D'arvn

This time was nothing like the last time.

Unlike that scared child of three months ago, G'wen almost clicked his
heels in glee when Neath woke red eyed and angry, ignoring any
requests for attention in favor of blooding her kills. No more
moodiness, no more mentally undressing every poor rider that happened to walk
in his sight, no more snapping people's heads off. He wasn't even
thinking about what was to happen to him in under a candlemark, he was
just so relieved to be freed of proddiness as he raced down the stairs
to join the glowing green out in the feeding pens.

Halfway to her, he remembered they were in the middle of a bitter
winter. Cursing himself, he flapped his arms to stay warm as he
watched her seize a herdbeast by the neck, killing it instantly. It
wasn't long to go now, he thought as men and dragons began to show up.

P'nal had seen seeing to some injured wingriders so he was in full riding
leathers, which he was thankful for. Jodeth touched down and he climbed
off, walking toward the small little circle. The brown was raring to go. The
rider was trying not to go sliding on the ice as he walked. **Why couldn't
they be inside in the flight rooms, eh?**

Galerith was more than eager to catch Neath again and he and his rider
arrived in time and ready. }: Remember how well we Flight last time?:{
Galerith asked her. He
considered her his mate, at least until this Flights winner was known.

Sh'lua gave G'wen a greeting grin.

Nirreth's energy to chase almost every or at least every second green
that Rose amazed G'nir. He had gold as a mate, wasn't that enough?
Obviously not, as the pair joined the growing ring around Neanth and
G'wen. Seeing who it was this time, G'nir sighed. Well, perhaps she
would choose a blue dragon this time too. There were some Flights he
didn't Nirreth to win.

G'wen caught Sh'lua's grin and smiled back. He was hoping she would
choose him again but she was young, anything could happen. She almost
seemed to pulse as she lifted her head up to snarl at the males.

D'arvn and Falzeth had flown into Dragonsfall to deliver some messages
when he felt his lifemates lust for a rising green. Normally he would
just take Falzeth away but this time. }:Neath rises:{

"Neath?" That meant pretty little G'wen and D'arvn wasn't against that
at all. In fact he directed his lifemate to drop him and he quickly
joined the other riders gathered around Neath's rider. He smiled and
winked at G'wen.

Imalkyth had joined the others gathered around the glowing green even
as K'ale had joined the group around his friend.

Nirreth was both warming up his wing muscles and showing off his gleaming
bronze hide and the strong muscles moving beneath it.

Ornigeth had doubted nothing. Neath would be his, she was already by the
feeding pens when the blue arrived, flexing his wing muscles as though
showing off to the green.

F'neb followed, with something in his attitude, whether it was caution or
anticipation was yet to be seen.

At that same moment Neath paused, still as a stone. Her hide glowed an
intense shade. With a scream in the silent air, she launched herself into
the sky, instinct urging her away from these males as fast as she could go.

The Flight was on!

Galerith followed quickly, his strong blue wings beating the air.
Nirreth wasn't far behind.

Sh'lua snapped into the merge with his blue, his heart full engaged to
catch her.

G'wen never felt the gentle hands of several workers leading him to the
Flight rooms. He was one with his dragon, determined to give these boys a
Flight they would remember!

As Ornigeth followed Neath, F'neb followed G'wen. If you were to ask him
later there would be no recollection of this, his thoughts and vision were
filled with the sights and sounds of the flight. Ornigeth was so focused on
this, this time he would be victorious!

As P'nal followed the greenrider as his brown was following the green,
the brownrider felt things heating up despite the cold weather. When
they reached the flight rooms, he started to strip one piece of
clothing at a time to get the cool air to his warm body. He didn't
think about much else, least of all the other men in the room besides
G'wen just then. The big brownrider made the greenrider look small.

His recent success buoyed Jodeth's confidence and the brown remembered
this green. She had been new before. She was still young, but this was
not her first flight. Flying after her and pulling out all the stops
to close the distance, he was determined to be successful again.

Imalkyth shot into the air after the glowing green followed closely by
Falzeth. K'ale lost himself as he joined with his lifemate.

D'arvn retained enough of himself to stumble after the others as they
were moved toward the flight rooms.

}:You're mine!:{ called Ornigeth to Neath. }:I will catch you,:{ the blue
was almost over confident, convinced that Neath would see him, and only him
as the best choice to spend her flight with.

}: You're mine! :{ Galerith declared, full of confidence. After all
she choose her last time, why not this time too. The blue knew how to
catch them.

Nirreth didn't waste his breath to boasts. He concentrated to stay
after her. Greens were tricky for the larger and less agile bronze.

A rider moved close to G'wen, being overeager. "Watch it!" growled F'neb.
The last thing he needed was someone, or
something to get in the way of his prize.

G'wen could feel the bodies pressing close, too close. He struck out with a
well placed right hook as Neath screamed defiance to the males chasing so
far behind. One little blue was trying to be clever above her and she
dropped down to avoid his antics. Shaking him and two other browns
off her trail, she began to climb high into the sky.

Jodeth might have gotten a bit off course there as she made such a
sharp dive, but the brown was quickly gaining ground again with his
long wing sweeps. He just had to get himself close enough to smell
her. The air was heavier which would likely put more of a strain on
the blues. Experience taught him not to panic. He was not out of this
yet.

D'arvn staggered slightly in reaction to the thrown punch and Falzeth
screamed in frustration as the big green evaded him. He fought to get
back in the race.

Imalkyth swerved out of the way if the tangled browns and rose up
after the fleeing green. Jodeth was ahead of him but he almost had a
clear shot at her, that is, if his luck went right.

F'neb tried to get closer to G'wen even as Ornigeth chased high into the sky
after Neath. That green would be his this time, and he would show her such a
good time that she'd never, ever choose another.

}:Mine!:{ roared Ornigeth, desperately wanting Neath to choose him.

}:No, his.:{ Neath replied and fell into the path of Imalkyth. They
had all flown well but she had made her choice. The young brown that
shown himself the best this time, and he was a worthy mate.

Imalkyth grabbed the green and crooned to Neath, enfolding her as they
fell from the sky. K'ale's arms wrapped around G'wen in the same
manner as he claimed the prize his lifemate had won.

Galerith roared a protest, deeply disappointed. }: But she was mine!:{ the
blue almost wept.
His rider took their losing more calmly. Sh'lua already had a person to
picked out who to help him get rid of the last of the dragonlust.

G'nir was actually relieved when Nirreth turned back to the weyr. Now, there
were definitely Flights he didn't want to win!

G'wen and Neath could have cared less. He submitted to K'ale as the
two dragons fell in the winter sky.
