Description: N'kevyn invites J'nic to join a card game he's organizing.
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 2, day 21 of Turn 12
N'kevyn had hoped a leisurely walk by the weyrling barracks that afternoon would give him a chance to catch sight of his son at practice, but apparently the weyrlings were off elsewhere doing whatever was on their agenda at the moment. He wasn't disappointed when he instead caught sight of the weyrlingmaster third, though. He didn't seem to be actively busy with a class, so N'kevyn headed over.
"J'nic, I was meaning to find you to see if you were free for a card game next week. I'm trying to put one together." It wasn't a lie, though he'd expected to catch the man at the dining hall rather than seeking him out where he was working.
J'nic had been thinking about the next day's drills and it took him a few seconds to place N'kevyn and absorb what he said. He finally said, "A card game? I can't say I'm a very good player, but I enjoy the company. So, as long as you're not looking for something too competitive..." He had not spent much time with the bronzerider but liked his friendly nature. "Were you thinking dragonpoker or something else?"
"Well, if I recruit only the best players, I'll never win. No, I was just looking to set up a friendly game," N'kevyn said easily. "Poker was the plan, but I'd be open to anything if there's a more popular game here. Figured it was time to really settle in. I've been here long enough."
"I've been here for over a Turn but haven't done much outside of working with the weyrlings," the greenrider admitted. "I can't say I know of any games specific to the area. I can check with my weyrmate though. He and some of the other crafters get together every few sevendays, but I think those gatherings are more to grab a drink than anything else."
"Well, clearly it's time to start. I'm just looking for somee socialization, truthfully. Aydhan keeps threatening to set up play dates like when the children were toddlers," N'kevyn chuckled. "I'd prefer something where I don't have to worry people are only there to impress my wife." Well, not that that wasn't always a risk. "If you have any other suggestions for someone who might be interested, I'm all ears."
The greenrider thought for a moment. "I don't know him well, but I had a conversation with Y'rim a few sevendays ago and he was friendly. Have you met him before?"
N'kevyn thought for a moment. The past few months had been a flurry of names, but that one didn't ring any particular bells. "No, I don't think I've met him. Or if I did it was in those early days where people were throwing names at me faster than I could possibly remember," he was grinning. "But that's all the more reason to invite him to join the game."
"Will you need any supplies? I think I have a deck of cards somewhere," although J'nic didn't think he'd played since transferring.
"Oh no. I'll tell Aydhan it's a legitimate morale building exercise and I'm sure she can get whatever I need from stores," he winked at the other man. "Well, once I'm sure I've got enough to put a game together, I'll let you know what time?"
"Great. I'm looking forward to it," J'nic said with a smile.
