Devyn resembled a lazy feline in many ways. Currently the greenrider
was lounging on her bed, enjoying the warmth of the furs that were
curled around her. It was snowing outside, again. It had just snowed
three days prior and there had still been drifts of it hanging around
in the Weyrbowl. Luckily the greenrider loved the cold and loved the
snow. What she loved most about it was that it gave her and J'darin an
excuse to hole up together without interruption or having to worry
about Threadfall. Things with the Weyrlingmaster were certainly going
just as Devyn wanted- slow, but steady. Smiling, she opened her eyes a
bit to look at the hair comb he'd gotten her, which was laying on her
bedside table.

**Would you speak to Hasaarth and ask where J'darin is?** She spoke to Ellyth.

}:No.:{ The word was tersely spoken.

Devyn raised an eyebrow. The green always loved talking to the bronze,
one of the things best known about Ellyth was that she was crazy about
bronze dragons in particular.

**Why not?**

Silence.

**Elly?**

Sitting up in the bed, Devyn pushed the furs back, absently running
her fingers through her hair. This feeling emanating from her dragon
wasn't foreign to the greenrider. She'd been with Ellyth for seven
Turns- long enough to know when her dragon was ready to rise. Grabbing
a pair of breeches, Devyn dressed quickly, her efforts cool and
collected as she stamped into a pair of riding boots, shrugged into
her jacket and then slipped the hair comb from J'darin into her hair.

Even as she walked to the flight room Devyn could feel Ellyth's testy
emotions boiling under the surface. There would be no reasoning with
her until the flight was over. Devyn wondered if J'darin's Hasaarth
would chase Ellyth. Just as she pushed the door to the flight room her
skin broke out into a sweat, her heart leaped in her chest and the
sound of a green screaming reverberated throughout the Weyr.

The brown was no fool and he was certainly not picky. She was green,
she was healthy, and she was flying. So he was chasing. Jodeth got himself
ready then launched after her without an announcement to anyone.

His rider was taken a bit off guard but it wasn't like it was the first time
this had happened. P'nal gracefully bowed out of the midday meal he'd been
having and then headed to the flightroom. When he walked inside and saw
Devyn and it clicked inside his head, he froze for an instant. Then his mouth
set into a grim line. It wouldn't be the first time their dragons had competed.

}: Mine!:{ Nirreth roared his challenge and his intentions. He
blithely ignored his riders feelings in this matter. The bronze had
set his mind to catch this lovely green. Never mind that his rider had
tons of hidework to do.

Galerith didn't bother with roaring showing off's. Nirreth's challenge
mostly amused the large blue. He and his rider arrived to the pens,
both eager to chase and win.

When tiny Kadeth bugled his intentions to chase the green S'vin
visibly paled, his fork only halfway to his mouth as he sat with
friends in the Dinning Hall. **Who?!**

}:Ellyth! I can catch her!:{

But...but...that was a GIRL!! And not just any girl but a close
friend! Shaking like a leaf he stood up. "Don't you even say a
word," he growled at G'wen, who was too busy laughing. Giving the
greenrider a good smack on top of the head, and another friend a dirty
look, he stalked out of the Dinning Room and jogged over to the Flight
Room where a crowd was gathering. There were some cute blueriders
here...maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all... With all the
bronzes out there Kadeth didn't stand a chance, anyways.

}:I do!:{ the graceful blue challenged as he settled with the other
males, his haunches coiled, ready for her to leap into the air.

}:She Rises!:{ Hasaarth crooned at his rider, who was standing nearby
thinking of asking for a lift to Devyn's. The snow made him want to
continue what they'd started - spending time together while it snowed
and letting the rest of the Weyr go hang. He was coming to
appreciate the fire in the greenrider and the way she looked at life -
and him - was like the sweetest of remedies.

At last!!! Ellyth was Rising!!

Hasaarth and she had been spending time together just as their riders
had, and he hoped that would give them an edge.

**CATCH HER!** He practically yelled, leaping off his bronze when he
was deposited in the large crowd around Devyn.

He saw P'nal and sighed - he didn't really like competing with his
friend, but they did and had,and would again - but there were far
_too_ many others here to make him happy.

He all but growled, echoing the dragons, as he moved as close to Devyn
as he could get in the crowd. He saw his gift in her hair and his
smile turned positively proprietary. What a lovely sight....he was
so pleased to see it, and her, even in this situation.

One part of him was so proud that this many wanted Ellyth, but the
other, larger, angrier part was prepared to fight for his mate.

**Catch her!** He sent again, and his whole body tensed, aching with
need, jealousy, and sheer determination.

Ellyth crowed her prowess as she rocketed upwards, the initial burst
of adrenaline and lust giving her the needed speed to get ahead of the
powerful male pursuers. The green was incredibly proud to have bronze
dragons in her flight, the brown and blues didn't go unnoticed either!
Ellyth had been flown by both brown and blue dragons in the past, but
never a bronze.

}:Come on, boys!:{ The green barrel-rolled to the side.

Jodeth saw Hasaarth and Nirreth, though the brown didn't let it faze him.
Chasing greens was easier for him than them. He was faster, but had better
size than the blues for catching. In his mind, he was just what Ellyth needed.
Each of his wingbeats was like four of the blues'. Flying was effortless, though
she was fast with her smaller size. As the light played upon his hide,
his whirling red eyes stayed on her. She was his beacon, above all
else. }:I am not a boy,
but a dragon full grown. I chase you Ellyth because I can give you
what you need.:{

}: Coming! You don't have to wait for me! :{ Galerith called back and
launched after her. He was as big as smaller browns, so he had was
among the first ones on the sky. He might not be able to match her
barrel rolls, but he could out-fly her. She would tire earlier than he
and the experienced blue was patient hunter.

He let all the others waste their time and energy calling to her,
Kadeth wasn't that sort of fool. As pretty much the smallest male he
burst off the ground, close to her. Like a sprinter runnerbeast he
concentrated on quick fast moves to try to keep ahead of the pack of
males. His advantage was speed and he knew it.

Hasaarth was not as fast as the smaller males, but he was strong, and
he was smart. He could outlast any for stamina but perhaps the
younger brown and the other bronze. He growled at Nirreth. He had
competed with that bronze before, and lost. Turning from his enemy,
he focused on the prize. He had never chased this green before, but
he was driven by his rider's strong desire for Ellyth's rider, and his
own not so small interest in the green for herself.

He didn't try to match her agile move, but instead judged where she
would come out of the roll and flew there with strong, steady wings.
He would catch her. He would! J'darin flinched on the ground,
knowing Hasaarth was not the closest to the lovely green. He knew he
might have to share Devyn, but he did not _want_ to.

Ellyth found herself intrigued by the presence of blue Kadeth. She
gathered from her rider's feelings that there was some amusement at
the thought of Kadeth's rider, S'vin, being involved in their flight.
Still, Kadeth was a graceful, handsome blue, and none of that was lost
on the green. Just because she normally preened over bronze dragons
didn't mean that Ellyth didn't see the value in an agile mate.

Ignoring Hasaarth and Nirreth, for the present, Ellyth then focused in
on brown Jodeth. Yes, he was _nice_. The dark mahogany of his hide,
and the way it rippled like a polished veneer as he flew was
_definitely_ enticing. He was certainly right in the fact that he was
no _boy_.

}:Come, Jodeth, fly closer to me.:{ She beckoned, her neck ducking in
a flirtatious manner as they flew. Ellyth had no intentions of ending
the flight just yet, but she wanted to admire the brown further and
see how determined the other males really were.

He didn't need further urging. Swiftly, he managed to get closer to her,
bringing his bulk to bear on a blue that didn't argue when he realized the
the brown's intentions and the lengths he was willing to go to in order to
see them realized. }:You fly well, using the winds and the rest to save your
strength. Very smart. I would have you in my wing:{ Not a fan of empty
flattery, the brown meant what he said.

Nirreth increased the pace of his wings, surging after Jodeth. She
hadn't chosen yet and as long as she hasn't been caught, the bronze
was going to do everything he can to win her.

Hasaarth grew angry at her preference for a brown when _he_ was there.
She was sweet to him when their riders were together, and he would
show her how worthy he was of her attention in her Flight too. His
anger came out in a brassy bellow, warning off any blues near and even
Jodeth and Nirreth. He was determined to win her.

}:Ellyth, lovely, clever, and fast, I will make it worth your while to
choose me. :{ Like Nirreth, he would not give up the fight when she
had not chosen yet. He was in good position after her clever roll,
though Jodeth was now the closest to her. He was large and strong,
and he would have her!

Imalkyth who had been hanging around the edges of the flight to avoid
getting boxed by the others this time finally made a bold move. His
freshly oiled pecan brown hide flashed in between a pair of dragons as
they followed the beautiful glowing green. }:Choose me lovely,:{ he
called with a bass rumble almost as deep as a bronze. }:I am young and
strong. I will fly you very well.:{

Being so close to Jodeth, Ellyth noticed, made the other dragons work
twice as hard. They were all so determined to have her- a lowly green!
Now even the fickle green dragon was having a hard time trying to
figure out who she should choose. The flash of Imalkyth's beautiful
hide drew her attention, but the outraged bugle from Hasaarth truly
made her take notice. She knew, she could feel, that her rider wanted
her to pick Hasaarth because of her connection to J'darin. It's just..
he wasn't the _only_ bronze in this flight, there was also Nirreth to
consider. Having the Weyrleader's bronze present in a green flight was
not something to ignore!

Shifting her tail, Ellyth began ascending sharply once more, }:It's up
to you now, boys! Catch me!:{ When the green had climbed as high as
her wings would take her she gracefully folded her wings against her
back and began to slowly plummet back down through the air, free
falling as she waited for the most worthy to catch her.

Ignoring Hasaarth's roar and the threat it implied, the experienced brown
easily saw her begin to fall before the others due to his proximity. Bellowing,
he turned his wings inward to dive, using his tail as a guide. He almost
clipped Imalkyth with a wingtip as he went past before he managed to get
to her before the others. Reaching out his talons, he claimed his win and
twined with her. They fell for some time before his wings came out to stop
their fall, the wind feeling like it could rip the wingsails.
Fortunately, Jodeth
had done this before and knew what he was doing. Angling with the currents,
he brought them to rest in a curled heap on the ground without too
many problems.

Meanwhile, in the flightrooms, without too much thought the Wingsecond
echoed his brown's movements and surged forward to pull Devyn into his
embrace, everything else forgotten.

Feeling a bit ditached S'vin watched the winners for a moment before
giving himself a shake. Kadeth's bitter disappointment in his mind,
he turned and caught the eye of a beautiful blue rider. With a nod of
the head both men went to an empty Flight Room.

Maybe riding a male dragon wasn't bad, not at all.

K'ale backed away as Imalkyth swerved to avoid the collision with the
diving brown. They'd been so close that time he could almost taste it.
Blinded by the lust he stumbled into the waiting arms of the nearest
female flight moth.

Anger still burned in his veins and body as Ellyth - his/their - prize
was claimed by another dragon and another rider. A _brown_! Echoing
Hasaarth's damaged pride strongly, J'darin didn't even know that it
was P'nal, not truly. Instead, he let the first wave of flight lust
carry him away with a nearby blue-eyed girl, aching for another girl
entirely. But he was too disappointed - and still burning up - to
fight this off with just a cold dip in the lake. A dim, far-away part
of him hoped Devyn would forgive him before be lost his ability to
think with the lovely, willing girl.

Nirreth bellowed his disappointment before turning back home. His
rider was already looking for company to burn off the dragon lust.

Galerith was disappointed but not overly so. There would be more
flights to come, to win and to lose.
