Description: Double conversations
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 19 of Turn 6
L'cor ran ahead of Tonuth who was joyfully chasing his rider across
the Weyrbowl toward the lake. Of course the young bronze was still a
bit awkward but this chase was one they did each day and ended with
play in the water which both of them enjoyed. They both ended up dusty
before they reached the water but in they went.
}:One of my hatchlings is here.:{ Loseth sent an image of the bronze
and his rider.
Ah, the surprise son of the Lord Holder. N'vanik stepped around the
bulk of his dragon to see the pair for himself. "Hello, L'cor."
"Sir," said the young man as he emerged from the water. How had he not
seen Loseth there on the beach? "Sorry we were just playing." Tonuth
still flailed and splashed in the water. **Come on out... it's your
sire.**
"Don't be sorry. It's good to play with your dragon, especially when
he's young."
Loseth shifted to get a better view of the little one. }:Hello Tonuth.
One day you will be big like me.:{
Tonuth had obeyed his rider and splashed out of the watter but he
skidded to a halt, eyes slowly whirling as they went up and up. }:I
will?:{ he sounded incredulous.
L'cor laughed. "He is a lot of fun." When he wasn't making messes. It
was very hard to believe the giant bronze had ever been as small as
his own little guy.
"How's your training going so far?" N'vanik asked.
}:Yes. You'll grow and grow and then you'll be almost as big as me.:{
Loseth was convinced he was the biggest bronze on Pern and no other
would outgrow him.
}:You're very big:{ the little dragonet was in awe of the huge bronze.
"It's going well so far. Mostly classes on how to care for him and
what to look out for. Anatomy, that sort of thing." It was all stuff
he'd have never even thought about in his prior occupation. But that
life he'd had planned was all changed now and for the better.
"It's very busy just feeding this bottomless pit." He looked at Tonuth
with affection where he seemed to be transfixed by the Weyrleader's
lifemate.
N'vanik laughed. "I remember that phase." He studied the young man for
a moment. "Why did you accept the Search?"
Loseth lowered his head to get closer to Tonuth. }:Yes. Even for a
bronze, I am large. And very smart, too.:{
**Stop gloating,** N'vanik scolded.
}:He's admiring me.:{
Tonuth stepped closer, nose twitching and eyes whirling. }:Will I be
very smart?:{
L'cor bit his lips to keep from laughing at the sight of his little
bronze almost touching noses with Loseth whose head was bigger than he
was. But he turned to the Weyrleader and his eyes were serious when he
answered.
"I wanted to do something with my life that would make a difference."
N'vanik smiled. "Ah, a very good reason." Much better than his own
reasons for accepting Search all those turns ago. "What did you do
before that?"
}:I think you will. I sired you, so you should be smart too,:{ Loseth said.
If N'vanik wasn't trying to have a serious conversation, he would have
rolled his eyes.
Tonuth tilted his head this way and than then asked. }:What's a sire?:{
L'cor couldn't help the bubble of laughter than escaped but he smiled
at N'vanik and told him. "I was an UnderSteward at Green Valley Hold."
"Shards, they're distracting," N'vanik chuckled. "Was that something
you wanted to do, or just settled on?"
Loseth considered for a moment. Tonuth was very young and would not
understand everything. }:To make dragons there must be a queen and a
sire. Panitath and I made you.:{
L'cor smiled his agreement. "Would it seem funny if I said I was just
following in my fathers footsteps?" It was really true though, he knew
his father had extended his rather considerable influence to get him
the position in the first place. Corowal himself had started as a
Steward. Well that and he was related to the then Lord Holder.
}:Oh,:{ his eyes whirled with wonder. Of course he didn't completely
understand what he'd been told but he really liked his sire. }:Want to
play in the water?:{
Loseth was willing to indulge his little hatchling. }:Yes.:{ He lifted
a forearm and flicked a spray of water at Tonuth.
"Well, I'm glad you chose to come here. That little guy was meant for
you." N'vanik nodded toward the tiny bronze.
"Thank you sir," he smiled. Then his gaze turned to the little bronze
pain in his behind. "I think so too."
In the meantime Tonuth froliced in the spray and tried his best to
splash the big bronze but only succeeded in soaking one giant foot.
}:I got you:{
}:You did,:{ Loseth said with warm amusement. His return splash was
bigger, but he was careful not to swamp the hatchling.
N'vanik laughed. "You big goof."
If a dragonet could squeal like a human child Tonuth would have done
it as he tried to splash Loseth again. Just the simple happy thoughts
were enough to make L'cor grin at the Weyrleader and shake his head.
}:Am I a big goof too:{ he inquired. **No you're a little goof but
someday you'll be big.**
