N'vanik

She lay on her side as she emerged from the after effects of
Panitath's mating flight. She basked in the golden glow of her
lifemate's satisfaction and for a moment didn't quite know where she
was or who she was with. The flight had been long and high both
indicators there would be a large and healthy clutch to follow. That
in itself made her happy and proud. Once again there were doing their
duty to Pern and this time to Dolphin Cove.

Her sleeping gold lay entwined with her new mate and seemed to float
in her own happy cloud. **I'm confirmed** Cyradis smiled and happily
hugged the thought to herself. She was the Weyrwoman now in all ways
and no one could take that away from her. Least of all the man who
slept at her back.

Half asleep, N'vanik rolled. "Ow! Sharding crackdust!" He moved again,
elbowing Cyradis as he tried to relieve the pain in his shoulder.

"Shardit," she yelled as she ended up on the floor next to the bed.
His elbow had jabbed her in the middle of her back and knocked her
clean off the bed. Her good mood was gone. She stood up and glared at
him, arms akimbo.

"Oops." N'vanik looked sheepish as he rubbed his shoulder. **I won.**
Relief and happiness washed over him, even if the current situation
was far from ideal. "I figured it would be _you_ kicking _me_ out of
bed." He bit his lip to hold back a laugh.

"You think it's _funny_?" She couldn't miss smirk on his face.
"Another few minutes and it probably would have been," she added
tartly.

Cyradis bent to scoop her dress of the floor and throw it over her
head. She struggled with the arms for a moment before the poked
through and it settled around her.

He laid flat on his back, the pain in his shoulder dropping to a dull
throb. "Why am I not surprised you have no sense of humor."

She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes before turning to the table
of refreshments. "I have a great sense of humor when the person I'm
speaking to isn't busy being the south end of a north bound runner."
She picked up a glass and poured herself a drink of water.

"It was an _accident_."

"Mmhmm," she mused noncommittally and poured a second glass of the
chilled water. Turning back, she handed one to him. "Congratulations
you're Weyrleader again. Now, we really have to try and find a way to
work together without ripping at each other all the time. Truce?"

He took the glass a bit awkwardly in his left hand. He was getting
pretty good at using it for most things, but he still couldn't write
worth a shard. "I guess." The last few sevendays he'd tried not to get
his hopes up, tried to make peace with the idea that he might not win.
Yet here he was.

Well, that was better than an outright sullen no, or at least she
though so. The flight effects were still surging through her and he
suddenly began to look very good laying there like he was.

She clenched her jaw and turned back to the table. Leaning on it she
strove to gain some control. "Maybe we can talk about that tomorrow,"
she said and went back to find her shoes and push her feet into them.
"I need to go..." She wanted K'deren more than anything in that
moment.

"Leaving so soon?" It was probably a bad idea, but he was feeling
brazen so he added, "You get to be on top since my shoulder is messed
up." His sling had to be around here. He must have pulled it off
during the Flight.

She almost snorted and raised a quizzical eyebrow as she turned back
to look at him. "Honestly?" That offer from N'vanik was about the last
one she'd expected. "I don't think so," she added after a moment. Then
she saw his sling on the floor and went over to pick it up and hand it
to him. Then, she turned on her heel and went out the door.

Well, she hadn't yelled at him or slapped him, so N'vanik considered
that a good sign.
