Description: Kjarliheth's Mating flight collects the usual chasers and some new faces.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 10 of Turn 5
Kjarliheth hissed and preened at the males gathering around her. She
was the glowing emerald green prize and knew it.
Aileyan watched her dragon's pre-Flight antics and observed the male
dragons. She deliberately ignored their riders. There were blues and
more than a good share of browns and bronzes. Aileyan recongnized most
of the dragons, and wondered if it was good sign or bad. It's like
Kjarliheth had collected a regular group of suitors. There was
Galerith's dark blue shape, he was large for a blue and Nirreth's
bronze hide glittering in sun. He darfwed a smaller blue next to him.
One with midday-blue skin, was it Janneth? There was Ankioth, he was
actually slightly bigger than the Weyrleader's bronze. Aileyan sighed.
Well, she couldn't prevent anyone giving a chase. Just because she
didn't like the rider, didn't mean that the dragons didn't like each
other. Dragons and riders were still arriving, although Aileyan sensed
that Kjarliheth was ready to take to the air any moment now.
Tonuth gathered with the rest of the male dragons watching the glowing
green. His eyes whorled with desire and he communicated his intent to
give chase. D'ale ran from the dining area along with several others
and moved into the loose gathering around the rider. She looked young
to him but quite delicious nonetheless.
G'nir eyed the petite greenrider with possessive attitude. If the
rumours were correct, she was no longer together with U'kaiah. Perhaps
Nirreth would win this time and he would have the lovely girl for himself.
Though they had not slept together, it was not because U'kaiah had
forgotten the sweet little greenrider. She was the one who had wanted
to end things, not him. And he wanted to run his hands and lips over
her body, to wake up beside her again, to tuck her into the cook of his
arm and hold her close. If he could will Kalamath forward, he would
with all his strength. His eyes were locked on her with determination.
He would have her again!
But there was a younger bronzerider who joined the group, heart pounding
from more than just the excitement of the Flight. J'nev wanted Aileyan.
There had always been something about Aileyan that had drawn him to
her. He had been so jealous when she had chosen U'kaiah over him, when
she had dismissed his advances like flicking away a piece of dust. She
had never even given him a _chance_! He prove himself now. He would
beat U'kaiah, beat all those other bronzeriders, and prove that he, and
Ankioth, were worth something after all.
Kjarliheth decided that she now had everyones undivided attention and
admiration and it was _time_. She launched into the air with
challenging shriek. Her glowing, green shape rose to the clouds fast.
Aileyan's eyes followed her and she let her mind merge with her.
Torerath leaped into the air after the glowing green dart crooning his
intent as he rose on a lucky thermal. And then he began to climb the
sky. Rapidly. Wings scooped massive bursts of air, surging upward
toward Kjarliheth with sweeping strokes of his wings. He wanted to
possess the green beauty. His desire fired into D'ale like a gale
force wind blending them and chasing after the fleet prize.
Kjarliheth darted into the clouds. She found an air current that gave
her an edge. She got long ahead of her chasers. She knew she couldn't
keep it up for long, but while she could, she took full advantage of
her speed.
Galerith was biding his time patiently. The speed she flew, she would
tire quickly and the experienced blue knew it.
Kjarliheth started to consider her options. Blues she dismissed out of
hand. She favourite bronzes if possible, or browns. Torerath? She
didn't know him. Kalamath, he had won several times, maybe someone
else this time. Nirreth was nice but he already had a mate and she
didn't know if Genith was jelous type. Ankioth was nice one too,
handsome young bronze but he yet to have to prove himself.
Brown Torerath delighted in her aerobatics and rather than try an
match her used his usual tactic of trying to be where he thought she
was going. Ultimately this worked for him more times than not and this
green was agile as she spun and wove through the sky.
}:Lovely Kjarliheth:{ he called. His bass tones cajoling trying to
persuade the beautiful green to choose him. This one was not fresh
from the egg and had skills at evading capture. Her flirtation only
enhanced his anticipation. D'ale edged closer.
):Come fly with me again, pretty green,:{ Kalamath crooned coaxingly as
his rider on the ground reached his fingers out to brush against the
greenrider in the middle of their circle. They both wanted to win this
Flight and claim their prize.
Ankioth didn't use words to try to entice Kjarliheth closer. He knew it
was strength and speed that would ultimately win the day. He couldn't
out-talk the older bronzeriders, but he might outlast them!
Kjarliheth's muscles had started to burn with the exhaustion. Nirreth
came close but she still managed a burst of speed that took her away
from him, and to the path of another bronze!
With a triumphant bugle Ankioth twisted his body and caught the green
before she could shy away from him. Spreading his wings, the young
bronze slowed their descent as he entwined his body with hers, even as
J'nev reached out and claimed Aileyan as his prize.
Torerath let out a frustrated bugle and turned away to glide back toward
the Weyr. D'ale stepped back from Kjarliheth's rider and turned to
find an expectant and willing face turned up to his. His lips crushed
down on hers and he picked her up to find the nearby area and release
the pent up reactions to his lifemate's frustration.
}: It was so close! :{ Nirreth trumpeted with frustration and turned
back home. On the ground, G'nir turned away from the petite greenrider and
scanned the willing, wating women (and some men). He spotted a one who
pleased his eye and crooked a finger for her.
Sh'lua shrugged off the disappointment. He saw a familiar face among the
spectators. "Hey, I haven't seen you awhile.Been well?" he asked with a
grin and wrapped his arms around her waist.
U'kaiah watched with disappointment as J'nev pulled Aileyan off towards
the Flight room. }:I tried,:{ Kalamath said, obviously weary from the
persuit.
**It's all right, boy,** his rider assured him already feeling hands
pulling at him. She might not be the one he wanted, but losers were
rarely choosers. **Perhaps it's for the best.**
