K'don

When Maciath had brought K'don back from that other weyr, he had been too
absorbed in his own worry about what he had done, what had happened,
and he was going to say to listen to his dragon.

But Maciath was not just going to let the Weyrwoman be blindsided.
That would certainly not serve K'don well at all. So, he bespoke Panitath.

}:My lady Panitath, there has been an upset. K'don and I bore his
sister west of the sweet sea to Chioneth's weyr so that she could
bespeak the blue whose rider is a woman. Both of them became angry to
the edge of wroth and Chioneth and Kyverth had to come between and
soothe the little one. He almost went /between/ out of fright.:{

}:Chioneth and her weyrwoman come even now to bespeak you about this
happening and its fallout. I wanted only to warn you. K'don bespeaks
Kularth's rider now. I beg you forgive his forgetting to warn you and
your weyrwoman himselfâ€" he is bestraught with guilt and worry and
cannot listen to me.:{

}:As well they should,:{ Panitath answered. }:Thank you for the
report. Mine wishes to see yours. Please send him to her office.)

K'don had scarcely left R'lor's office when he heard Cyradis's
summons. He would not, then, have time to wash his face after all. He
took a deep breath and went straight to the Weyrwoman's office instead
of back to his weyr.

**Thanks for telling her,** he said. **I wasn't even thinking.**

}:So now you are ready to hear me?:{

**I'm sorry. It's all just... a lot.**

"You asked for me, ma'am?" he announced himself when he arrived. It
was obvious he had been crying.

"Yes," Cyradis said with a tilt of her lips and motioned to a chair
across from her. "Lady Saibra is on her way," she said, giving her
former 'second her appropriate title. "I expect her shortly. What can
you tell me about what happened?"

K'don sat on the edge of the chair at attention and took a deep
breath, readying himself to repeat the story againâ€" without the tears
this time, he hoped. He could not make himself look Cyradis in the
eye.

"Naradis asked me to carry her to Dragonsfall so she could speak to
Kadira, the girl who Impressed a blue. She wanted to understand
something about herself, about whether she could Impress. But the
longer they talked, the more upset they got. I tried to make Naradis
leave a bunch of times, but no matter what I said or did, she was too
mad to listen to me.

"The baby got very upset, and Maciath tried to calm him down, but it
didn't work. Someone else had to come help, one of their
weyrlingmasters, I guess?"

}:He was a wingleader,:{ Maciath corrected.

"Mash says he was a wingleader. But even that wasn't enough. Chioneth
had to come keep the little blue from panicking and going /between/.
Lady Saibra said she would bring Naradis to discuss what happened with
you, and she told me to leave and never come back. So I did. I went
looking for K'sedel to report, but I found R'lor first, so I told him
what happened. I asked him to see if there's any punishment I can
serve for Lady Saibra for causing this mess...

"And then he said you would call for me when you were ready."

It was all very calm and matter of fact by this point. Detached. K'don
had to separate himself from feeling it, or he would break down again.
He held his breath and winced as he waited for Cyradis's shoe to drop.

**Naradis** she spit the name in her mind **Stupid, self centered,
teenager. Too much like your father,** she lifted her chin then
nodded. "Well," she said out loud, that couldn't have been easy for
you." She forced herself to remain calm at least outwardly. "I would
ask that you not take her anywhere in the future without informing
Panitath." She sat back in her chair. "I have hopes for you
brownrider," she said. "This is not your fault but my daughter's. She
had no right to do what she did. I will deal with it. I'll discuss
your participation with Lady Saibra." She added as she could see he
still felt guilty and sad.

K'don was not sure whether to be reassured that Cyradis did not hold
him fully responsible or devastated at her use of impersonal language.
At the very least, given what relief he had, he could manage to
remember to be concerned about Naradis, too.

"I think... something has to be really wrong for her to have acted
that way. I know it's not an excuse, but... I think she needs help,
too. Er, ma'am."

"Yes," Cyradis agreed but then her daughter was at the age where she
believed she knew everything and didn't know how much she didn't know.
A very dangerous time from some teens. "And I will take that into
account."

"Ah," she added. "Saibra has arrived." She motioned him to the door
with her eyes. She didn't expect he'd want to hang around to see the
Dragonsfall Weyrwoman arrive.

K'don jumped up, saluted, and high-tailed it out of there. He was far less worried about seeing Saibra as he was about her seeing him.
