Description: Stinky canines deserve a bath
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 8 of Turn 10
The moment the door opened, Stumpy romped in, leaving a trail of muddy paw prints and a pungent, rotten smell behind him. Wagging his tail and ignoring J'ackt's sudden choke of protest, he sauntered up to Alina, canine smile wide as he made to jump onto the bed.
"Sweet Faranth!"J'ackt covered his nose. "Stop him! " Outside, even Zith rumbled a protest, the big bronze immediately taking to the air away from the smell that filtered out of the weyr. Imarith followed a moment later.
Alina took one look at the canine and shrieked. "No! Absolutely not!" She glared at Stumpy and threw her embroidery hoop haphazardly onto the nearest table to keep it safe. "I-- oh blazes, what is that _smell_?!"
J'ackt grimaced as Stumpy skittered backwards from the bed, looking sheepish. "It smells like something rotten and dead. I think he rolled in something. Fah!" He waved his hand in the air, as if it could rid his surroundings of the stench."He needs a bath."
"Couldn't we just throw him into the lake?" Alina looked disparagingly toward where her nice, clean, _private_ bathing pool was. There was no way that Stumpy would get clean from just a swim, and no way that they'd be able to wash him in the lake without the canine wriggling away. Her skin took on a greenish tinge.
Holding his breath, J'ackt moved to grip Stumpy's collar and began tugging him towards the bathing pool. He shook his head towards Alina, then spoke through gritted teeth, sounding stuffed up. "Get the sweetsand please. It's going to take both of us."
Stumpy, seeing the direction he was being pulled towards, dropped on his haunches, then fell on his side with a whimper, tail tucked closely to his bottom. He squirmed on the floor, smearing a dark goop on the stone.
"Eeew, what is that!?" Alina shot a dark look at J'ackt. "He's your canine!"
"Smells like rotting offal." He'd seen and smelled similar before he came to the weyr. Where Stumpy had gotten into such a messes, he didn't know. "Shaffit, Stumpy, I'm not picking you up!" J'ackt looked up at Alina. "I'll owe you one, okay? Please just help and we can get the stink out quicker." Using more of his strength, he began to drag the resisting canine towards the heated bathing pool.
Alina stared at him, then threw her hands up in disgust. "Uuuugh! Fine. You owe me _big_." She swung her legs off the bed and hesitantly approached the canine. For a beast with three legs, he was awfully good at resisting. Wrinkling her nose, she put her hands on the smelly canine's chest and started helping push him toward the bathing pool.
Despite the canine's grunting and straining, when he finally was in the bathing area, Stumpy sniffed and jumped into the water as if it had been his plan all along. When he plopped down on the ledge in the water, however, he looked at Alina with dark, sad eyes, as though she had personally betrayed him to the warm heated bath and soaping that he was about to get. His ears pinned back and he whined softly, resting his chin on the side of the pool while he stared up at her piteously.
J'ackt snorted, stripping out of his clothes before crouching at the edge of the pool. "Pathetic mutt. She's not going to feel sorry for you." He was answered by a slow, groan of complaint, Stumpy's eyes never leaving Alina's.
Alina tore her attention from J'ackt's naked skin to glare at the canine. He did have the softest brown eyes... but that would in no way endear him enough to allow that stinking fur anywhere in her weyr. "Nice try, mutt. Just be glad that you're not getting an ovine dip."
Stumpy whined softly, and the flick of his tail could be seen through the water even as the circulating hot water began to show trails of dark filth washing away from him. J'ackt rolled his eyes and scooped up handfuls of sweet sand and began to scrub along the canine's sides. He glanced up at Alina and cracked a quick grin. "Come on now, help out." He eyed her clothes and his teeth flashed a bit more. "It'll go quicker."
Dirt and Faranth only knew what was swirling in that water. Hesitantly Alina reached for the hem of her tunic, her nose wrinkled in distaste. "I don't know. It looks like you're doing a pretty good job already."
J'ackt gave a soft chuckle. "Then you concentrate on his head and neck and stay out of the water. I'll do the rest, deal?" J'acks began to scrub, which made Stumpy wiggle in delight, and his mouth stretched in a canine expression of extreme pleasure. Beneath the water, a leg thumped vigorously, sending up wild splashes.
"Ugh. Fine!" Her tunic - her nice tunic with the little leaves embroidered at the collar - came off before Stumpy could stain it any
further and Alina knelt to grab a handful of sweetsand. She did her best to avoid Stumpy's happy tongue as she started to wash the gunk off his head. "Tell me again, why I let you keep an animal in our weyr?"
His eyes followed her movements with interest, hands slowing down as she disrobed. As she crouched, he remembered what he was supposed to be doing and began to scrub again. "Because secretly you adore him and his company. And because he'd whine if we didn't let him in to cuddle with you." He snorted. "Honestly, I think he likes you more than me."
She arched an eyebrow. "That's because I smell better."
J'ackt lifted a brow and smirked. "Can't deny that, but maybe it's because you sneak him bits of food under the table. Don't think I haven't seen you."
"You lying liar. I would never." Alina rolled her eyes so she wouldn't have to meet J'ackt's. Darn him for noticing!
"Just admit it, sweetheart. Stumpy's got you wrapped around his... stump." The canine continued to thump his leg, then snorted the water J'ackt had poured over his head all over Alina's feet.
The greenrider yelped and shot her weyrmate a dirty look. "You did that on purpose!"
Despite practice, J'ackt simply couldn't pull off an innocent expression. Instead, it broke and a wide grin that crinkled the corner
of his eyes spread over his face. "I can't force him to sneeze." He finished rinsing Stumpy off and was glad to see the grimy water replaced with hot, clear water as it circulated through. "Almost done."
The water was almost clear-- so Alina very deliberately splashed J'ackt back.
There was a splutter, then out from under a sheath of blonde hair that barely covered his eyes, there was a glint. Without waiting, J'ackt lunged and grabbed Alina's legs. "You asked for it." Moving quickly to grip her hips, he lifted.
Alina yelped, Stumpy jumped, and all three of them lost their balance and fell into the bath with a mighty splash. Alina squirmed to break free of J'ackt's grasp but ended up giving in and wrapping her legs around him instead, half to mock-drown him and half to keep her balance as Stumpy tried to get in on the fun.
Thoroughly and completely dunked, J'ackt came sputtering up with his arms full of his weyrmate and his face being slobbered on by a rambunctious canine. Stumpy, his tail wildly whipping as he leaped in and out of the water, proceeded to soak his people and the floor with puppy-ish intensity. "Gack! Stumpy! Faranth!!" J'ackt tried to wave off the canine with one hand, but the armful wrapped around him didn't allow for it. Instead, he moved to firmly grip the nice bottom presented to him and mock scowled down at her. "This mess is all your fault."
"No it's not!" Alina spluttered. "And now it's your fault that Stumpy will want to be in the bath with us forever!"
"You started the splashing." J'ackt accused, then paused. "Well, Stumpy started the splashing but you followed it and attacked me. I was completely innocent." He squeezed her bottom with both hands. "Completely innocent."
Alina yelped. "You-- dirty fiend!" And then she sat down, putting her dragonriding-sculpted legs behind the action.
"Hey! I'm clean by now!" The abrupt change in her position tipped him over and he sprawled over her, only catching himself by his upper arms. "Not fair. You know, if you wanted me in this position, all you had to do is ask."
Stumpy, in his youthful canine exuberance, leaped out of the water and shook himself, splattering them once again. He glanced at the two and the shift in his expression should have warned both of them. With a canine grin, he sprang from the bathing chamber and darted, still dripping, towards their bed.
"No!" Alina lunged to catch the canine and got tangled up with J'ackt, sending them both back into the bath.
J'ackt fell back into the water, thoroughly dunked by the tangling of their legs. He rose, spluttering water out of his face. "Stumpy! Faranth take it all, you arse!"
Stumpy skittered to a stop right beside their bed and looked over his shoulder, rapidly wagging his tail. He tilted his head at the pair of them, blinked, then proceeded to shake vigorously. The water sprayed everywhere, soaking the side of the bed and the floor.
Alina shrieked in horror. What if he'd gotten her sewing wet? Her embroidered pillow!? "I'm going to _skin_ that miserable beast!"
The moment the shriek was uttered, Stumpy whimpered, tucked his tail between his legs, and dashed onto the ledge to hide on Zith's couch, burrowing under the padding.
J'ackt wiped his face with a sigh and using his arms, hefted himself out of the pool. "It's okay. I'll clean it up. Shaffing mutt." He offered a hand to Alina. "Come on. It'll dry, sweet."
"No it won't! What about my silk ribbon-- that'll get water stains! And my nice leather jacket! Or the dye in my thread-- my bed will smell like wet _canine_!" she wailed.
J'ackt winced, grabbed a towel and quickly scrubbed himself dry. Pacing out to examine the damage on the bed, he rubbed his face, then sighed with relief. He held up her embroidery, which only had a few drops on it. "This is fine." He looked down at the bed. "Look, I'll get another silk ribbon and I'll take the bedding down to the laundry. And your jacket to get cleaned."
"Promise?" Alina wrapped a towel around her middle for the sake of modesty and she left a trail of wet footprints on the floor as she joined her weyrmate and inspect the damage.
"Of course." He sighed and stepped back, letting her look. It wasn't _that_ bad in his opinion, but his idea of undamaged was much different than her own. "He's a canine, that's what they do."
"He's _your_ canine," she muttered, wrapping her arms around J'ackt's wet middle. Thankfully the mattress didn't look soaked, and she hadn't liked that ribbon much anyway... "Can you get me a green ribbon? Or a light blue one? A light blue one would go nicely with my old day dress... or if you got me _two_ ribbons I could weave them into my hair..."
He didn't point out that Stumpy seemed to prefer her company. Being naked, he chose to preserve his manhood until she was comforted enough. So, he opted for what he thought would be the wiser move. "Of course. Two ribbons. Any color you want. Light blue. I'll go to the Weavercraft Hall first thing in the morning. After drills." He stroked his hand down her back to soothe her.
"I _suppose_ I can overlook the stupid canine this time, then..." Alina leaned into his touch, letting herself be soothed. "He's still your pet, though. Not mine."
**Until the next time he turns those eyes at you.** He hid his smile. "Of course, Alina."
