Description: U'das and Zackariath take a hit during the Fall.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 12 of Turn 5
U'das quickly shrugged his flight jacket off, cursing. It had a gaping hole
in the back. He let it flop to ground, it was goner anyway. He turned his
attention to Zack.
He had not seen it coming. Zackariath had, but a bronze just wasn't as good
at turning than a green. They had been in half-turn, when U'das felt the
Thread brush against his left shoulder-blade and the roll to Zack's back.
They /betweened/. Because they had entered it in such an odd angle, they
came back out unbalanced and Zack had strained his wing. The bad wing. It
was always the same wing.
The Score on Zack didn't look bad and he sighed with relief. Only two
hand-spans wide and shallow. He waived to the dragonhealer.
"Coming!" M'van called as he grabbed his kit after reassuring a greenrider
that she would soon be back in the air.
U'das was painfully aware it wasn't just sweat that was tickling down his
back.
"Wingleader," said M'van politely as he began a rapid assesment of the
situation. The threadscore didn't look too deep on the bronze, which was a
relief, but he'd still need to examine it. "May I?" he asked as he poured
out some redwort solution into a bowl from his kit to cleanse his hands.
"Sure. Check out his wing too. We came out of /between/ in bad position and
he had to do one of those jerky manouvers to correct his balance. I felt him
hurt his wing," U'das replied, worry colouring his voice.
"I'll deal with it," the dragonhealer told him as he gently began an
examination of what looked like a minor threadscore. "I'll put some
numbweed
on here to ease the pain, and a light dressing, it'll need checking daily."
Moving to the wing, M'van said, "Can you ask him to very gently and slowly
extend his wing so I can examine it? If he feels any pain, stop and I'll
check it there and then."
U'das nodded. This was all too familiar routine for them. His eyes glaced
when he contacted Zackariath. The bronze's wing started to extend slowly.
He
got it almost fully extentended before the pain forced him to stop.
"That's how far he can open his wing," U'das told M'van.
"I'm just going to check along the muscle from his shoulder down the side
here. I need to know if it feels painful, or tender," M'van stopped
talking
to allow his fingers to do the work.
"All right," U'das said.
M'van was quick and gentle. "I think there may be a possible sprain here."
"I thought so," U'das said.
"I'll need to check it again tomorrow, after some of the soreness has eased,
but it looks like you pair are going to be grounded for at least 10 days,
maybe two seven days."
"All right," the bronzerider nodded. What else one could do? A healer was
tugging his sleeve, wanting to treat his Score.
"Is that all?" he aske M'van, waiving the healer off for a moment.
"No flying without checking with myself or any of the dragonhealers, if he's
hungry, butcher a herdbeast or two for him."
U'das nodded. It was almost eeringly familiar to him "Again and again," he
muttered darkly.
"He'll be fine here, get yourself seen to so that you can help him."
"Yes, I will. Thank's M'van," U'das said. The healer was already there
again, and scowling at him.
"Yes, yes, I'm coming," he told him.
