N'vanik

N'vanik

"What did she say to you?" N'vanik asked, turning toward his bronze.

}:I'm not going to say. She didn't mean for me to hear it.:{

"C'mon, just tell me." It might help him figure out what went wrong.

Loseth snorted. }:You tell me not to tell her things. And I don't.:{

"But you're _my_ dragon," N'vanik protested. He walked over and slumped against Loseth's warm flank. "I'm sorry. I'm not mad at you." He sighed, rubbing a hand along his lifemate's hide. "I just wish things weren't so sharding confusing."

The bronze turned eyes whirling with a hint of worry on his rider. }:Sometimes you're confused because you fight what you feel and try not to think about it. What you feel is not a bad thing.:{

"But it scares me. You know that." He'd had brief conversations with Loseth about this before.

}:You shouldn't be so afraid. You're my rider. You should be brave!:{

N'vanik chuckled and reached out to stroke his muzzle. **I love you, Loseth. I love you with everything I have.** The bronze crooned. **You saved me and you made me strong.**

}:Maybe Talryne is saving you too?:{

N'vanik frowned and his hand stilled. "Saving me? From what?"

}:From being alone,:{ Loseth replied.

"I'm not alone." N'vanik rubbed his dragon's muzzle again. '"I have you."

Loseth nuzzled his rider. }:You need people, too, N'vanik. Like Solith's rider, and Nyith's. But they don't make you feel like Talryne does.:{

N'vanik snorted. "Solith's rider _definitely_ doesn't." But he knew what his dragon meant. He hated to admit it, but sometimes he did need other people. And he'd never felt about anyone the way he felt about Tal. Before he could think too much about that, he backed away from the subject. **Did I do something to make her run away?**

}:She's confused, like you.:{

"I shouldn't have pushed her."

Loseth rumbled his version of a frustrated sigh. When N'vanik was like this, it was better to change the subject. }:Are you going to eat?:{

N'vanik glanced at the table. Shards. "I'm not hungry."

}:Then will you read to me?:{

"Alright, you overgrown hatchling." N'vanik managed a small smile and stood. He'd left the book he was currently reading on the bedside table. Crossing the main room, he glanced at the table again and saw the scarf Tal had made him draped over the back of his chair. **She isn't coming back tonight.** He pushed the thought away and went on into the sleeping room. Grabbing the book from the table, he turned and looked at the bed for a moment before pulling off one of the furs. He was going to sleep with Loseth tonight.

Passing through the main room again, he stopped and looked over at the scarf. **Oh, shells.** He went over and pulled it from the chair, taking it with him back to Loseth's couch. N'vanik sat down and wrapped the fur around him, settling himself against Loseth's shoulder. He moved to pick up the book, but his eyes settled on the scarf again. **It's just a _scarf_ dimglow!** But Tal had made it for him, had obviously put thought into it, and after what had happened tonight it seemed to have extra meaning to it. He lifted the scarf to wrap it around his neck and paused, holding it to his nose. It smelled like her.

N'vanik sighed. **Why does she make me feel like this?**

}:I don't think you want me to answer that.:{

Loseth was right, N'vanik didn't want to hear it. He was still too afraid of the answer.
