"I think Rhosyn might be pregnant." Briata mused as she gazed down at
their son. Brigel was asleep, happy with his position in his mother's
arms and at her breast. Briata herself had settled down on the sofa
and curled her legs beneath her, using the armrest to prop her up.

Y'gel's eyebrows snapped together and he lowered the hide he'd been
reading. "Really?"

Briata nodded and lifted her gaze away from her child to her Weyrmate.
"She came to see me today. Asked me to make some modifications to her
clothes. She wanted me to let them out."

"Oh did she now," he grinned. "In all the right places I'd guess. And
did she say anything as to why?"

"She indicated that it was because she was grounded and not as
active." Briata, of course, had her own thoughts about the true
cause. "I asked her when she last had her flow."

Y'gel chuckled. Briata was nothing if not smart. He could only imagine
what it would have been like when Rhosyn realized she was outted. "And
what did she say?"

"I had taken her hands and she pulled away then looked at me like I
was insane." Briata shook her head. "I had to come out and
specifically suggest that she might be pregnant."

"Faranth," he swore under his breath and did a quick mental
calculation that told him he couldn't possibly be the father, It had
been far too long since he'd shared anything with Rhosyn. "How did she
take it?"

"She laughed it off and insisted that it was just because she wasn't
getting as much exercise." Briata shook her head. "I think she just
doesn't want to believe that she might be pregnant."

Y'gel shook his head. "I swear, that woman is in denial of anything
that isn't her idea." He raised an eyebrow. "I wonder who the father
is."

"I don't know." To be honest, Briata wasn't sure if Rhosyn would
know. Things were different in the Weyr. She'd found that out first
hand. "I just hope..."

He waited a moment for her to finish the sentence, but when she didn't
he gently nudged her. "You hope what sweetheart."

"That if she truly is pregnant, she'll keep the baby." Sadness made
her lovely features fall. "There are so many here who don't...they
get rid of the children like it's nothing."

It was hard to say with Rhosyn. "I don't know what to tell you. I wish
I knew but I know what you mean. The Weyr can be a difficult place
despite the fact that people have much more freedom here than they do
in the Hold."

"Yes it can." Briata's baby had been unexpected, but the idea that
she would kill her child in her womb had never crossed her mind, not
even once. "Well, I suppose I should put this little one down." He
was still fast asleep. "Perhaps we'll have some time to play before
we retire?" She cast a meaningful glance at the bronzerider as she
rose.

A warm smile spread across his face in response. "Ah sweetheart, you
hear my thoughts almost as clearly as you hear Aughashyth." He put his
work into a pile and watched her curves as she walked away. He was
indeed a very lucky man."
