Description: The Weyrleaders share a dance and chat
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 6
Cyradis wasn't precisely alone. There was always someone who had
something to tell or ask who needed some of her time. At hatching
feasts she tended to paste a smile on her face even though she kind of
glazed over inside and gave stock answers to questions. One holder
decided it was time to bend her ear with the gossip of how Lord
Corowal's son could have possible impressed so lofty a color as bronze
and she was wondering how she could possibly get out of this
conversation, when a familiar face approached and she smiled.
"Weyrleader," she extended her hand to G'nir.
"Weyrwoman Cyradis," G'nir replied, taking a hand and giving her a bow.
"How nice to see you," she smiled. "I'm glad you came," she took his
arm as they stepped closer to the dance floor.
"Who could resist a Hatching? Besides it was your first here," G'nir
replied, twirling her to a proper dancing position.
She flowed easily into his arms. She'd always enjoyed dancing with the
bronzerider. He had an elegant way about him. Probably due to his
upbringing. "It was an exciting one I think."
"Yes, quite a little surprise from that Lord Holder, was it?" G'nir
replied. He was Lord Holder's son himself, but his father would have
never let out an outburst like that. In a way, he envied that young
bronzerider. His father never expressed emotions.
"Yes," she smiled. "Though it doubt that man does much without a plan.
He did seem genuinely pleased with the kid." She looked up at him.
"But how are you?"
"Just fine," G'nir replied. "Of course Onnyth's last Flight gives us
some concern," he told her.
"Yes," her face showed her concern. "Was the brown _very_ young?"
"Yes, only a Turn old," G'nir replied.
"Oh my," she breathed. She couldn't imagine how she'd feel if
something similar happened with Meledei and Elleth. That was a rather
harsh setback in their production. There was really nothing to be done
but wait and see how badly the clutch size was reduced. "If we can
help, I'm sure you'll let us know.
"In what? Borrow us few more eggs?" G'nir asked with sarcastic snort.
"But thank you of the offer. Your kindess won't be forgotten," he
added with his best diplomatic manner. He also meant it. Good
inter-Weyr relationships were important to him.
"Of course," she grinned and smacked his arm. "Buck up G'nir. You have
a lovely Weyrwoman and I'm sure Nirreth can fly Genith high enough to
make up some of the shortfall."
"I'm sure he will," G'nir gave her a grin back. Then he swept her to a
complicated set of dance moves that make talking impossible.
She'd forgotten what a good dancer the bronzerider was and ended up
breathless by the time the dance was done.
"Oh my," was about all she could gasp out when they'd finished.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it," G'nir replied smugly.
She'd never let him know it because he'd become insufferable but
Cyradis had always enjoyed G'nir's company. It wouldn't do to let his
head get big over the whole thing. Instead she just grinned and
thanked him for the dance. Then she gladly welcomed K'deren's arrival
for the next dance as he came to claim her.
