Y'gel

Briata had woken up early and spent the dawn down at the beach. Sunrises,
sunsets, sometimes she viewed both upon the sandy shores. Sometimes she
didn't watch either. But that morning she had been drawn and the glorious
dawn had rewarded her for her efforts. Afterwards, she made her way to the
dining hall where she saw Angshel and sat with him. Breakfast didn't take
long, at least not for Briata. She was rarely hungry in the mornings and
generally only ate because she knew she needed the food to sustain her til
lunch. When she and Angshel had finished, they rose and she walked with him
for a little ways. There would be a corridor where they would have to part,
her to her classes, and his to his own. "Would you care to meet for
dinner?" She asked her voice soft. "Or have you plans to meet someone
else?"

"No, no plans," the boy smiled. "It'd be nice to have dinner. Do you want
to meet in the hall, or would you rather have a picnic on the beach?" Now
that the weather was so nice, it was rather enjoyable to sit and watch the
sun set whilst having dinner.

"The hall is fine. The beach is fine. Whichever you prefer." She
kept a decent pace, but didn't hurry. There was plenty of time to get
to her classes as well as walk Angshel most of the way. At least to
the door where they would most definitely have to part and she would
have to backtrack. She might as well. "There is Threadfall
tomorrow." She commented, almost absently, though her tone masqued
the tumult of her thoughts as it was brought to mind. "I will hope no
one is hurt." It was almost a certainty at least a few would, but
Briata always prefer to think good thoughts whilst preparing for the
worst.

"How about the beach?" He did love the beach. They could enjoy the
sun and the wind and also watch the dragons body surf.

Y'gel was crossing the Weyr bowl on his way to the dragonhealers
cavern and came up behind the other two. "I'd rather there wasn't
anyone hurt tomorrow myself."

Briata turned at the sound of a voice that had only recently become
familiar and her head inclined in a polite nod. "Dragonhealer Y'gel.
It is good to see you again." She had heard an approach of someone,
but hadn't bothered to turn to see who it was. The Weyr was always so
busy with people moving about, most simply kept on going by.

Y'gel grinned at the two. He was a morning person and going to a job
he loved. He was always happy in the morning and his entire staff knew
it. "Making plans for dinner already and it's not even lunch!"

Angshel shrugged his shoulders and laughed. He could say that Y'gel
was the only non blue or green rider here who's company he enjoyed.
The kindness of the man radiated out from his being and said in no
words to the boy that he would always be safe as long as the
Masterhealer was around.

"It's nice to have someone to eat with." Briata commented with a
slight shrug. Jewel protested the movement and playfully nipped at
her mistress' hair. "And I doubt I will be taking lunch in the dining
hall."

"You could join us, if you wish, Sir," Angshel added, smiling at his Master.

"I'm sure I would love to." he grinned and tousled the boy's hair.

"Indeed, you are most welcome to join us whenever you like." Briata
echoed a bit late, then smiled as Y'gel treated Angshel as if he were
a younger brother or perhaps a son rather than apprentice. That was
good. He needed positive role models in his life. "Have you been
well, Master?"

"Yes," he smiled. "Have you?"

"As well as can be expected." Briata inclined her head politely. It
was pretty much the same answer she gave anyone. Not as optimistic as
she might have once been.

He was quite concerned about the young woman having asked around
discretely. He knew more of her story now and the cause of her
sadness. Being a dragon rider brought with it a certain fatalistic
attitude. But she was hold raised where 'dangers dragon braved' were
not the normal conditions of life. She was hanging on to the memory of
a lost loved one in a way that was very holder like.

He couldn't blame her really, love came unexpectedly and in its way
was worth the hurt and loss. "Well that's good," he said

Angshel watched the exchange and wondered what gave his friend that
sadness behind her eyes. For everything she had done for him, he
wished he could help her as well.

Briata managed another small smile, but that light never reached her
eyes. "I should...probably go. My classes will begin soon."

Y'gel smiled back though he could see hers was false. "Alright then,
we'll see you later." He dropped a hand on Angshel's shoulder. "We
need to hurry too or you'll be late for my class!" He gave him a
gentle shove toward the caverns.
