She didn't want to ask Ellianith how Nikornath's was, she figured she
already knew. Besides her green was still entwined with her blue
flight winner and basking in the afterglow.
It was an afterglow she would much rather have shared with K'sedel but
such was the lot of a greenrider. She didn't always get what she
wished for in that regard.
"K'sedel," she called as she came back through the door of their weyr.
"Ciara?" The bronzerider's voice showed slight signs of intoxication,
matched by the half empty wine skin by his side.
She closed her eyes for a moment and then followed the sound of his
voice. When she found him her eyes lit on the empty wineskin and his
state. "Oh Kes," she sighed.
"I came back here," he managed, wanting to say that at least he hadn't found
a bed warmer for a candlemark or so. There had been plenty of willing women,
but he'd shrugged them, off, focusing his mind on a cool glass of wine from
the Vintner Hall.
"I see," she said softly and went to him putting her arms around his
neck from behind. She lay her cheek against his head and just hugged
him for a moment. She hadn't stopped for a bath and couldn't help the
aroma but couldn't possibly stay away from him. Tears threatened but
she steeled herself momentarily. "Here," she said sliding her hand
down his arm to try and pull him. "Let's have a bath." She had some
good memories from times in the Weyrleader's big private bath.
He might as well have been a dead weight, but eventually the Weyrleader got
to his feet. "Are you sure?" he muttered.
"Of course I"m sure," she murmured back to him. She tried to get under
his arm to support him as they walked into the bathing room.
He stumbled along in the general direction of the bathing room, glad of the
support. "I need you," he managed to say.
Her heart went out to him. She knew how hard that was for him to say.
"I need you too," she responded looking up at him. "Here sit." She
guided him to the bench next to the pool then bent to help remove his
boots. "I love you K'sedel," she said with her heart in her eyes.
"Love you too," he said slowly as her words slowly made sense to him. "He
tried, Nikornath tried so hard."
The bronze had been so sure that he would win this flight, so certain he and
his rider would enjoy the pleasure that came from winning a flight, and have
them both share in the feelings that it generated, with the extra spice of
sharing it with his weyrmate. Nobody would have begrudged them staying in a
flight room for as long as they needed, it was understood with a weyrmated
couple that the need was sometimes more pressing, and when they had children
some took advantage of the 'alone' time.
"I know he tried," she shook her head and reached for the bottom of
his tunic. Pulling it up and over his head she pulled his arms through
though they turned the sleeves inside out. "I don't know why she'd
choose blue." Ciara shook her head as she reached for his belt.
His hands met hers, "I really do love you."
"And I love you more now than I ever have." She looked up into his
eyes. "It just keeps grownig over the turns. I'm sorry," she murmured
the last squeezing his hands.
"Don't be sorry," he squeezed her hands back gently. "You came back to me."
She went from a crouch to kneel between his legs and put her arms
around his neck. "I'll always come back to you." Ciara leaned in for a
sweet kiss. "Always," she breathed.
