"Kes," Ciara called blearily from their sleeping chamber. "Are you
coming to bed?"

She wasn't sure what it was that was eating him this time but for the
last few nights he'd been awake and at the table when she'd gone to
bed. It was beginning to concern her a bit.

When he didn't answer, she swung herself off the bed and walked out
into the living area. "Kes?" she called softly. Walking up behind him
she put her arms around his neck. "Is everything alright?"

"I'll be fine," he said, swiveling round to face his weyrmate. "I'm
listening out for Radela, she's had nightmares the last couple of nights."

As he moved she stepped between his legs and sat on one knee. "Are you
sure that's all it is?" She tucked some of her hair behind an ear to
keep it out of her eyes.

"Well," he began, adjusting his position so both of them could be
comfortable. "It's not as easy to get on with Rhosyn as it was with previous
goldriders."

Ciara had made a point of keeping her 'nose' out of his Weyrleader
business but she'd seen the strain and known there were issues. Her
lips pressed together a little and her fingers stroked the back of his
neck. "Do you think it will get easier with time?"

"I hope so, I think she's just taking time to settle in, things are very
different here, and not just the climate."

She nodded and tried to think of a way to help him talk about it. He
was so very good about not bringing his work home with him at night
that she wanted to help when he needed to talk. "Tsaera was here a
long time. Maybe Rhosyn_is_ still just settling in. Everyone is
different, some just take a little longer."

"I know," he said. "I was thinking about asking her to join us here for
dinner one evening. I thought something informal, away from prying eyes
might help." He looked his weyrmate in the eye, trying to read her
expression. "You wouldn't mind, would you?"

He knew she liked to keep their private lives private but under the
circumstances she really couldn't blame him. "If you think it would
help, then okay." Not that she wanted to make a habit of it if it
could be helped.

Hearing herself, she realized she sounded a bit tentative so she
nodded more firmly. "Yes, we can do that."

"You know I wouldn't ask, but I need to find some way to make life easier."
He paused, as though about to say something more, but was interrupted by a
cry from their daughter.

"I know," she said as she quickly got up and went toward Radela's
alcove. She bent over the little bed and smoothed back tendrils of
sweat dampened hair. "What is it sweetheart," she asked softly.

"Bad dream Mama," the child managed. "Scary."

"Oh no," she sympathized. "How about I get you a drink of water," she
said after the crying seemed to fade to a sniffle. She quickly fetched
the promised drink and came back to sit on the side of her bed and
hold the glass for the little girl. "Feel better?" Ciara softly
stroked Radela's hair.

The girl nodded as she sipped at the water.

When she'd finished Ciara took the glass and bent over her daughter
for a quick kiss. "You know where we are if you need us again." She
said softly and went back out to her 'mate. "She'll be fine," she
said. "Cirina had the same issue around this age."

This time she pulled out another chair and perched on the edge of it.
"Are you coming to bed?" She laid a hand on his where is lay on the
table.

"Yes," K'sedel replied. "We'll all sleep well now."

A small smile lit her eyes and curved the corners of her mouth. She
rose and pulled at his hand as she backed toward their sleeping
chamber. "Sleep? Who said anything about sleep?"
