Comforting

Writers: Len, Paula
Date Posted: 30th March 2012

Characters: Uetia, J'nne
Description: Uetia misses Sabonus and Jayonne cheers her up...in a rather unexpected way.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 5 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Sabonus

There she was, tall and beautiful, walking across the Weyr's beach.
Jayonne knew she didn't think she was lovely, but she was. Not
everyone had to be tiny and delicate, after all. He liked that she
could look him in directly in the eye, and that she had strong facial
features. Heck, no one would ever say that his sister's nose was
small and it didn't retract one bit from her beauty. He liked her
figure, her stength. He liked the way she teased him, and how
comfortable she was with men. He liked her.

In his eyes, Uetia was beautiful.

Uetia felt his gaze, recognizing the familiar figure, she gave him a
lazy waive of hand for a greeting. She altered her direction a bit, it
was always fun to talk with Jayonne.

He blushed a bit when she caught him staring. It was something he
always tried to be unobtrusive about. She was Jaylene's close friend,
after all. And with Sabonus, a nice enough chap.

Nodding his head and grinning, he called out, "hello!" as she came over.

"Hi harper," Uetie replied and sat down cross legged. "Doing anything
special?"

"Me?" His voice came out in an undignified squeak. "Nah, nothing much
at all. My tendon in my left hand is bothering me, so my master wants
me to rest it for a sevenday or so and see how it's feeling then." He
held up his hand and waved it vaguely. "And you?"

"Drills, Thread, drills, swimming..." she didn't sound very cheery.
Now that Sabonus was on a ship assignment, she felt lonely.

He eyed her closer. "You okay? You sound really down."

"Sabonus is on a ship assignment." That really explained it all.

"Ah..." He sat back and studied the sea. "I thought I hadn't seen
him in awhile. How long is he gone then?"

"I don't really know for sure, several sevedays anyway, " Uetia replied.
The problems with ships that
you could never be sure how long a journey took. So much depended on
prevailing winds. If you hit calm, you weren't going anywhere.

"Can't you and Sirjath find their ship?" Jayonne tried to remember if
the young seacrafter had a firelizard.

"From middle of the ocean? Dragons need landmarks," Uetia said
incredulously. "Nah, I have to wait until his ship takes a port
somewhere," she sighed.

"Ah, I wasn't sure. You know you can always come and visit. Don't be
a stranger."

"Like you're sister would let me be," she gave him a playful nudge on the
arm.

"True," he laughed. "Of course you can always come over without my
sister, you know."

"Oh? You don't need a chaperone?" Uetia said, with her usual teasing
manner. "I thought you two were inseparateble."

"Nah, she let's me go unattended in the late night candlemarks.
Something about me being asleep in bed." He laughed at the thought of
Jaylene spying on him. Of all the siblings, he was by far the most
trustworthy.

"Gee, aren't you a good boy? When I was kid, I rarely was on my bed
when my dad or brothers checked on me," Uetia said.

"My, aren't you the bad girl?" he teased back.

"More like a wild tomboy," Uetia replied with a bemused smile.

"I can see that." He grinned. "Jay was as well. She was always
beating up J'len and J'zen as kids."

Uetia laughed and laid back, crossing her arms under her head. "I bet
she was. How about you? What kind of kid you were?" she asked. "Were
you really the good little boy?"

"Yeah..yeah I was." His face took on a thoughtful look. "Remember,
my da died when I was still young, and then J'len soon after..." He
watched the ocean horizon for a moment before glancing at Uetia.
"After that, everyone sort of spoiled me and if I ever got into a
whiff of trouble, Jaylene or J'zen were always at my heels."
Shrugging his shoulders, he rolled his eyes and laughed.

"You ever wanted to be something else?" Uetia asked. "I admit that
there were times when I wished I was pretty and petite, with long
curly hair and mother or older sister who would help me fix the hair,"
she sighed wistfully. She had lost her mother early.

"What's wrong with your hair? I like it." He reached out and ruffled
the blond locks in question. "And besides, Jaylene's always bitching
about how her's tangles and she has a hard time getting it all under
her helmet on Fall days."

"Hey, don't mess it, it's bad enough already!" Uetia cried.

It was too hard to resist. Leaning over, Jayonne jokingly pinned
Uetia down so he could ruffle her hair unmercifully.

Jayonne really wasn't strong enough to keep her pinned if she really
had wanted to get him off. She didn't even try. "You'll pay," she
threatened playfully and tried to nip his lips. It turned into a kiss.

When she did that, Jayonne threw all caution to the wind and kissed
her deeply.

She wrapped her arms around him.
