Description: K'reyl spots an error in U'das' report.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 13 of Turn 5
The Weyrleader studied the report on his desk one more time. It didn't look
like the normal reports he got, something was off, but he wasn't sure what.
}:Erdenth, please can you ask Zackariath to ask his rider to come and see me
when he has a moment?:{
}: He will come shortly :{ Zackariath replied within a moments. Less
than a quarter candlemark later U'das knocked the Weyrleader's door.
"Come in," came the prompt reply. K'reyel had taken a moment to get a pot of
klah and some pastries sent up, and he was pouring himself a drink. "Have a
drink if you want one."
"Thank's, K'reyel," U'das replied. He took a seat and the offered
klah. "So, what's up, Weyrleader?"
"Is this right?" K'reyel pushed the hide over the desk towards U'das. "Those
figures don't seem to add up."
"Let me see," U'das said and pulled the hide to him. He peered the
numbers, but they were just a blur. "Shards, I didn't take my reading
glasses," he said. "Can you wait till I fetch them?" He offered an
apologetic grin.
"Not a problem," the Weyrleader told him.
It didn't take U'das long to return with glasses on his nose. "Let's
see about those reports."
He picked up the hides and inspected them.
"The figures at the bottom, they don't seem quite right," commented K'reyel
as he watched U'das with the hides.
"I see that," U'das muttered, and compared the numbers. "Shards, seems
like I've done a error, right there," he said with an embarrassed
tone, and pointed a line on the hide. "The numbers' been reversed."
"It happens to us all, especially if you are doing these things quickly, or
when you are tired." K'reyel was relieved that it sounded like a simple
error that anyone could have made. "If you change those around, then it adds
up correctly."
"I'll correct it right away," U'das said, still embarrassed.
"Don't worry about it," K'reyel told him as he passed over a pen and ink
pot. "It could just as easily have been me who made the error."
"Yes, but it was me. I try not to make a habit of it," U'das said. He
grinned and started to correct the numbers. The result was bit messy
(he had to cross over the numbers and write over them), but readable
and most importantly, now it matched.
"Thanks for that," there was relief in the words that it was just a simple
maths error and nothing more.
