"I have a couple presents for you," greenrider smiled as he strode into the Weryleader's office. "You're not doing anything now, are you?" he asked as he slipped a cheek onto a bare spot on K'sedel's desk.
"For now, no." K'sedel smiled up at his eldest son. "What brings you into this Weyr?"
"Candidates, my dear father, Candidates," R'sedel grinned. "I was asked to help cover some extra territory since I was told your Candidate pool is a thin this time. So Eniidith and I put our talents to good use and I am brining you _two_ Candidates from Masheen Hold."
"Now that sounds like music to my ears, and Tsaera will appreciate it as well," replied the Weyrleader. "How is Eniidith?"
"Moody. Her favorite blue was score in the last fall and will not be in any mating flights any time soon." R'sedel shrugged and gave his father a teasing grin. "I told her it just means she needs to switch to bronze!"
"Like all women, she'll make her mind up when the time comes." The preferences of his son were not an issue for him, knowing full well that in a Weyr he would be accepted.
His son picked up a little knicknack from the desk and played with it absently. "I have no doubt of that. She's so picky though. But I guess that's what makes her such a good Search dragon."
"Almost certainly, if she can find those that the dragons want..." Searching was a rare skill, and those dragons that showed signs of it, well they were encouraged as much as possible. Changing the subject, K'sedel asked, "Have you been to see your mother lately?"
"Oh, you know I can't _avoid_ the woman," R'sedel said with a fond little snort as he replaced the object in his hands and picked up another. "If I go more than a sevenday without dropping by to see her, she sends that terror of a flit of hers to find me."
"I bet," Nikornath had caught her in flight a couple of times, R'sedel being the result of the second time. "Tell her I asked after her."
"I will," R'sedel nodded. "And your own mighty bloodline? How are all your other offspring doing?"
"K'deren is getting there, losing his weyrmate hit him hard. But he has the kids to bring him through. K'reyel you could drop in on yourself."
"You never will give up, will you Dad," the greenrider said with a tolerant smile. "You just want us all to get along."
"It would be nice, just try for my sake."
"Come on, Dad, it's only natural for siblings to not get along sometimes. Considering all the kids you have, I think we all get along pretty well!"
"I will have to admit that," conceeded the Weyrleader.
R'sedel shrugged. "I'll tell you what. I'll think about it. If it means that much to you..."
"Well he and his new weyrmate are thinking about starting a family. You wouldn't want to deprive yourself of more nieces and nephews to spoil would you?"
"Oh, yes, because you know Searchriders have so much _time_ for spoiling more nieces and nephews," he replied with a roll of his eyes. "Speaking of which... Do you need me to bring you more candidates?"
"A few more wouldn't hurt."
"I'm sure," R'sedel chuckled. "Shards, Dad, someone should tell Nikornath that he's 43-turns old. He's getting too old to be fathering clutches that big!"
"You try telling Eniidith that when she reaches the same age and still wants to fly," was the good humoured reply.
"Well, I'll tell you one thing, when Eniidith is that age, I'm going to make sure its the young spry dragons that will be catching her. I don't want arthritis ruining _my_ mating flights," he said with a wink as he slipped off the desk.
K'sedel smiled at that, Where had his son got his sense of humour from? "Have you got to go yet?"
"Well, if I'm going to track down K'reyel, make up for turns of disagreements, meet the mother of my future nieces and nephews and finish in time to have dinner with _you_, I suppose I'd better get to it."
"I'll see you back here in a couple of candlemarks then," said his father. "You'll find Mai in her and K'reyel's weyr, it's here," he said pointing to a map of the weyr on his office wall."
"Ah, the master of tactics is at work. Get me and the weyrmate to be friends and it should go a long way to smoothing things over," the greenrider gave his father a playful poke in his stomach. "You are a schemer, you are."
"I prefer to think of it as tactics."
