There was a certain stillness in his mind when Avicath was trying to be sneaky. It was more obvious than if he’d done nothing at all. **Avi, what are you doing?** He got the impression of the big bronze going perfectly still. Somewhere… He checked through the bronze’s eyes.
**Avi, what are you doing?* He repeated.
}:Nothing.:{
**Avi… why are you skulking around the weyrling barracks?**
}:I want to see the baby.:{
**Avicath, get back here right now. You are not stalking Aberath.**
}:I want to see what’s so great about him,:{ the bronze said sulkily, but he turned away from lurking around the barracks
**I told you, Avi. You will see him soon. Maybe later if he's not too tired.** N’kevyn burst out laughing from his couch in his weyr, and it was funny enough that he went to poke his head into Aydhan’s office, “I just caught Avicath trying to creep around the weyrling barracks. He wanted to see Aberath. Do you remember when he used to stalk you?”
FLASHBACK
Avicath really didn’t see the appeal. The Girl was very normal, and he didn’t think she smelled particularly nice compared to anyone else. But his rider thought about her a lot- and had increasingly silly dreams about her. So, when Avicath spotted her crossing the Weyrbowl while his rider was sitting in a particularly boring lesson, he decided to investigate.
He was very sneaky, following behind her at a perfectly subtle distance, and freezing whenever she happened to glance back in his direction. She did so again, and he went totally still, even leaving one front foot up in the air.
The bronze dragonet was watching her. Aydhan wasn't entirely sure about it at first, but she'd turned around and stared at the frozen bronze statue. No one else was close enough for it to be, and his rider was nowhere in sight. So, she did what any amused weyrfolk would do.
She turned around and kept walking, pretending not to notice the large duckling sneaking after her.
Pleased with himself, Avicath resumed walking when she did, even daring to come a little closer, taking a dramatic, experimental sniff. No. He didn’t think she smelled like anything special at all. And her hair was fine, he supposed, but it didn’t look nearly as shiny as him, and certainly not like anything special.
}:I don’t get it.:{
**I know, it’s all new information, but we’ll pick it up quickly, and I’m taking notes.**
}:No.The girl is very small. Are you sure you don’t want a bigger one?:{ Golds were better than greens, after all, because they were bigger, and this one was definitely green sized compared to his rider.
**What… what are you doing.?** N’kevyn stopped taking notes, feeling a sinking dread.
}:And she smells very normal.:{
**Avi no….**
The bronze snorted loudly, disapprovingly, }:I’m very sneaky. She doesn’t know I’m following her.:{
Aydhan continued onwards, not entirely sure what was going on but trusting that the bronze dragonet wasn't pretending to hunt. When she stopped to chat with her friends, she got one of them to check and see if he was still following her. "Don't everyone look at once." She whispered, giggling. "I don't think he knows that we can see him. He looks like he's tiptoeing."
One of her friends leaned out to look behind Aydhan. “I think that’s little Nicky’s bronze. He had the lighter colored one. Does he think we can’t see him when he doesn’t move?”
N’kevyn gripped the side of his desk, trying not to either jump up to go haul the bronze off, or just melt into the floor and die of embarrassment. **Avicath, you come back here right now or I will never feed you again.**
The threat wasn’t sincere, but the bronze still stumbled to a halt , whirled, and stampeded back towards the barracks.
