Y'gel

Y'gel
Briata

Briata

Her pain was sharp and Briata jerked to a halt as she passed by, left
almost breathless by the stab of pain. The dragon didn't lash out.
Didn't cry. She didn't move. The closest thing she did to a cry was
a soft, almost mournful moan, a rumble that made Briata quake. The
young weaver stepped forward, first one foot, then the other, until
she drew to the head of the great beast. Her hand reached out,
resting upon the green head, smaller than any other colour, but still
great compared to her. She leaned forward and whispered something,
the whirling eyes tinged with pain, but trained upon the new visitor.

"Hello?" Y'gel said as he approached the green dragon he had been
about to check on. A young woman was with the dragon that he didn't
recognize.

Briata's features contorted, twisted, and then straightened as a voice
penetrated through the thoughts she was sharing. Her hand remained
upon the head, but blue eyes traced a path to the man who spoke and
settled upon him. "She's in pain."

"Yes Aug told me," he said holding up the buckets. "We were just
coming to help with that." His eyebrows twitched. "Wait, how did _you_
know?" he asked looking back and forth between the girl and the
dragon.

The girl hand continued the stroking motions, an attempt to soothe, as
she shook her head. "I just know." She managed a moment later.
Briata's face remain contorted. Poor dragon, though she was more than
happy to see that the healers were attending to her and quickly.

"Well let's see if I can help her then," he smiled at the young woman
so obviously feeling for the injured green. He slathered redwort over
his hands and then began applying the numbweed to her injuries. The
thick hide would take a few moments but should soon begin to feel the
relief.

"How is she now?" he asked after a few minutes.

Briata leaned into the sweet hide, the spicy scent not even the
assault of medicines could overtake. She scritched the eyeridges as
the dragon's eyes whirled a little slower. "Better. She says the
numbweed wears off quickly." The girl straightened, then stared into
one of those large eyes, her expression twisting in response to
something passed on to her.

His eyes narrowed only slightly and he nodded a soft smile lifted the
corners of his mouth. Her answer had confirmed his suspicions. "How
long have you been able to hear dragons?" he asked gently.

"Hm?" It took a moment for the dragonhealer's words to sink in, the
dragon's telling of her worry for her rider distracting her. "Oh.
All my life. I don't remember not hearing them. Every time they came
on sweep..." She trailed off, running her hand over the hide in a
comforting gesture.

}:She is worried for her rider:{ said Aughashyth **Thank you, please
tell her that I just checked and she is doing fine. Her leg will heal
well. Praise her for getting her to the healers so quickly.**

Briata's compassion for the dragon touched him. He knew he felt that
way about each and every one of his charges but it was rare to find in
someone who didn't work with them all the time. "How long have you
been at the Weyr?"

The girl didn't answer right away, rather cocked her head, and she
nodded, then relayed the message to the green, though it was
unnecessary. **Your rider is resting and so should you. Sleep now.
Sleep will help you heal.** Still stroking the great beast, Briata
finally turned back to the healer, a small smile touching upon her
lips. "Nine months." Now that the dragon was calmer, she took some
time to study the older man. "I am Briata." She offered by way of
introduction.

"Well met, Briata," he answered warmly. "I am Y'gel, the
Werydragonhealer." She couldn't be much older than his own daughter.
He nodded "You are welcome here anytime you wish. Our biggest
challenge is communication at times." he'd washed the medication off
his hands while they talked and now looked up affectionately at the
beautiful green as she finally closed the slowly whirling
gray/lavender eyes that were now showing tinges of a peaceful green.
"Have you thought about dragon healing as a craft?" She was a bit old
to begin a craft but she had something very rare, a gift.

"I am already crafting. I am currently a weaver." Briata turned so
that her knots upon her shoulder were visible, revealing that she was
a senior apprentice. She glances over at the dragon, the creature
falling into slumber. "I suppose this is a craft I could have gone
into."

"Well, our loss then," he smiled. "But you really are welcome here, anytime."

Briata nodded slowly, eyes drifting down in thought. When they rise
again to meet the older man's gaze once more, she asks, "Perhaps I
could ask to be put here after Threadfall? To help?"

"I think that would be a great idea." He smiled "We can used all the
help we can get."
