Description: Zahren Impresses!
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 11 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Meledei, R'enh

This was all happening a bit faster than expected. He'd just spoken
with Meledei the day before and there was no indication that the
Hatching would be imminent! As the humming grew louder, Zahren was
quick to throw on his robe, slip on his boots and race to the Hatching
Grounds along with the other candidates. They moved inside at an
orderly pace, wanting to make the very best impression upon the guests
who came to watch.

He frantically looked around for his father, mother, and sister, only
spotting them briefly once he'd settled into position. "Good luck!"
Ernola shouted out, a beaming smile on her face. His parents were
more subdued, knowing it wasn't a certainty he would Impress at this,
his first Hatching.

Zahren waved then looked around for any other familiar face. There
was Meledei with R'enh and he chuckled at the ecstatic smile on her
face. He could only imagine how excited she was but he was glad to
see it.

Many of the eggs were rocking and he couldn't decide which would break
first. It was nerve-wracking … the noise, the sights, the smells …
the boy next to him was sweating buckets and stunk but he barely
registered it.

The first egg broke and then Mnoranth bellowed, scaring him nearly out
of his skin. He'd nearly missed the color but was pleased to note it
was a bronze that appeared first. Then everything was happening at
once.

As each dragonet appeared, Zahren was careful to keep out of the way
of those searching, as they were instructed by the Weyrlingmaster. He
was amazed at the variety that had hatched already and was thrilled
for each person who Impressed. Part of him watched with a detached
air, analyzing each moment as notes and melodies filtered through his
mind. He was on the verge of making an amazing song when he felt his
stomach suddenly cramp … hard.

"Wha … I ate …" he mumbled before looking over to see a large, very
dark brown dragonet heading his way. The dragonet stumbled a bit but
was on a mission and there was nothing that would stop him. Zahren
was intrigued as the notes in his head disappeared.

}: Yes, lucky you got to eat but I have not and I am quite hungry. I
am Garreth and you would not deny me, would you? :{

Zahren was stunned and simply gazed at the brown as he vaguely heard
Z'hrentis shout with joy. Thoughts and feelings and *hunger* filled
his being as the bond between them formed and grew with each passing
moment. "I can feel that," he said and smiled before he reached to
caress the wet headknob that was gently shoved into his stomach.

}: Now, mine :{ Garreth stated emphatically.

"Okay, okay … his name is Garreth," Z'hren called up to his family,
glanced at Meledei and R'enh then led his beautiful brown to be fed
with his clutchmates. A whole new chapter was about to start and he
found he was actually looking forward to it!
