where do you want
it," he asked as he picked it up.
The woman had to admit that she would gladly accept such help at any
time if all of the bronzeriders at Dolphin Cove proved to be as good
looking as R'enh. She was curious to see if any other bronzeriders
came out to help the new goldrider.
"Right over here." She instructed as she walked over to the other side
of the room.
"Sure," he said and carried it over to where she specified. A smith's
muscles were capable of doing much more than washing his dragon and
tossing sacks of firestone. After he set it down he extended his hand
with another lopsided smile. "I'm R'enh, by the way. N'vanik's
Wingsecond." Being the Weyrleader's Wingsecond had other duties beyond
running the wing as N'vanik's recent threadscoring had demonstrated.
He was the defacto Weyrleader should something happen that made it
impossible for N'vanik to perform his duties. "I hope you like it
here."
Saibra's blue eyes studied the man's face as she slipped her smaller
hand into his, "It is nice to meet you R'enh. I can definitely say
that I am enjoying Dolphin Cove," her lips quirked upwards a bit, "the
view is _much_ better here."
}:Are you flirting?:{ Chioneth asked drily, the amusement in her
thoughts nearly overwhelming.
**Have you looked at his bronze?** Saibra asked.
Chioneth swung her head around and found the dragon in question,
}:Point taken.:{
Mnoranth, unlike his rider, was very ambitious and had caught gold
more than once. He had been watching for their new beauty to turn her
eyes on him and when she did he was ready with a warm greeting and
praise for her shining hide. Of course he invited her to sun on the
heights.
R'enh couldn't help but chuckle at his bronze's attitude, but he bowed
over the offered hand then met her smile with a sparkle in his eye.
"The view has improved quite recently," he quipped.
"Well," Saibra glanced around her weyr, "I think that's all of the
major stuff for now. Care to join me for something to eat? It would be
a shame if the new girl had to eat by herself."
"I'd very much enjoy that," he said. "It would never do for you to eat
alone," he agreed with a smile. R'enh was finding himself quite happy
he'd decided to do his duty and meet Saibra. She seemed friendly and
nice in addition to being quite attractive. He held out his arm for
her to take if she'd like while his lifemate reached out to nuzzle a
golden neck.
Chioneth moved closer to the bronze, accepting his neckrub. It would
be nice to get to know the bronzes here, Chioneth decided. Saibra was
glad that R'enh agreed to go with her, she really did not want to have
to face a cavern full of new people by herself just yet. It would help
having R'enh by her side to help with introductions should any be
necessary.
"So do you have family here R'enh?" She asked as they walked.
"I do," he smiled. "I have a son, Zorenh. He's twelve and still
deciding what he wants to do. How about you? How old are your kids?"
"My daughter is fifteen," Saibra shook her head a little at that, she
still couldn't believe that her daughter had grown up so quickly, "and
my son is ten. I imagine Saidrene will try Standing here at some
point, she's very independent and headstrong."
}:Like her mother.:{ Chioneth pointed out with amusement and affection
for her lifemate's child.
**Yes, like her mother.** Saibra agreed.
Since no one in the Weyr got a 'free ride' and had to contribute that
meant the young woman was likely a crafter of some sort or worked in
the lower caverns. "So, does she have a craft?"
"She took up dragonhealing." Saibra was proud to say. She hoped that
her daughter would impress and be able to continue in the craft. As
they arrived at the dining cavern, Saibra could feel curious eyes on
her causing the goldrider knots on her shoulder felt ten times
heavier.
"Over here," he said in her ear and guided her to a semi-private table
in an alcove. It was one that he used now and then when he wanted a
little privacy. "I'll be right back," he said and proceeded to get
them a tray of various items from the tables.
Saibra studied the dining cavern with interest while R'enh collected
their food. The bronzerider was certainly agreeable company and she
was more than pleased that the man and his dragon would be likely
contenders for Chioneth once she flew.
He threw a crooked smile at her as he came back with their plates. "I
brought you a little of everything." He slid into the seat as he put
them down on the table, then beckoned the drudge toward them. "What
would you like to drink?"
"Klah is fine." Saibra answered as she looked down at the appetizing
plate of food that the bronzerider had brought back. Fortunately, the
goldrider had never been a picky eater and everything that R'enh had
brought appealed to her. Once the drudge had delivered their drinks,
Saibra took a grateful sip. She had not realized how tired she had
become as a result of the moving and unpacking, but now she was
loathed to go back to her weyr and return to the rubble.
As they ate he could see the weariness settling around her like a
blanket. He'd felt that way more than once in his live and could
sympathize. "You look tired," he looked her in the eye with genuine
concern. "Maybe you can get some rest. I'm sure Qorri would provide
help for you in the morning."
"Rest would be good, but I prefer to do the unpacking myself." She was
picky like that. There was a part inside of Saibra that could not
stand the thought of someone else putting her things away in places
where she would not know to find them. Even if she as there directing
them. No, no, she would just do it herself.
R'enh was a rather tactile person and much as he wanted to reach out
and touch her and maybe rub her neck he knew their acquaintance was
still far too new. Though she was quite lovely and tempting and if she
kept smiling that way it was going to break his concentration. It
wasn't as if he'd just won her flight... yet. So he just smiled.
"Just make sure you get enough sleep and don't try and do it all
tonight." Blue eyes sparkled at blue eyes as he added, "And if you
need any help just have Chioneth bespeak Mnoranth. I'll be happy to
return."
Saibra winked, "I will keep that in mind bronzerider."
