U'das leaned against the Weyr's doorframe. "I didn't know if I should offer my condolences, congratulate you or commissarete, so I brought this instead," he pulled out a bottle he had been hiding behind his back.
K'sedel grinned, although it was a bit forced. It wasn't the first time he'd lost the Weyrleadership, but to his son, somehow that hurt a little more. "A drink would be welcome."
U'das walked further in. "It's rum, a Far Islandian specialty. Bit stronger than wine."
"Sounds perfect to me," K'sedel gestured to a seat as he rose to get some glasses., which he placed on a table near both of the men.
"Your own son," U'das remarked and shook his head ruefully.
"I knew his bronze would try," K'sedel said ruefully. "Just I don't think anyone expected him to try that hard."
"I'm suddenly glad that U'sel is not living in a same weyr," U'das said.
His son U'sel was a bronzerider too. He poured them drinks.
"U'sel?" asked K'sedel as he reached for the drink.
"My eldest son. You wouldn't have met him, he is currently a wingleader at Telgar Weyr."
"Ahh, well at least my eldest won't be wanting to replace his brother," said K'sedel after a sip of the rum. "This is good stuff."
U'das nodded and sipped from his glass. "So, what are you going to do now?
Torrent with is mine, you can't have it, not without a fight." Althoug his tone was light, he was quite serious about it.
"K'reyel's going to need a 'second who knows what he's doing." K'sedel was quite serious about that.
"Second? You?" U'das sounded incredilous.
"I can't transfer out without Ciara and she doesn't want to go. Plus K'reyel's weyrmate went into labour a month early. My grandson is doing well, but he needs his parents."
U'das nodded. He could understand why he wanted to stay, and there weren't any open wingleader's spots. But from Weyrleader to a Second? Well, that was his choice.
"It isn't ideal at all, but K'reyel needs to be there for Mai and their son.
And as she had a surgical delivery it could be the only one they have."
"So, basically _you are_ leading, while he looks after his family," U'das said. He grinned.
"For the moment, and next time Tabarnith rises, who knows who she'll choose."
"Yes, she does like to spring surprises on us," U'das said.
"It could be you again next time."
The bald bronzerider just shrugged. If it happened, it happened, no use of pondering it ahead. It would be many months untill the gold would rise again.
"In the meantime, lets enjoy a drink or two."
"Well, that's why I'm here," U'das grinned widely.
