F'aen and T'ner were on their way to his weyr from having their drink when the greenrider felt the change happen. One second he was laughing at something T'ner said and then the next he had to put a hand out to steady himself as a brief wash of vertigo lapped over him. It was as though he could simultaneously see his vision and through Scarleth's eyes as well.
"Scarleth's rising," he said to T'ner. He'd known she was proddy and he had joked about it just a few minutes ago with the younger bluerider, but he hadn't expected her to literally rise that day. "I have to get to the flight rooms."
T'ner steadied F'aen, too, with an arm around his waist.
"Come with me," he said. "I'll get you there." Maybe Lehystrath would win. He had to win.
}:I will fly my best,:{ the blue promised. }:As will Scarleth.:{
F'aen barely even knew that T'ner was by his side as they walked do the flightrooms. By the time they walked in some other dragonriders had entered, a few blue and brownriders, many of whom F'aen knew. He quickly lost track of them as he closed his eyes and joined with Scarleth completely, suddenly seeing the world through her eyes.
Scarleth screeched and hissed at the suitors before launching herself into the air. She could see that the brown who had flown her last time was there and that had been a good flight. Perhaps he would win again, she thought, but then her attention was caught by the eager Lehystrath. Or maybe not.
Once he knew he had gotten F'aen safely to the flightrooms, T'ner let himself go and be subsumed entirely into Lehystrath. One body, one mind. He let go more completely than he ever had before. This time, he had to believe he would wake up next to F'aen. Because he would not likely have the presence of mind to avoid ending up with someone this time.
}:The time for words has passed, most lovely Scarleth. Let me now show you what I can do.:{
While Lehystrath loved to flourish and show off when he flew ordinarily, this was different. There was no room for wasted motion. Wasted effort. Every bit of his focus and performance had to go into outflying the other oafs, staying close to beautiful Scarleth, and being ready to reach out to join with her when the time was right.
Scarleth wound her way through the clouds, leading the pack of males out over the water where the sun was nearly blinding as it reflected off of the ocean. She was wily and smart, for a green, and she hissed in delight when a much older male dove out of the fast-paced flight to cool off in the water instead. }:Unworthy!:{ she declared.
Oafs, every one of them. Incapable of playing the leading man on this stage. Lehystrath was clever, too. Clever and fast and agile. He could stay with her. He could be there with her. He could be the leading man.
Lehystrath's plans nearly came to a crashing end when a veteran brown swooped near to Scarleth, nearly managing to grab onto her with his talons. The green caught a glimpse of the shadow coming from behind her and tucked her wings quickly to drop, like a stone, through the air and away from the brown. **Close one!** she called in an amused crow of triumph, before suddenly finding herself entangled with another dragon's neck. **Who?!** she bugled in surprise.
}:It is I, of course,:{ Lehystrath assured her as he twined himself around her. So close had that been, but it had driven Scarleth right into his arms. He would have to thank the brown. If he remembered.
T'ner, too, pulled F'aen into his arms and carried him to the bed in the closest flight room, only half aware of what he was doing on the ground. It was easier for him and for Lehystrath to see what they were doing on the ground when they did not have to focus at all on where they were in the sky. Not for a moment or three, anyway.
F'aen barely registered the sound of the seams of his shirt popping as the garment was practically ripped open and tossed out of the way. He met the kisses of his winner ardently as boots and belts were yanked off and clattered to the floor.
It was actually the Lehystrath half of the pair who pressed the T'ner half to remember, to focus as much as he could on the lesson he had with F'aen. T'ner wanted to press ahead quickly, but he heeded Lehystrath, who was perhaps surprisingly sweet and gentle with Scarleth.
T'ner made it to the bed naked – or close to it – though he was not entirely aware of where every bit of his or F'aen's clothing ended up, and he lifted the greenrider onto it, laid him back as gently as he could manage, even as he kissed him passionately. Perhaps his efforts to be gentle only resulted in him not being too rough, but they achieved something.
There was nothing reserved or gentle about F'aen, he ached to be taken by his captor. His nails found their way down T'ner's sides as he broke their kiss to nibble a line of kisses and bites down the bluerider's neck.
*fade*
Some time later, F'aen woke with a much clearer mind and when he looked over to see that it was T'ner beside him, a smile tugged across his lips. With T'ner still asleep, F'aen sat up and stretched before leaving the bed to pour them each a glass of water.
When he returned to the bed, T'ner was just beginning to stir. "Apparently you didn't need extra lessons," F'aen said with a smirk as he handed the bluerider his water.
T'ner did not realize just how thirsty he was until the water touched his lips. He downed the whole glass in one go.
"Well," he said as he finished, then took a deep breath. "Well," he continued, "a bit more practice never hurt anyone." He smiled back at F'aen. "Thank you. For the water. And the flight. That was... intense."
"Oh, we're not done yet, drink up," F'aen said with a wink.
T'ner's face lit up like a light bulb, and he bounded to fetch more water, downing the whole thing again. "More for you?" he asked, grinning like a wherry.
"No more water." F'aen shook his head and then crooked his finger at T'ner. "Come 'ere."
T'ner's grin somehow found room to broaden, and he crawled back into the bed beside F'aen.
