N'vanik

N'vanik

N'vanik met all the new weyrlings, which put him in a much better
mood, but he didn't forget about Corowal. As soon as he could, he
slipped through the crowd to find the Lord Holder. "Lord Corowal, I'd
like to talk to you." Yelling, or even arguing, wouldn't be good so he
tried to keep control of his emotions.

"Weyrleader, I'm always at your service," Corowal replied, minding his
manners. Last thing he wanted was some sort of feud between them.

He tried to think of a nice way to say it. "Did you only acknowledge
your son because he Impressed?"

"That wasn't what you can call a considered action, but a spur of a
moment outburst. As for acknowledging him, does paying support for his
upbringing count? ," Corowal replied, studying the weyrleader, this
seemed to be sensitive subject to him.

"Better than nothing," N'vanik admitted. "But is he only good enough
for you now that he's a bronzerider?"

"He would be good enough even if he were a greenrider," Corowal replied
softly.

N'vanik eyed the man. "Was it only politics that kept you out of his
life?" That would still be a sharding stupid reason, but those of the
Blood lived in a different world.

"Yes," Corowal sighed. "Men like me can't marry for love. Dinalee, she
has spirit, she's smart and she's good looking. What a wonderful Lady
she would make! Unfortunately, she worked in a Tavern," Corowal
continued, it was obvious from his tone that he still had warm
feelings for L'cor's mother.

"Does he know you care about his mother? About him?" N'vanik's tone
wasn't harsh anymore.

"I don't know," Corowal admitted. "I've tried to express it, but after
I became Lord Holder, I had less time for them. It was easier when I
was still a Steward," Corowal answered with honesty.

"Then tell L'cor, and tell his mother, that you care about them. He's
old enough to understand the situation, but it's important for him to
know how you really feel." N'vanik shifted his feet. "I didn't know
about my daughter until she showed up looking for me. I wish I
would've known sooner. I could've spared her so much pain." He'd made
a tentative peace with her mother, but he was still angry she hadn't
told him about Cosani.

Corowal nodded at N'vanik's advice, although he did feel bit silly,
being advice by man so much younger than he.
"Been there, know how that feels like," he commented when the
Weyrleader told about his daughter. He was thinking of Erilite, she
had been completely surprise. If only he had known Valema was
pregnant, he would have broken her out and taken with him.

"If you have any other illegitimate children running around, you might
want to send them here." N'vanik smiled to show he meant no offense.
"Apparently they're dragonrider material."

"Well, there shouldn't be more, at least I don't know about them. That
doesn't guarantee I won't receive further suprises. L'cor is only one
I was aware of," Corowal replied with grin. "I wanted be dragonrider
when I was child, or a pirate," he continued.

N'vanik snorted. "Not a Lord Holder?"

"That came later," Corowal laughed.

"I'm trying to picture you as a pirate. It's about as far from Lord
Holder as you can get." But then, Corowal hadn't been an heir.

"Well, I have very romantic idea of piracy back then. All
swashbuckling and making ladies swoon. I found out later that you can
make the ladies swoon without being pirate," Corowal gave the
Weyrleader an impish grin. So, he was womanizer and would always been.

"I found a bronze dragon helps a lot in that respect, but I think I'd
do fine without one." He grinned back.

"Thank's," Corowal replied.
