Description: Tymborikath’s babies eat food for the very first time
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 13, day 20 of Turn 12
“Come one, come all, let’s get these babies fed!” S’ros called to the parade of oncoming newly Impressed weyrlings and their gooey dragons. “Today, you've all got the luxury of pre-cut meat! Enjoy it, because whoo, cutting up meat is harder than you think it is. Unless you were already a butcher before this. Then you probably already have a pretty good idea.
“Each bucket is filled with chunks conveniently sized for your dragon. Make sure they chew the best they can! It’s very important, or else we wouldn’t harass you about it. If you have any questions, I’ll be here" hello, hi, I’m S’ros. You’re my first class, did I mention that? J’nic and Viseya have your back as well, of course. I’m sure they're around here somewhere" oh, look, there they are. Wave, say hi. They’ll probably be around to introduce themselves while you’re eating, too.
“_Do_ you have any questions?”
Tiareth, being the first dragon hatched, was also the first to arrive. She sniffed the air prettily, then her eyes arrowed in on a meat bucket. }: There. Ignore the rambling one. There is our destination, :{ she said to her chosen Felorin.
“No questions,” Felorin answered airily as she and Tiareth swept past S’ros. Truthfully, Felorin felt as though she was floating, but she kept it to herself, allowing only Tiareth to sense the wonderment radiating within her. It was only minimally muted as Felorin began to pick through the bloody morsels as she delicately fed Tiareth, who was definitely not going to get any messier by eating with haste. Only a few minutes together and it was clear that this pair was going to be the darlings of the clutch.
}:We're going to go over _there_.:{ Roxarith declared, head held high and marching for a feeding bucket that was a respectable distance from Melciroth. Wherever the other bronze wound up. }:Hurry up, Mine, I'm hungry!!:{
Tathalin, no he was T'thalin now, hastened to the right bucket, picking it up, offering the first bite. He… he couldn't believe it. Finally… finally, no one could say he didn’t belong somewhere. “I… No questions, sir.”
Roxarith snorted. }:Of course you belong here. With me. Feeding me.:{
Aydhara was on the verge of tears. Happy, wonderful, excited, elated tears, because Rath hadn't left her personal space since he headbutted her and his warm, loving presence in her mind was everything she'd dreamed and more. She almost didn't catch S'ros' speech, as if she hadn't been a candidate under J'nic and Viseya for _turns_ now and a candidate at High Reaches even before that, and almost didn't have the presence to roll her eyes.
But roll her eyes she did as she grabbed a bucket and found a spot to set it down. Rath eyed it excitedly, though he didn't move to snatch it out of her hands. He wanted to, boy did he want to-- but he already knew she wouldn't like that.
}: Do you not like him? :{ He asked, looking back at the new Weyrlingmaster Third. An image of the man flitted through Aydhara's mind. The question had no judgement to it; just curiosity.
Aydhara wrinkled her nose, thinking about how her family would get that faraway look when they 'talked' to their dragons. **He's a weenie.** She thought.
}: Oh. What's a weenie?:{
**Like a floppy sausage.**
}: Well that doesn't sound good.:{ Rath agreed, though it was clear through their bond that he didn't really understand. He didn't have to understand, for he knew for a fact that Aydhara knew everything. }: What about everyone else?:{
"I love you so much." Aydhara said out loud. She dropped to her knees and pulled him into a tight hug. Rath's little rumble came out more like a purr. When she pulled back, she rubbed her eyes and finally grabbed a fistful of freshly cut meat. **Tathalin is a weenie too. You don't let that bronze tell you what to do.**
}: Roxarith. :{ Rath supplied helpfully. A weenie. He got it.
It was stubbornness more than strength that helped Cirina carry Saejith all the way to where the new hatchlings were being fed, and she knew her arms would be sore in the morning. Still, the only reason she set him down was that she couldn’t possibly carry both him and a bucket of meat, and the blue’s rumbling stomach was a more pressing concern than this injured leg.
“Cirina?” Viseya’s normally mild expression twisted into shock as the redheaded girl came in, “Does your mother know you’re here?” The weyrlingmaster second regretted it as soon as she saw the stricken expression on the teen’s face. “Hey, no, don’t worry about it. We’ll get things sorted.”
Her mother. What was her mother going to say when Cirina just didn’t come home tomorrow? Surely she would be disappointed. And her friends and-
}:I can’t wait to meet them all.:{ Saejith’s bright words brought her out of it, and his headbutt against her hip sent her stumbling towards the buckets of meat again.
Mindful of not saying anything else potentially upsetting, Viseya handed Cirina one of the buckets, and gave her a smile. “Take him over there and start feeding him. We’ll have someone stop by to look at that leg shortly, but it looks like just a scratch.”
Nodding, Cirina took a deep, calming breath, and grabbed the bucket tightly in both hands, “Come on Saejith. Let’s find- oh, there’s Aydhara. Aydhara!”
Without waiting for her to lead the way, Saejith trotted over, eyeing Rath for a moment before saying primly, }:I told you I didn’t want that one.:{
}: Aydhara. :{ Rath said in a similarly prim tone. }: I would like to rage.:{ He didn't wait for an answer and lunged at Saejith.
**You would-** For a split second Aydhara looked confused, then horrified. "Rath, no!"
“Don’t you dare bully him anymore!” Cirina shrieked, shoving herself between the two blues. “You are going to be friends!”
Saejith ducked his head so he was looking between Cirina’s legs while hiding behind her, }:You have bad manners.:{
Rath tried to prowl around Cirina to get at Saejith, a low growl rumbling in his throat. }: You're such a weenie! :{
Aydhara couldn't help but laugh. No. That wasn't the right response. "Rath, you come back here right now!" She said without nearly as much authority and she should, though she took Cirina's example and used her body to bully the blue back towards his bucket. Rath awkwardly hopped backwards, still glaring over at Saejith. "Saejith has his own rider and his own bucket."
}:I’m not a weenie!:{ To Cirina, Saejith said, }:What’s a weenie?:{
Cirina sighed. **Just eat your meat.**
Obediently, Saejith sat down in front of her. Anyone watching might notice the way the little blue very precisely mimicked Digger, who was sitting next to the bucket chirping for treats.
J’nic had been about to intervene but was relieved when things settled down between the two blues. Instead, he went to Viseya, asking in a low voice, “You know the new girl? Who is she?”
“Only a little,” Viseya said, “she’s from River Bluff. I knew her mother there; we’re both Harper trained. Last I heard, Ciara was at Dolphin Cove, I assume Cirina was there.”
At least she was weyrbred. That would make things easier. “Was she a Candidate?” he asked.
“I’m pretty sure she was,” Viseya said. “I can check with the weyrlingstaff over at Dolphin Cove later,” she nodded over to where the girl was now feeding Saejith one chunk of meat at a time. “She hasn’t asked any questions, so I assume she knows the bare minimum- keep the babies from choking.”
“Ok, good,” J’nic said, relieved. He moved to the other side of the room, ready to help out if anything came up.
S’ros sidled up to his superiors momentarily while they spoke to make sure he did not need to know what they were talking about" new girl, Dolphin Cove. Very important, he was sure, but probably nothing he needed to worry about.
He had seen that look of a feline about to pounce in J'nic, too, when the two little ones had been ready to tussle again, and he had been more than glad not to have to even think about being the one to try to convince them not to fight. He doubted Iskandreth would have been able to, either.
