Cyradis heard the children's voices before anything else. They were
obviously having a great time. She grinned down at Kielya. "Sounds
like they're having fun. Would you like to stay here tonight instead
of with me? It's ok you know."
They'd had a nice dinner together with Naradis and now they'd come
back to get a toy they'd somehow left behind.
Kielya skipped ahead and through the door. "K'deren!" she called and
ran across the room to jump in his lap. Cyradis blinked and chuckled.
Her daughter never did that sort of thing.
"Well looks like you have an admirer."
"It seems I do," K'deren shifted slightly on his seat to let the youngster
get comfortable.
"Did you miss Deralie and Trievan?" he asked of the youngster.
"Yup," she smiled at the brownrider. "Deralie needs me sometimes at
night and I let her have Tomba." She smiled winningly. "Cuz she's my
sister now."
"Oh," put in Cyradis. "Maybe that's why Tomba wasn't in your bag." She
nodded with a lifted eyebrow.
"Tomba?" asked K'deren.
Cyradis came to lean against the arm of his chair. "Tomba is a nice
stuffed tabby feline. He's Kielya's very good friend."
"I see," K'deren said. "And he likes Deralie too?"
"Yes," volunteered the little girl with her slight lisp. "He likes to
keep us safe at nights."
Cyradis smiled affectionately at her daughter. "So, did you want to
stay here tonight?"
All she got was a little nod and then she slipped off K'deren's lap.
"Deralie, I'm home," she called.
Cyradis laughed and watched her daughter affectionately. "I guess
she's come a long way from that temper tantrum."
"It seems she has," K'deren said as he got to his feet. A smile for Cyradis
was on his lips. "She's settled here at last."
Cyradis gave a tiny sigh. She could count that as a small victory. One
victory in a slew of difficulties was a good thing however small. "Are
you done here tonight," she asked softly. She'd planned on spending
the evening with Kielya but now it seemed her date had ditched her.
"I think I've said goodnight to all I need to here."
She reached for his hand. "Let's go find a nice bottle of wine."
He took her hand, "That sounds like it could be a plan."
She twined her fingers with his and squeezed gently. For a moment she
didn't move but looked up into his eyes. Dark pools gazed into hazel
depths and she unconsciously leaned forward slightly.
Gently he squeezed back, returning her gaze. "Perhaps we should take this,
elsewhere," K'deren suggested after a moment or two.
She came to herself and murmured "Yes of course." She smiled softly at
him and let herself be led from the room.
