Cyradis made her way into the caverns with the crowds of people
attending the hatching. She didn't feel precisely out of place but
more like she'd been transplanted. Her eyes automatically scanned the
crowd expecting to see a familiar face. Taking her place with the
other goldriders and visiting dignitaries she nodded and smiled as
though she didn't feel the least bit out of place.

She had a great deal of practice keeping that mask of pleasantry in
place through all the trials her last Weyr's leadership had thrown her
way. This time it was just because she didn't know anybody not
because she was expecting a figurative knife in the back.

}:Nirreth is here.:{

**Really?** Her eyes scanned the crowd looking for the tall blond
head. She didn't see him right away but at least she knew she'd find a
familiar face in the crowd at some point. Then he walked into the
cavern with a group of people who looked to be from another Weyr.

A smile spread across her face. "Weyrleader knots look good on you,"
she murmured to herself. Then her attention was grabbed by rocking
eggs and a cheer that went up when the first one hatched was a bronze.
She turned and threw a thumbs up to the young goldrider. In the
process she lost track of where G'nir had gone.

Once the hatching had finished and she'd gone down along the line of
feeding pails to congratulated each new pair. She changed and made her
way to the hatching feast.

She grabbed a glass of citrus juice from the table and began to
circulate through the crowd pausing for conversations here and there
but finally finding who she was looking for. She approached from the
front so he could see her coming.

"Hello G'nir," she smiled. "Good to see you."

"Cyradis! What a lovely sight you are! I heard you're back to South,"
G'nir replied with delighted tone. He took her hands and bent to kiss
her cheek.

She gave him her cheek and a saucy smile. "Yes, and glad to be here,"
she replied squeezing his fingers. "You're doing well," her eyes slid
to his knots and back to his face.

"So do you. How have you been? And your mate? N'lon was he? And the children?"
G'nir replied and asked. He had known Cyradis since he was weyrling.
Bronzerider like him would make sure he's at least met all the Weyr's
goldriders. If he could bed them, even better. Cyradis had always
resisted his charm though.

She schooled herself to remain as pleasant as possible. "N'lon and I
have parted ways," she waved a hand to forstall further questions on
that score. "The boys stayed in the north but the girls are here." Not
for the first time she thought how unbearable handsome the bronzerider
really was. She knew many a woman who'd been smitten by that smile.
Over the turns she'd found she could maintain a friendship with him
much more easily if she kept him at arms length. "And you?"

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," G'nir replied. "Does it mean I now have
a chance?" he asked with a half-joking, half hopeful tone.

"You never know," Cyradis laughed, shaking her head and hugging the
big Weryleader. "You never change. I think that's a pretty good thing
actually."

"Consistency is a virtue," G'nir replied with a grin.

She chuckled and hung on his arm. "Oh yes it is. I've missed you." She
didn't miss some of the glances in their direction. "So how is life
treating you? How are your kids?"

"They are fine. Baila and I are still arguing about Grilec's
upbringing and Rinnea is a happy little girl," G'nir replied. "He's a
Lord Holder's grandson for Faranth's sake, he should have certain
standards in his education...," he realized she might not want to hear
that and cut it off.

She chuckled, there was still that bit of hauteur in G'nir that would
never go away. "Mmhmm," she said with a twinkle. "I haven't met your
Weyrwoman yet. Is she about?"

"Of course she is. I believe she's catching up with Rhosyn," G'nir replied.

"Ah," she said. "I did meet Rhosyn, she was... interesting." Cyradis
wasn't quite sure about the Riverbluff Weyrwoman. She figured she
would reserve judgement until she had more information. "You get along
well?" She had her hopes that G'nir would retain his leadership.

"Quite well actually," G'nir replied. "So, you settling in here all right?"

"Good," she said with a genuine smile. Whatever else he was she knew
G'nir would make a fine Weyleader. "I'm doing well," she said. "There
is a great deal of catching up to do. There was just so much left
undone for so long. The people are nice though."

"This weyr has had some bad luck with goldriders lately," G'nir
remarked. "I hope you'll bring them stability," he continued.

"So I've heard," she said. "I certainly hope so." Then she just wanted
to change the subject. "Hey! Would you like some of my Citroncello?
I've got a few bottles in my weyr. I seem to remember you liked it."

"Mmm, I never say no to that kind of offer," G'nir replied with a
flirty twinkle in his pale grey eyes.

It wasn't really that kind of offer but she shook her head and
laughed. "This way," she said and led him away from the party and
toward her weyr much like she had with Rhosyn earlier. He really
was devastatingly handsome.
