J’nic pushed his chair back and stood, stretching his arms above his
head for a moment. He still wasn’t used to how much hidework was
needed in his role as Weyrlingmaster Third. **Can you see if
Tymborikath’s rider is available?** He hadn’t wanted to impose on the
Weyrhold’s newest goldrider immediately, but was interested in meeting
her if she was free.

}:Dear Tymborikath. Mine is on the Weyrlingstaff and would be
interested in meeting with Yours if she is free.:{

}: Are you coming too, darling? :{ Tymborkath asked. Then, after a
quick conference to her rider, }: Come on over. :{

}:Happy to stick around:{ Raileth said, curious to start getting to
know the gold. She relayed the message to her rider.

Aydhan took the time between the message and the sound of dragon wings
on the ledge to stretch out the muscles in her upper back. She was
used to hidework- she wasn't used to sitting for so long at a desk,
and despite how nicely she'd set up the few things in her office, it
was quickly losing its charm.

"J'nic! It's nice to put a face to a name." She said in a casual
greeting. "Business or pleasure? Can I interest you in a glass of
wine."

J’nic left the dragons to their conversation and smiled as he entered
the Weyrwoman's Second’s office. “Good to meet you Aydhan. I’m not
bringing any particular requests, so I suppose this is more about
pleasure,” he shared. “And, just a tiny bit of wine would be nice. I
need to be ready to go help at any time.” Full-time work on the
Weyrlingstaff was rewarding but time-consuming.

"Oh good, on both counts." Aydhan poured a little more wine that he
might have wanted and passed him the glass. "It's good to have a
Weyrlingmaster visit when the reason isn't my children. They're good
kids, but their father raised them. Have you been a Weyrlingmaster
long?"

J’nic took a small sip of the wine. “I haven’t met your son yet, but
your daughter took the initiative to come meet with me earlier today.
I’ll admit, it’s refreshing to talk to someone who is used to weyrlife
and happy to share her thoughts.”

Then, in response to her question, “I arrived here and joined the
Weyrlingstaff almost exactly a Turn ago. K’lvin, the Weyrlingmaster,
was excited to have someone with training as a mindhealer. I heard
you’re also a healer?"

"I heard there wasn't as many weyrkids around here." Aydhan said.
"It'll be good to have a mindhealer on staff, then. Weyrlife is hard
for the holders." Though, her eyes lit up at the thought of their
craft. "I am, though it's mostly hospice and mortuary. Terminal cases
and undertaking. Did you get your Journeyman knots before you
impressed?"

“Yes, there are a few transfers from other Weyr and a lot of holdbred
Candidates,” J’nic confirmed. “I often worked in the past with
Candidates and weyrlings struggling with aspects of weyrlife so it has
been exciting to be able to support them in a different way. “I
sometimes need to make sure I don’t turn meetings into mindhealing
sessions,” he admitted.

He already had a good feeling about Aydhan, and her specialization
only increased his interest. While all healers needed to be able to
handle death to an extent, most preferred not to face it constantly.
“No, I was a senior apprentice when I Impressed and was sidetracked
for a number of Turns. But, before the Pass, there was plenty of time
for crafting. How about you?”

"Similar story." Aydhan said, "Sidetracked by standing for Hatchings
as they came up, and then I got pregnant a few times. And then, of
course, Tymborikath." She gestured vaguely out towards the ledge. "I
got it eventually, though. Being the goldrider available for the
weyrhealers and dragonhealers isn't the most sought-after task, so I
got to work on my craft more than other folks might have."

J’nic nodded in understanding. “I feel fortunate to have been able to
be a dragonrider for Turns before Thread returned. Candidates like
your kids need to be so much more prepared than we were.” He thought
of his own daughter. “Speaking of your children, how did you convince
them to transfer? My daughter is still at Dragonsfall Weyr.”

Aydhan nodded, though the barest hint of a frown fluttered across her
face. "Do they ever. The two of them seem determined to Impress,
though I hope they know we would be proud of them no matter what
happens. We left the decision to move up to them, but we've always
been a close knit unit. My weyrmate, their father, moved here too, so
that helped. He practically raised them while I was in weyrling
training." Her smile returned, warm and fond.

"And of course, the warmth of the Southern Continent helped, along
with the prospect of firelizard hunts."

“Ah, yes. Firelizards and warm weather are a nice draw. My daughter is
an apprentice dragonhealer. I suggested she apprentice as a healer
instead, but she wouldn’t hear of it. She’s a stubborn one.”

At the mention of weyrmates, he smiled. “My weyrmate is a crafter, so
he was able to be more present with Diara as she was growing up.”
Another sip of wine. “Having a weyrmate does make everything easier.”

"It does." Aydhan agreed. "We could have fostered, and discussed it
before both kids were born. The Interval was a different time
entirely. I don't think we could have done it nowadays. It sounds like
your daughter is as intent to Impress as mine is, if she's keen on
dragonhealing. She's got better chances of impressing at Dragonsfall-
at least until we get another gold here." She frowned a little at
that. It was one of the sacrifices she'd asked of her own children
when they moved here. Fewer clutching queens meant fewer chances.

“That’s a good point.” Diara had never mentioned this as a
consideration, but he wondered if it was on her mind. “Luckily, I’m
able to get away pretty frequently to visit.” He finished off his
wine. “I don’t want to take any more of your time, but wanted to
introduce myself. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do as
you’re settling in.” He liked her and hoped they were able to cross
paths again soon.

"I will!" Aydhan rose to walk him out to the ledge. "And please visit
again. Tymborikath loves having visitors, as do I."

}: Yes, I do. :{ Tymborikath agreed. }: You must come over again, Raileth. :{
