Description: Cyradis and D'hol reacquaint themselves
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 3 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Meledei, N'vanik
Yumath settled in his new weyr, D'hol left the bronze surveying
his new home from the comfort of his ledge. It was time to go
see an old acquaintance. A slight smile lifted his lips as he
imagined her reaction. It was doubtful that she expected to
see him again.
It wasn't hard to find the Weyrwoman's office. Striding to the
door, he gave a few sharp raps and waited.
Cyradis had been working on updates to several records. Lists of
injuries to be updated along with births and deaths. She was quite
diligent about the work and always had been. Her 'second was all but
useless and Meledei wasn't quite ready to hand off any of this at the
moment. She was coming along but Cyradis didn't want to push her too
fast. She had high hopes for the young goldrider.
She lifted her head at the knock, "D'hol," she said a bit surprised.
"What brings you to Dolphin Cove?"
"Well, is that anyway to greet an 'old friend'?" His words laced with
meaning, D'hol lips lifted in a very slight smile as he stepped into
the office. He looked around her office with interest, taking in her
personal touches before turning to face Cyradis again. "Good to see
you too, Cyradis, or should I say Weyrwoman?" He gave a bow, managing
to mingle respect with a small degree of mocking.
She lifted an eyebrow and almost snorted. Bronzerider arrogance was
evident even in the way he sauntered into her office. She shook off
the surge of distaste and pasted on a false smile. She'd gotten quite
good at it with N'vanik recently. "How nice to see you," she
acknowledged his bow with an inclination of her head. "Care for some
Klah?" She crossed to her cupboard to refill her own cup and paused to
look back at him questioningly.
"Always." He inclined his head, a smile still playing around his mouth.
Without asking, he took a seat across from her desk and folded his
hands over his stomach. "Just dropping by to see you." His smile then
widened. "And tell you that I was transferred here. I'm the Cyclone Wing's
new Wing Leader."
She poured the klah and brought the two cups back to her desk. She
handed one to D'hol and then went back to her chair. Thankfully her
mug was on the table before his announcement. Though shocking to her
system it wasn't a bad thing on every level. Whatever her own personal
feelings, she'd only every heard good thing of his skills as a
Wingleader. "I'm sure N'vanik will be very happy to have you. Have you
had a chance to speak with him yet?"
"I've had my interview." His lips pursed in thought. "Younger than I thought
he'd be, to be honest. A bit raw, but nothing you can't handle, hm?" He
took the cup and gave a brief smile of thanks, though his eyes followed
her movements with interest. "But an interesting man, to be sure. I've
heard he's capable enough. But then again, Weyrleader's come and
go."
"Careful there, D'hol," she said quietly. "Your ambition is showing."
She smiled a little lopsided. "N'vanik doesn't need handling." She
surprised herself at her defense of the Weyrleader. "And I doubt he's
going anywhere."
"No more than it usually does." He took a slow sip of klah and his lips
lifted at her sudden quiet tones. "You never know. After all, Yumath
still thinks fondly of your Panitath." His smile grew a little bit. "But,
there's plenty of time for that. She's not due to rise for a while, isn't
that so?"
"No," Cyradis replied. "She has a clutch on the sands right now."
Cyradis eyes closed and opened in a slow blink. Yes, D'hol and Yumath
had once won one of Panitath's early flights and even then Cyradis had
been uneasy around the man. "How nice," she said. "I don't believe
Panitath remembers Yumath."
"Not surprising. I'm sure it's hard to remember one single bronze out
of so many." He finished his klah. "But they can reaquaint themselves
soon enough." He tilted his head at her, his smile remaining to play
around his mouth. He then stood and placed his cup on her desk.
"It's always such a pleasure to chat with you, Cyradis, but I've got
to introduce myself to my new wing. I'm very sure that you and I will
be working closely together in the future." He inclined his head. "I
look forward to it."
She nodded and watched him go. "Great," she muttered to herself. Just
when things had begun to get comfortable with N'vanik and the pure joy
of her relationship with K'deren. Now this.
She shook her head and went to her sideboard for a special bottle.
Pouring herself a small glass she took it back to her desk. It was
still early, but she needed the drink.
