Loseth winged his way up to the heights and settled near Panitath.

Panitath raised her head to look at the handsome bronze. }:Hello,:{
Her eyes whirled with pleasure at his compliments. Then she yawned and
stretched. }:The sun is warm today. It feels good.:{
The bronze stretched as well, showing off his size. }:Do you like it here?:{
Panitath considered the question a moment. }:Yes,:{ she declared
firmly. }:The hatching sands are warm and wide and there are several
handsome bronzes.:{ She admired his wingspan before looking across the
bowl at a Padraith and Mnoranth.
He rumbled his approval, assuming he was one of the handsome bronzes.
}:Good. Then you will stay?:{
}:Mine says we will:{ she answered unconcernedly. }:This is a good
place.:{ The waters and the sands and the sun were very pleasant. }:I
like the dolphins.:{
}:I do too. I'll tell my rider that you will stay. He remembers that I
have lost two mates now.:{ Loseth shifted closer to the queen.
}:Have you? I suppose that is not nice. We lost ours after much time
together. Mine was very unhappy:{ Panitath thought a moment the ache
her rider had seemed to carry for so long had eased. }:She is happier
here.:{
}:That's good. My rider worries a lot, but he's happy here too.
Dolphin Cove is a good place.:{ He looked over at the golden beauty.
}:You'll be my new mate, and we'll have many strong hatchlings
together.:{
Panitath's whirling eyes looked him over carefully. }:You seem
strong:{ Then she looked across the bowl. }:But so is Mnoranth.
Perhaps you will catch me and perhaps not. You'll have to show me your
strength that day.:{
}:I am the strongest, and the best. You'll see!:{ Loseth had no
problem proving his worth, he'd done it before.
}:I will see,:{ she replied without passion. }:I will fly high and far
and I will choose. Only the strongest will hope to tempt me.:{ She was
proud of her size and beauty and would settle for nothing less than
the very best to give her a new clutch. She was in her prime as was
this bronze. But with that strength of declaration she allowed the
bronze close enough to lay against her. }:You _are_ handsome.:{
}:Very handsome,:{ he agreed, nestling against her. Loseth crooned,
pleased at the attention.
Panitath's mood lightened as the bronze lay against her. This was a
good place and she would find a mate here, maybe even Loseth if he
proved himself to her.
Cyradis had felt the flow of her lifemate's thoughts and walked out on
the ledge to gaze up at the heights. She shook her head but guarded
her thoughts. Her gold was with the Weyrleader's bronze again. He was
certainly pressing his suit and her lifemate seemed to like him.
Even after her talks with Qorri and even Rhosyn she couldn't bring
herself to forgive the way N'vanik had treated her without a thought
to who _she_ was or what _she_ felt. But she had firmly committed
herself to stay here. These people had had enough of change and if
K'deren hadn't explained some of it to her she might have made a
different decision.
But then she'd seen him lead the Flight into a Fall and she understood
why he was Weyrleader. She'd been trying to set her feelings aside and
work with him but it was hard. Cyradis turned and went back into her
weyr.
}:Would you like to go play with the dolphins?:{ Loseth asked. }:I'm
friends with many of them.:{
}:Yes, they are fun!:{
Loseth stood and stretched his wings. }:Ladies first.:{
She didn't need any more encouragement and stood before launching into
the air with a mighty leap and soaring toward the Dolphin Hall and
their playmates.
Loseth followed, skimming over the gentle waves for a moment before
landing in the water. He didn't have to call the dolphins, a small
group was nearby and immediately headed for the huge dragons, squeeing
in excitement.
"Dragons! Dragons!"
"Will you play?" One asked, tailwalking.
Panitath crooned to the dolphins before diving deep into the water.
Inner eyelids closed and eyes whirling with excitement and pleasure.
She stroked back to the surface near the pod.
Loseth arched up in the water, then flopped onto his side, creating a
wave that splashed several dolphins as well as Panitath.
Soon dolphins and dragons were leaping and splashing about in a show
of joy and playfulness. Panitath crooned again to both the dolphins
and the bronze.
}:I'm glad you came here,:{ Loseth said, eyes whirling a happy blue.
}:I am too,:{ She dove under the big bronze and the dolphins revolved
crazily around her. She was careful not to hit any of them with her
wings or tail, even though they seemed quite adept at dodging.
Loseth was very happy, playing with the dolphins and Panitath. She
would be his mate, and they would rule the Weyr together. His rider's
doubts were just silly.
