N'kevyn

N’kevyn let out a groan as he felt Aydhan lean on the bed next to his hips, “No more,” he said pathetically as her weight settled over him. “I’m not going to make it. Just leave me here to die.” When her hand touched the skin of his back, he flinched, and that drew out another hiss of pain from the bronzerider. He tried gamely to push himself back up, but that just made his back seize again and he flopped back down.

"You're aging like fine wine." Aydhan reminded him. She leaned a little to the side to swipe the bottle of warming analgesic from the nightstand. The medicinal smell filled the room as she poured just a little bit onto his back and began to gently rub it in. "Have you considered making Avicath swim around the lake, instead of chasing a green a day? It's not like eating redfruit."

“We made a deal.” N’kevyn groaned again as he felt the first tingle of the salve, “I told him he could chase the greens. Once he’s worked off that gut we’ll go back to the old arrangement. Besides, you want him in good shape for Tym’s next flight, right?” He fumbled behind himself to try to catch her hand and give it a squeeze. “It’s… good practice. Oh right there.”

She squeezed his hand, then pushed it away so she could focus on the bad spot on his back. "Making him do laps would help take the weight off, too. Or volunteering for extra sweep riders. Either of those things won't throw out your back."

“Is Tym going to go chase him out there? You know he swims out and then just bobs. We could do sweeps,” N’kevyn agreed, “but that gets in the way of my busy schedule.” His schedule was not busy. “But we’ll take it under advisement.” He was mostly silent for a few moments, other than groaning as she worked out a tense spot. “Who was in your office? That wasn’t on the schedule.” There’d been an introduction, but he wasn’t ashamed to admit he’d paid it almost no attention.

"Tym most certainly wouldn't. What if we tied a piece of meat to a stick?" She worked the ointment into a particularly tight muscle around the lumbar. No matter how many times she lectured him about lifting her with his knees, tsk. "That was wingrider G'wen, green Neath. He wanted a high-level weyr so I was waiting until one was finished. It's nice you could meet before Avicath throws you into his flightroom."

“I think he’s smart enough to figure out a meat stick. I’m going to have to apologize for that,” N’kevyn sighed. “Maybe I should try a meatstick before I make any more bad impressions,” he joked.

"Oh, please. A Weyrhold is still a Weyr. Neath probably causes more pent-up bronzes than G'wen realizes." Careful not to put too much weight on his back, she climbed forward to kiss his neck, "Though a little token of apology would go a long way to getting Avicath a win."

“Let’s start with an apology so he doesn’t think I’m awful and worry about future flights later,” N’kevyn said. As the salve soaked in and muscles unlocked, he slowly relaxed, and a smirk she couldn’t see but could probably hear in his voice crossed his face. “That desk in your office is very sturdy. The woodcrafters at this Weyr are good.”

"I am impressed by that desk. I didn't even have to specifically commission one." Aydhan teased. "Although I think I heard your 'Telgar Rocks' mug shatter when you swept all my things off it. Hopefully that's the only thing that's broken in there."

“That mug was a collectible!” He moaned, “Are you letting guests use my favorite mugs again?” They were all his favorite mugs. “I almost stole a High Reaches mug back from someone in the Dining Hall the other day.”

"It's good manners, darling. We can get new High Reaches mugs anytime. I bet Barrier Lake Hold has some nice ones. And Turn's End is coming up, you'll get at least one mug from that. Maybe another 'Pern's Okayist Bronze' for Avicath."

“They would never. Aydhara might love Avi more than she loves me,” he said fondly. “I should never have let him babysit.”

"Maybe that's why she's so dead set on a blue. Avicath imprinted on you, Aydhara imprinted on Avicath." Aydhan said with a laugh as she slowly eased herself off N'kevyn's back. "You rest, old man. I have another meeting and my office needs to look like it hasn't been ransacked."

“Who’s the meeting with? Maybe a little ransacked. A scandalous reputation has to start somewhere.” N’kevyn did as ordered, however, relaxing into the bed while the salve soaked in, and in a few moments the bronze snoring outside was echoed by the bronzerider snoring inside.
