L'cor

L'cor

"L'cor! Hi, how have you been? I haven't seen you much lately,"
Ciendra greeted, when she spotted the young bronzerider (and her
secret hero) in the dining room. She was refilling jars and cleaning
up dishes. The months in the Weyr had done good to her and she was
more social and less shy now.

He hardly recognized Ciendra, she'd grown so strong and healthy
looking since she'd come to the Weyr. "Good to see you," he smiled at
the girl. "How are you liking it here," he asked though he figured he
knew the answer.

"I'm liking it. Candidate lessons are interesting and I really like
the kitchen work. Qorri is so nice," Ciendra replied. "How's Tonuth?
Grown to a big bronze?"

"Yes," he grinned. He knew it was silly but he got quite enthused when
he talked about his lifemate. "He's so smart you wouldn't believe it.
He picks up the lessons so fast he's correcting the blues and greens
around him." L'cor shook his head. "You should come see him some
time."

"I would love to. Maybe you want a help washing him?" Ciendra's
question turned shy.

"Sure," he chuckled. "I'm sure he'd like to meet you."

"Good. I've done some dragon washing as a part of my candidate
training," Ciendra said.

"Nice," he said. "Then you'll be a real help." He could see she really
wanted to help so he wasn't going to discourage that. Maybe this move
had been as good a thing for her as it had been for him. "How about
tomorrow after lunch?"

Ciendre mentally viewed her schedule. "Yes, I got two candlemarks free then."

L'cor's brows came together. "Well I don't want to take your free time
Ciendra. I'm sure theres something else you'd rather be doing that
washing a rather large bronze weyrling."

"No, no, I don't have anything else to do!" Ciendra quickly said.
"Besides, I like washing dragons. Maybe one day I'll have my own to
wash and oil."

"Well then," L'cor smiled at the girl. "Then I would love to have your
help." He put a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sure you'll find your
lifemate here too Ciendra. I can't begin to describe how wonderful it
is."

"I hope so," Ciendra said. "I'm not going to back to aunt Dramile,"
her nose wrinkled with distain.

"I should hope not!" He nodded is agreement. "You know you can study a
craft here too don't you Ciendra?"

"Yes, but I like kitchen work. Qorri doesn't make me work overtime,
like aunt Dramile did. If I don't Impress, maybe I'll be the cook one
day," Ciendra replied and smiled prettily.

"Well, that sounds fine Ciendra," L'cor smiled. He couldn't ever
remember Ciendra smiling back at Green Valley. It was wonderful to see
the girl so happy after just a hard life. "I'm sure you'll Impress."

"Well, i'm only fourteen, so I have the time to wait," she replied.

"Yes you do," L'cor agreed. "No need to rush. You have until you're
twenty so that's lots of time. I'm sure yours will find you."

Ciendra nodded. Balancing her tray, she glanced around. "I better get
back to work. See you tomorrow then," she said.

L'cor smiled as he watched her go. Now there was a flower that had
blossomed by coming to the Weyr. He was glad to see it.
