Description: A new goldrider arrives at Dolphin Cove
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 4 of Turn 6
She took one last turn around the room just to make sure she had
everything. This was a big step and one that had been a long time
coming. Her children would come later once she'd made the appropriate
arrangements. As her eyes scanned the room they lit on one small item.
It wasn't valuable in an intrinsic sense, no. But it was rich in
memories. She picked it up and tucked it into a small pouch at her
waist. Then picked up a final bundle and carried it out to the ledge.
**Are you ready my darling**
}:Always,:{ returned the beautiful mind voice of her lifemate.
Cyradis tucked the bundle into the net slung from Panitath's harness
and lashed it tight. Then she climbed aboard. The gold's harness
carried nets full of much that was most important to her.
She strapped herself in and soon they were air-born and circling the
Weyr. **Enough,** she said finally. They got their picture of Dolphin
Cove from the escort that had been sent to bring them there.
The incredible cold of /between/ gripped them for the appropriate
length of time before they popped into the warm air above their new
Weyr. Multiple dragon voices saluted Panitath's arrival from the
heights and Cyradis smiled.
}:Welcome, lovely queen.:{ Loseth greeted the new arrival. He told his
rider, }:The new gold and her rider are here.:{
**Have her come see me in my office,** N'vanik said. Loseth relayed the message.
When they received the summons Panitath landed lightly in the
Weyrbowl. "Will you please have her unloaded?" Cyradis asked a rather
official looking welcome committee. "Thank you." Then she turned to
her young escort. "Please show me to the Weyrleader's office. He's
expecting me."
She followed the young bronzerider who's lifemate was also loaded down
with some of her possessions and soon arrived at the appropriate door.
Knocking first she opened the door and walked into the room.
"Weyrleader," she bowed her head politely to the tall man with the
elegant knots. "I am Cyradis." She had stripped the Wery affiliation
of her old home from her own knots before she'd left, happy to
symbolically brush their crackdust off her shoulders.
"Please have a seat. And welcome to Dolphin Cove." He'd cleaned his
desk, only one neat stack in the corner and Cyradis's transfer in
front of him.
She stepped around the chair and settled in the seat with a very
straight back and hands in her lap. She kept a pleasant half smile on
her face. "Thank you," she said with a small nod.
N'vanik took in her posture and expression. **Typical goldrider?** he
wondered. Oh well. They needed someone with experience and as long as
she didn't get in his way it would be fine. "Do you mind if I ask why
you wanted to transfer here?"
Cyradis had never been one to prevaricate but to be total honest about
what she had left wasn't necessarily the best road until she got to
know the Weyrleaders a bit better. "Panitath and I were bred here in
the south, so it's more like coming home more than anything else."
That much was true.
He didn't think it was quite that simple, but he wasn't going to pry.
"Well, we're glad to have you. I know the other goldriders will
appreciate the extra help. Janani needs a 'Second and Meledei needs
more training. Janani does her best, but she can't always spend time
with Meledei."
She nodded. "Thank you," she said with a genuine smile. It was good to
be wanted. "I haven't had a chance to talk to the Weyrwoman yet, is
there anything you'd like me to tackle first?" She'd jumped at the
chance to come to Dolphin Cove but that didn't mean she hadn't done
any research. She knew a little about some of their recent troubles
but didn't want to seem forward about it.
"There's quite a lot of hidework Janani hasn't had time to get to,
older stuff left behind by ... the previous Weyrwoman." N'vanik
shifted. "But you should talk to Janani about that. Aside from the
work, the most important thing is just to get to know people."
"Right up my alley," Cyradis smiled. Her administrative skills were a
source of pride to her. She loved her records and research. "Is there
an archivist I can meet to get an overview of where all the records
are stored? It may take me a little while to get up to speed but we'll
make sure all that hidework get's caught up."
"We have a senior journeywoman that practically lives in the archives
and she'd be happy to show you around."
She nodded. "Excellent. Is there anything else? I am afraid I left
Panitath in the bowl still laden with my things. She's not complaining
but I would like to get her unloaded."
"Oh, no. I just wanted to make sure you got a proper welcome. Take all
the time you need to settle in," N'vanik said.
"Well thank you for the welcome," he smiled. Then she stood and
reached out her hand. "I'm very glad to be here."
N'vanik shook her hand. "And we're glad to have you."
