Coran sighed as he gently rubbed the worn metal ring between his fingers. His wife's wedding ring. Normally it stayed locked in a little keep sake box that held a few mementos of his first marriage. Ever since Reven had come to him with the proposition of marrying again he'd been having dreams of Alyei again.
The dreams always started out in the same manner, their wedding day, Alyei laughing and dancing, and it always ended with her death. Was it time to move on? Could he?
He wasn't sure that he had the capacity or space in his heart to love another woman. **I could meet her, at the least.** He supposed, if nothing else, from a healer's standpoint, he was curious to meet Relea and see her sign language for himself.
Putting Alyei's ring back in the keepsake box, he locked it away and set it back on the mantle.

Reven was pleased when Coran came to him, although he understood his brother's hesitations about marrying again, "Don't worry, Coran, you're just meeting her. It's not as if anything is set in stone. Come on, let's head to the Dining Hall, we might be able to catch her in there during lunch."
Reven's theory proved true. Relea had just entered the dining hall a moment before the young holder and his brother. She didn't see them at first, far too preoccupied with taming her annoyed stomach. She made her way to the food and picked out various things she felt like eating. There was a nice, hot stew that looked good, a lovely crusty bread among other things.
Once her plate and bowl were settled on her tray, she moved over to take a seat at a table, alone. Thankfully. Leaton's schedule was different from hers now and she was glad for it.
"Oh!" Reven clapped a hand to Coran's shoulder,"We're in luck! She's sitting over there by herself."
The Holder pointed to the lovely blonde. Coran scanned the tables with his eyes until they landed on the woman Reven was pointing at. She was... Beautiful. He had expected a very unfortunate looking woman, why else would there be such a problem finding her a husband? "Let's go."
Reven nudged Coran forward, inwardly gleeful to be pursuing his plan. Arriving at Relea's table, Reven tapped on the table to get her attention and then saluted her in greeting, touching the tips of his fingers to his temple, "Relea."
At the vibration, Relea looked up and her face lit up with her smile at the sight of the holder. She pushed her seat back and stood, then curtsied to him before she returned the silent greeting. Her gaze then shifted over to the other man with her and she repeated the gesture as curiosity crept into her expression.
"Relea, this is my brother Coran." Reven introduced them.
Coran smiled, tipping his head to Relea, "It's a pleasure to meet you." His gaze swept over her and he made note of the slate board hanging on her side.
Beyond her inability to hear, Coran was really having a hard time understanding why she'd had any trouble finding a suitable husband.
"Do you mind if we join you for lunch?" Reven asked.
Relea shook her head, then motioned across from her. All the seats at the small table were empty save for her own. There were two right across from her and one beside her. Her gaze shifted from the holder to the man with him then back again.
While Reven flagged down a drudge to bring him and Coran some of the stew, Coran looked across the table at Relea, "Reven tells me that you use sign language?"
As a healer he knew a little himself but was unsure if it was the same thing that Relea was using.
Relea nodded, then signed in addition stating 'yes, I do'. She smiled, not expecting either of them to understand so she reached for her stylus to write it out.
Reven was lost, it seemed like just a few short hand waves to him, but he looked to his brother as Coran made a few hand gestures back at Relea.
"What did you say?"
"I told her that I speak a little of her language." Coran translated for Reven.
The signs were slightly different, but close enough to what she had learn that she got the gist of what he said. She straightened and began to sign vigorously, her hands almost a blur. It had been so long since she had met someone outside of a family member or someone who had hung around long enough to learn who had any knowledge.
Coran's eyes widened a bit and he laughed as he held up both of his hands, "Whoa, whoa, slow down." He said this out loud and then signed to her, painstakingly, that he wasn't nearly as good as she was and that she would have to teach him.
"I would love to learn more." He signed to her.
Relea nodded, her smile warm. It wasn't often she met someone who was interested and here Reven had brought someone. She had already figured out that this was the man Reven proposed she marry. He seemed nice enough for the very brief moments they had shared thus far, but the fact that he was willing to learn more of her language certainly interested her. Of course, it would be nice if they could get to know each other a little first. She knew that was a luxury most women didn't have but she did hope she would have that option.
The healer side of Coran was curious to know more about Relea and her condition, "Have you always been deaf? Or did something happen to cause it?" He asked, wondering if she'd ever had the opportunity to hear the ringing chords of a harper's gitar, or the subtle song of the wind as it brushed through the trees.
"I had a bad illness when I was a baby." Relea explained via her stylus. She had no memory of hearing anything. She got sad at times that she couldn't, but mostly she was at peace with it. It was just how things were. Nothing could change it so why mope over what couldn't be changed? She could at least see, and she was grateful for that.
Coran nodded, that was the way it was with most of the individuals he had met who were hard of hearing. It was a shame that Relea had never gotten the chance to hear but he found it admirable the way she had learned to compensate on her own. He wasn't sure that he wanted to marry again, or that Relea was the one even if he did, but the woman had sparked his curiosity, and he looked forward to learning more about her.
