I'mrei was on cloud nine. He'd been practically floating through his
chores and work ever since Yethber's party. Eismuth had begun blocking
his thoughts since he insisted on reliving the kissing and heavy
petting that had happened in his weyr with K'don afterwards.

}:Just imagine if I relived every time I let a blue rub my neck,:{
she'd said with the mental equivalent of an eyeroll.

He'd taken extra care with his hair that morning, making sure that
every white-blonde strand was smoothed to perfection before leaving
the weyr. If he hadn't been so concentrated on the previous evening,
he might have noted the emerald glow to Eismuth's normally dusky
hide... but he didn't.

Walking into the dragon infirmary, he was immediately on the lookout
for K'don. A part of him was a little nervous to see the brownrider.
What if things were awkward between them now? Sometimes things changed
between the dark of night and the brightly lit reality of day.

"Good morning!" K'don was having no such complex thoughts. As far as
he was concerned, they had a wonderful night together, and there was
nothing to worry about. Of course, neither he nor Maciath noticed
Eismuth's hide. They could be terribly oblivious to these things.

"Did you hear about poor Yethber?" I'mrei asked, pleased to have a
juicy tidbit of gossip.

"Oh, no! What happened?" K'don had completely forgotten that she had
gotten in trouble. He had been so distracted by... well, other things.

"They threatened to _kick her out_ of the apprentices if she did
something like that again. It's a good thing we got in a little dance
while we could." I'mrei could still see in his mind's eye how
gloriously free K'don had seemed while they danced.

K'don covered his mouth with his hands, but his eyes showed just how
aggrieved he was for Yethber.

"By the Egg... I... I'll have to get her a gift to apologize," he
said. "But..." He lowered his hands. "Maybe we could dance again
anyway?"

I'mrei didn't feel the least bit sorry for Yethber. She had made her
own choices. Choices had consequences. Fortunately for I'mrei, the
choices he'd made with K'don had wonderful consequences.

"I would love to dance with you again, among other things," the
greenrider said with a smile.

That distracted K'don quickly enough from Yethber that he completely
forgot about her.

"I like other things." He stepped a little closer, but then he looked
around and reconsidered whether kissing at work was a good idea. "Do
you have any plans today?"

I'mrei considered _nothing_ about being at work and instead edged even
closer to K'don so there was scarcely any space between them. "No. I
had sweeps this morning, and after this shift, I'm free."

"This is going to feel like a very long shift." K'don sneaked in one
little kiss. As a treat.

"The longest," I'mrei sighed.

~*~

The minutes crept by. There were times that I'mrei swore the
timekeeper was broken. When he could take it no more, the young
greenrider hurriedly finished with his tasks and then paced outside
the infirmary entrance.

And then....

**Eismuth!** The sudden rush of lust, warmth, and adrenaline that
crashed over his consciousness made I'mrei stagger.

}:Yes! Now!:{ The green hissed at her rider's unspoken questions as
she roared her challenge to the males of the Weyr.

}:Eismuth rises,:{ said Maciath to K'don.

**Oh.** K'don was not sure how to feel about that. They certainly
could hardly spend the afternoon smooching if Im'rei was busy with...
well, that.

}:I upset you when I went after Santhiath,:{ said Maciath. }:I would
truly, dearly like to go after Eismuth. But... I will take myself away
somewhere else, somewhere safe if you do not wish for it.:{

**I...**

}:You must choose quickly, or I shall no longer be fit to stand
against the itch to fly her...:{

**What if I hurt him? I've never done this before... ... ... Mash?**

The decision had been made for him.

Run. Run away from the flight rooms.

**I can't. What if Mash wins?**

Run away. You don't know what you're doing. You can't satisfy him.

Despite the conflicted urgings of his own mind, K'don found that his
_body_ had not been listening. There. Im'rei was there, and K'don was
chasing him.

"I-I'mrei? I..." K'don reached out to take his hand.

I'mrei turned at the sound of his name, but he was having a hard time
focusing on K'don. "What?"

"Maciath is going to chase Eismuth," he said. "Is... Is that all
right? Should we go? Should I go? I don't know what to do." He felt
like his fingers were going numb.

"If you win, you'll know," I'mrei guaranteed, but his cheeks were
flushed and he could barely think straight as he made the final step
into the flight room.

- - -

Catching I'mrei was like catching lightning in a bottle. Electric.

Powerful. Glass-shattering.

"I thought he would never chase, you know. This is my very first
flight. And my very first win. Shells, but I'm glad it was you."

Ç'pier rolled over to grin at I'mrei like a wild feline.

"You wanna go again?"

I'mrei's toothy grin matched C'pier's. "Of course I do." It was not
his _first_ flight, but it was his _second_ and C'pier had been a much
better catcher than his first flight.

- - -

}:I... I am sorry I made you do this again.:{

K'don did not much care for the hidey-hole he had found to escape the
other chasers. Really, none of them would have bothered him, but he
did not know what he himself would have done if he had let himself
touch any of them.

He struggled to catch his breath. Why did he feel this way? It was not
as though he was opposed to the idea of sex. Strictly speaking, he
rarely thought of it at all. He just simply... had no interest. But
when Maciath chased, it made his body respond. And every time so far,
it had raised up some kind of panic within him.

All twice, anyway.

}:I truly thought I would win. I thought you would have wanted to be
the one to take him.:{

**No. I just. I mean. I don't want to _take_ anyone... It might be
different to... I mean, I really liked kissing him. Especially because
it made him happy... I want to make him happy, but... I don't know
anything about how to do that. Not that way, anyway.**

}:I will not go after her again.:{

**No. Don't-- I mean... You can chase her. I just... I need to... know
how to catch _him_.**

}:You are shivering.:{

**I'll be all right.**

}:Are you going to come out of the hidey-hole?:{

**Eventually.**
