Cyradis

Cyradis

There was a flash of gold in the sky above Dolphin Hall and then it
began to spiral in toward the beach. Panitath had decided that today
she wanted to play with the dolphins.

**Let me off on the beach dear**

Wings flared and Panitath touched down lightly in the sand. Cyradis
slid off her side and pulled her bundle from the straps. "Ok, go have
fun," she smiled.

When he had caught sight of a gold dragon above the Hall, Naton's
first thought was that Meledei had come for another visit, this time
with her dragon. Praising himself lucky to have a bit of free time at
that moment, he decided to go and say hello to her. However, as he
walked onto the beach towards the visitor, he soon realised that it
wasn't Meledei that had landed, but someone else entirely. It was too
late to go back, though, that would just be rude, so Naton covered the
last bit of distance and greeted Cyradis with a broad, if polite,
smile. "Greetings, Weyrwoman Second," he said after a glance at her
knots. "I'm Journeyman Naton of the Dolphin Hall and I would like to
welcome you to our beach."

"Well met Naton," smiled the diminutive goldrider. "Thank you for the
kind welcome." She swept a hand toward where Panitath stood in the
waves not far down the beach. "She decided she wanted to come meet the
dolphins. She's curious."

"I am sure the dolphins will be delighted to make her acquaintance."
Naton says as his eyes followed the golden dragon with obvious
reverence. "She has to be the most beautiful dragon ever." That
slipped out without him realising and he grinned sheepishly. Sometimes
he would like to sound like the adult he was.

Panitath's head turned and whirling eyes looked directly at the man
standing near hers. She preened and flared her wings to display the
lovely colors underneath.

**Show off.**

"She, of course, agrees with you," laughed Cyradis. "I believe you've
made a friend." The queen was not immune to flattery and her rider was
well aware of it.

Naton's eyes grew bigger as he observed the golden dragon showing off
for his benefit. "I can't imagine why she wouldn't agree on that!" he
grinned. "I have never seen a gold dragon before, but now I understand
what all the fuss is about!"

She realized that Panitath had to be the largest dragon he'd ever
seen. Dolphin Cove had several large Bronzes but she was certainly
larger than any of them. Despite her size she stepped daintily into
the waves and was soon chest deep.

"She is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," agreed Cyradis. She
turned back to the Dolphineer. "So where are the dolphins? Do you
think they'll want to play with her?"

"Oh, I am sure they won't pass up an opportunity as good as this!"
Naton said with a grin. "Have you met the Dolphin Cove pod before?" As
he spoke, a couple of tell-tale fins appeared above the water and soon
the air rang with excited dolphin clicks.

"No," she said shading her eyes to look out toward the joyful sounds.
"I've never met any dolphins."

"I would love to introduce you to them sometime," Naton said with a
smile. "I'm sure the 'phins would love to meet you." Naton would
suggest to introduce them right away, but he wasn't sure how Cyradis
would feel about getting wet. Who knew what important duties lay
waiting for her back at the Weyr.

"I'd like that," she smiled. She shaded her eyes as she looked out at
the ocean. "Though perhaps when I'm more prepared?" Panitath had dived
into the water and she could feel the joy of her meeting with the pod.
She was swimming with them and enjoying every moment of it. Though she
was careful not to hit any of them with a careless sweep of her tail
or wings.

"That sounds like a plan," Naton said with a happy smile. "Are you an
experienced swimmer?" The dolphineer had no clue how much time
dragonriders, much less goldriders, had to swim.

"Oh I don't know about that," she smiled. "I can paddle around and
keep my head out of the water but I don't think I'd say experienced."

"Well, that is enough for a little swim with the dolphins," Naton said
with a smile. "They are very careful when they need to be and it an
incredible experience."

"Well then," she smiled. "I'll have to get back out here soon then."
She chuckled as the emotions of her lifemate communicated themselves
to her. "She's having lots of fun out there."

"So are the dolphins!" Naton said with an amused smile. "They love
playing with dragons. Well, they love playing with anyone, but dragons
do make excellent playmates, or so they say."

"Well, how about that. I don't think she's ever had a playmate. At
least not since we were Weyrlings." She looked out again at the water
and the pod of dolphins with Panitath.
