Briata

Briata carefully placed her son in the cradle by the bed she now
shared with Y'gel. He wasn't often in it, for he was usually in bed
with her, but she used it from time to time. She stood over him and
watched the baby. Even after a bad day with lots of fussiness, it all
seemed a distant memory once he was asleep.

Y'gel came in from the other room as quietly as he could. Freshly
bathed he'd gotten his hair mostly dried before he'd come out of their
bathing chamber. It was rather amazing how he already thought of his
weyr as 'theirs'. He looked down at their little son. "Did you two
have a hard day?"

"He was fussy today." It was hard to believe with the way he looked
so peaceful and innocent while sleeping. She smiled and gently
smoothed his hair. Briata couldn't help it, there was just something
about babies' heads. "Not sure why, but we got through it."

He smiled and put his arm around her. "You're a good mother Briata."
Then he kissed the top of her head and moved around to the other side
of the bed. "So, I had an idea," he said as he pulled the covers back.

"You did?" Briata slipped out of her robe and lay it over the back of
the rocking chair before she slid into bed. "What was your idea?"

"Well," he said as he sat on the bed and pulled off his slippers. Then
he turned and watched her. "How would you like a wedding Bri?"

Briata started, then sat up a little straighter. "A wedding?"

"Yes," he said with a smile. "You know I can't marry you in the hold
sense. But when two people weyrmate they can have a ceremony with a
Harper present and make promises in front of their friends. Like a
wedding. Would you like that?"

It wouldn't be exactly like a wedding, but the closest one would get
in the Weyr. "Really?" She ran her fingers through her hair then
twisted strands together as she plaited it for the night. "It sounds
like a lovely idea." B'lamick hadn't suggested anything like that and
honestly, Briata didn't think such a thing was done. "Is that
common?"

He was honest enough to shake his head slightly. "No, not really."

Briata canted her head to the side, then reached up to caress the side
of Y'gel's face. "What do you want?"

He smiled at her. "I'm really a one woman sort of man," he said after
a moment. "I'd be happy to tell everyone in the Weyr that fact... And
anyone else you wanted to invite."

"A ceremony sounds like a lovely idea." And it would be more of a
wedding than even the 'official' one she'd had ever had been.

"Alright then," he said and kissed her hair. "You start planning what
you'd like to do and I'll get hold of a Harper to perform the
ceremony. Rhosyn will probably want to throw a big party after."

Briata scooted over and reached up to place a gentle hand on the side
of Y'gel's cheek. "You don't have to do this, you know that right?"

"But I want to," he grinned, "Are you trying to talk me out of it woman?"

"No, but I don't want you to do something just because you think I
would like it."

"Trust me," he smiled. "I like the effect I get when I do something
you like." His grin turned just a little evil as his hand rose up her
thigh. "like this?"

Briata's eyes narrowed and her lips curled up in a smile. "Yes." She
replied, her voice soft, "I like it very much."
