K'sedel

K'sedel

Tsaera breathed a sigh of relief as she closed the Hatching Cavern doors behind herself - and locked them. Tabanirth might be relatively well behaved for a brooding gold dragon but it made no sense to tempt those eagerly watching for a glimpse of speckled Egg with unlocked doors - neither the interloper nor the queen dragon would be happy if someone actually _did_ sneak a peek. Another week or so and Tabanirth would be happy to let admirers in - as long as they kept a respectful distance. The keys jingled merrily on her belt as she wandered down the hall toward her weyr and debated a cool bath versus knocking on K'sedel's door.

The dilemma was solved for her when she heard the Weyrleader call her name from behind. Tsaera turned to see him coming down the hall after her. "Hey there. Fancy meeting you here. It's almost as if we lived next to each other."

"Well, now you come to mention it..." he joked. "How's Tabanirth doing?"

Tsaera sighed and fell into step beside him. "I'll be happy when those eggs harden a bit more. She's needy and irritable. Ah well.
This, too, will pass."

"We'll need candidates for them when that happens."

"I know. I was going over the Search inquiries yesterday and it seems that we've got a bit of a dearth of new candidates coming in. We should be all right, though, what with the group that was passed over last Hatching." Vilarth's last Clutch had been so small, the candidates outnumbered the eggs by an extraordinary amount.

"I asked R'sedel to keep an eye out, whether he was riding Search or not." The more likely boys or girls that they could bring into the Weyr, the happier he'd be.

"With eggs on the Sands, I'm sure that all the Searchriders are. But it's still a good reminder; perhaps you could speak with all of them about that?"

"I'll organize it, and I'll make sure U'das speaks to the ones in his Wing."

The Weyrwoman shrugged. "It doesn't need to be anything formal. We've got enough candidates right now to not have to worry, but a few extra never hurt. At least this time we have a proper Clutch on the Sands."

"We do, and I'm willing to bet that there will be at least one bronze in there."

"At least!" And what a relief that was! Not that Tsaera had thought that she and Tabanirth would have a paltry Clutch... well, no smaller than usual. Both she and the gold dragon were getting older, and while she had hit menopause, Tabanirth's clutches were merely a bit smaller than a younger gold's. Although they were still larger than before the Pass began... "How is Ciara?"

"Wishing that the baby was here already. She says she's uncomfortable and just wants to hold the baby."

Tsaera smiled. "Or rather, wanting to have the _option_ of holding the baby. I remember being in my final few weeks. It's not fun. You just want it to be over with."

"Well soon we'll have a new son or daughter."

"Yes, you will." Which reminded her... she ought to pick something up as a baby gift. But what? They reached Tsaera's weyr door and the Weyrwoman stopped with her hand on the knob. "I'll keep you updated on the candidate situation if you like, but don't be too concerned about it. And if you'll excuse me, after spending all that time cooped up with Tabanirth on the Sands, I am in desperate need of a bath. Good night, K'sedel."

"Sleep well," he said fondly. "Nikornath said he will fetch something for Tabanirth to eat, so you needn't worry about her, just relax."

"Thank you." Tsaera gave him a quick peck on the cheek, and then slipped into her weyr, thoughts fixed firmly on a bath and nothing else.
