D'hol

They were discussing Wing matters, and after a few important things
had been covered, N'vanik asked, "So, how would you like another
brownrider?"

Leaning back in his seat, D'hol arched his brow. "Are we getting a
transfer in?"

"No. Thinking of moving one of mine over to your Wing."

At that, D'hol paused and took a drink of the klah that
had been offered to him at the beginning of the meeting.
"I can always use a good brown rider." He met N'vanik's eyes. "Unless
you're wanting to pawn off a trouble maker
on me."

N'vanik shook his head. "Not a trouble maker." **Unless he gets
between me and Rhosyn.** "He's a solid, dependable wingrider."

"Then why the transfer, if I might ask? You need solid riders just
as much as I do."

If this was R'enh, N'vanik would have no problem telling him the
truth. But D'hol was definitely not R'enh. "I think he'd be a better
fit in your Wing, and it balances things out a bit. I have a couple
more riders than you." Wing size fluctuated all the time: injured
riders going out, healed riders coming back. Deaths, graduated
weyrlings, transfers.

D'hol looked at N'vanik for a long moment, weighing the words
of the younger man. There was a feeling that he wasn't getting the
entire story, but it could wait. "Hmm.. Then transfer him.
I can use him."

"Done. He can report to you tomorrow." N'vanik knew he wasn't being
rational, but he wanted Z'an out of his Wing as soon as possible.

Now he knew something was going on. D'hol raised a brow. "What's the
rush?" His eyes narrowed. "I'm not stupid,
N'vanik. What's really going on here?"

"It's a personal matter. It has nothing to do with his performance, so
you don't need to be concerned." N'vanik kept his tone as even as
possible.

Looking straight at N'vanik's face, rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"So this isn't about Z'an and Rhosyn is it?" He had seen the pair
at the hatching, dancing together and it was a bit too coincidental
for it not to be a factor. " I have eyes, N'vanik."

"Well I'm glad you do, since it'd be hard to fly 'Fall without them."
D'hol was obviously trying to get N'vanik to admit something stupid,
but he wasn't going to play that game. "It's a personal issue, and
it's complicated, and that's all I'm going to tell you."

One lip corner curled up. So it was about Rhosyn. He silently
wondered just how tightly a hold the yammering pup had on they
Weyrleader. Apparently a great deal more than he realized.
Interesting. "As you like. I'll be grateful to have him. He seems
a most jovial person, but a good rider."

"Good." At least D'hol was capable of dropping the subject. "Do you
have anything else to discuss?"

D'hol snorted softly. "No wing business, no."

"Alright then. See you later." N'vanik was glad he wouldn't have to
deal with Z'an anymore. Sharding brownrider.
