Briata

Ahead was the familiar black mane of hair Jayonne was looking for.
"Briata! Hey, Briata!" He ran up to her, closing the gap between
them. Jaylene had a great idea and he wanted to see if the girl who
always had that shadow of sadness about her wanted to join in.

When she heard her name, Briata stopped and turned. The harper received
a small but friendly smile. "Hello, Jayonne. How are you?"

"I'm good. Out of shape." He indicated his out of breath self and
shook his head. "But otherwise good. How about you?"

"Out of shape?" Briata laughed softly. "I wouldn't have guessed it."
She paused at his question, then answered honestly. "I'm...doing all
right." Not perfect, but better. Slowly better.

"Well, compared to all the riders around here." He nodded to some of
the men about, noting they carried a lot more muscle than he did.
What was Uetia always calling him? Scrawny boy, that was it.

"People are different, and just because you aren't like them doesn't
mean you're out of shape." Briata pointed out. "Where are you
headed?"

"True," he answered to the first part of her statement. For the
second he added, "I was going to go look for Jaylene...she said she'd
be on the beach. All I have to do is find Reanth."

"Oh?" Briata's eyes darted about and she shook her head. "I haven't
seen her."

"Me either. Well, what we both wanted to ask was would you like to go
with us..and maybe Uetia and U'fouinn as well. Or even Im're, it'd be
good to get him out and about. We want to go to that waterfall up
river, the one you can slid down on without getting killed. You ever
been there before?" His dark grey eyes studied hers, looking for any
unconscious reactions. He knew she was private, so wasn't sure how
she would take the invitation.

"No. I haven't." Briata had heard some mention it before, that it was
a lot of fun, but she had a hard time imagining a waterfall that didn't
include a drop that would dash you to pieces at the bottom. "How...do
you slide down a waterfall?"

He grinned. "You cross your legs, push off and hope you hit the
bottom! So you up for it?"

Briata blinked and stared at the harper for a moment. "It...sounds
rather dangerous. And frightening."

He gave her a silly grin. "Would we put our resident listener in on
all things dragon into danger?"

"I don't know, Jayonne. It's...not something I've done before." And
to be honest, wasn't something Briata ever saw herself doing!

"Well, there you go! You gotta try it_now_." He gave her his best
cheeky harper grin and waited to hear her answer.

"I...don't know." Briata glanced around, as if searching for a way
out, but she was on her own. "I...suppose." It didn't sound safe, it
sounded odd but, she supposed people had done it before. And she could
always just watch.

"Okay then!" He took that as a yes. "Why don't you meet us outside
the dining Hall tomorrow morn? We can have you ride either Reanth or
Verlith, if that's okay."

"All right." Briata agreed, though she couldn't help but be a little
hesitant. Sliding down a water fall - was this really such a good idea?
