Talryne

Talryne
N'vanik

N'vanik

After a quick knock, N'vanik opened the door and walked in. "Hey, Tal, I was wondering--" he froze when he saw who was on the couch. Fan . .
.flaming . . .tastic. "Great," he said in a low voice, feeling his gut twist.

"Shhhh." U'kaiah continued to run his fingers through Talryne's hair, hoping the stead rhythm would pacify her in case the noise started to wake her. "She's sleeping."

N'vanik was sure fire was going to erupt along his skin at any second.
Faranth, seeing them together like that was like a nightmare. "She's okay?" he whispered roughly. There was a chance something had happened.
Tal was still having a rough time being around other people. U'kaiah might have--**been doing _my_ job.**

U'kaiah wasn't about to tell him that she had gotten upset when she told him about her feelings for the other bronzerider. He was sure those were thoughts she didn't want him to know. Not from _him_. "Yeah, she's fine. We were just fooling around and then she fell asleep. She was pretty worn out."

He tried to make the question sound light, but it came out as a growl instead. "Fooling around?" Tal could make her own decisions, she could do whatever she wanted to. But why, _why_ did it have to be U'kaiah?

"Well, yeah, just... messing around... You know, making her happy." After all, if anyone needed a little happiness right now, it was Talryne. He didn't mind making a fool of himself in front of her if that was what it took to get her to smile. The sound of their voices made Talryne stir restlessly, though she didn't open her eyes. Instead she made a sleepy sound and tucked her hand under her chin. "'time is it?"

N'vanik felt other emotions now clashing with his anger. And then he felt a wash of panic as his dragon was woken by his distress.

}:N'vanik! What's wrong?:{
**U'kaiah is with Tal.**

}:Uh-oh.:{ His dragon's response was almost enough to make him laugh. The corner of N'vanik's mouth twitched. "Almost dinner," he told Talryne quietly.

"I fell aslee..." Talryne's brain caught up with her mouth as she realized N'vanik's voice hadn't come from the warm body she was curled up against. Her eyes popped open as her words trailed off, and she shifted her eyes from U'kaiah to N'vanik. **Uh-oh.**

U'kaiah gave her an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry we woke you." "It's all right." She slid carefully out of his arms and back to the other side of the couch before smiling nervously at N'vanik. "Hello."

For once he didn't feel like smiling back. "I didn't know you had company." It didn't come out angry. It came out flat, dull.

Pain showed on her face before she could hide it, and her smile faded.
"U'kaiah came by to visit." She had to fight down the panic that she'd thought was behind her--the irrational fear that she'd make N'vanik unhappy somehow and he'd abandon her. Her look of pain hurt worse than finding them together had. "It's okay, Tal," N'vanik said. He wanted to hold her, but he wouldn't. Not with U'kaiah there.

"You know," U'kaiah cleared his throat, looking around for his discarded shirt, "I should probably get going. I have a lot of hidework to do to tonight..."

Talryne almost didn't want him to leave--not when things were likely to get even more awkward. But saying _that_ wasn't going to make N'vanik look any happier. So she reached out to squeeze U'kaiah's hand and tried to remind herself that she hadn't done anything wrong. "Thank you for coming to see me. I'll see you sometime in the next few days, right?"

"Of course you will," he assured her. Though he wanted to reach out and hug her, he thought it best not to make things worse. It was obvious his presence wasn't welcome any longer. "Good night."
