}:Nikornath, mine would like to talk to yours,:{ Loseth said.
}:My rider is in his office, he says to come and knock on his door,:{
Nikornath told the visiting bronze. }:You and yours are welcome here.:{
N'vanik arrived shortly and knocked. When he got permission to enter,
he stepped in, still trying to calm himself down. "K'sedel." He gave
the man a nod. "Sorry to bother you, but I'm worried about Rhosyn. No
one will tell me what's wrong with her."
K'sedel gestured towards a seat. "What have they told you?" he asked.
"They said she has a 'physical malady' and can't see anyone." N'vanik
considered the offered chair but paced instead.
"That's true," K'sedel told him. "The healers have it under control though.
She's in a lot of pain, over did it in the sun." He was sure that N'vanik
could figure out the details of the timing.
"Overdid it in the sun?" N'vanik repeated. "Wait, you mean heatstroke?
Or sunscorching?"
"Both," came the simple reply.
N'vanik stared. "_That's_ what all this is about? Why in flaming
shards couldn't she have just told me?" He dropped into the chair with
a growl. Although those conditions could be serious, it happened all
the time at Dolphin Cove and he couldn't understand why Rhosyn and the
healers would hide that from him.
"She won't forgive me for this, but I think she's a little embarrassed by
the circumstances that caused it," or at least that was what K'sedel
thought. The dash into the hot sun wearing next to nothing because her gold
was rising, not something you'd want spread all over.
"_Embarrassed_? She let me worry about the worst because she's
_embarrassed_?" While he was relieved it wasn't something worse, he
wondered why she couldn't be honest with him. Did she think it wasn't
important to tell him the truth? It made him think of Traelyn, the way
she'd withdrawn. She hadn't talked to him, hadn't been honest with
him. All the while she'd been sinking into depression until she
cracked her shell.
"Perhaps you should try asking her about that," suggested K'sedel.
"Yeah, maybe when she stops using healers and her dragon to keep me
from seeing her." He clenched his hand, nails digging into his palm.
Locking him out, just like Traelyn.
"Would you like me to ask her if she'll see you?"
N'vanik considered it, but only for a moment. "No, but thanks. Didn't
mean to cause drama in you Weyr."
"No more than normal for round here," K'sedel replied.
The corner of his mouth turned up. "I suppose that's true. Thanks for
talking with me." N'vanik got to his feet. "I'll let you get back to
work." And N'vanik would get back to his own and try to forget how
angry he was.
"I will try to persuade her to talk to you," K'sedel said as he got to his
own feet and offered a hand to the other Weyrleader. "I don't think she's
being too rational about it."
N'vanik shook his hand. "Don't worry about it. She can talk to me when
she wants to." And he might not be in the mood to listen.
"If you're sure."
"Yeah."
"Then I hope I'll see you again under better circumstances."
N'vanik nodded. "Me, too."
