Description: J'ackt and Alina make plans to visit a friend for her birthingday
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 10 of Turn 10
Notes: Mentioned: Saidrene
It was well after dinner, and Alina was lying in bed squinting at the
smudged, tight type in a poorly printed Harper's tale. She'd gotten it
from one of her wingmates, and it was about a greenrider before Thread
came back who flew around Pern rescuing people from landslides and
floods, and generally having all sorts of adventures. It made her
think of Saidrene. After a while she sighed and set it aside. "Hey
J'ackt?"
"Hm?" J'ackt sat at their table, checking over his straps once again.
Though Jerinne was gone, the fact that she'd sabotaged his straps had
made him doubly careful. He slid his hands along the bindings,
checking the stitches.
He wasn't paying attention. Alina got up and gently pulled the straps
from J'ackt's hands so that she could slip onto his lap, and then
wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him to make sure that he
really was focused on her. "It's the second month of the Turn. We
should go visit Saidrene."
"Hey..." His protest died as Alina slid into his lap and his lips were
covered. His attention successfully diverted, his arms slid around
her waist, returning the kiss until she pulled away. But instead of
focusing on her words, J'ackt began nuzzling her neck, now focused
on the fact that she was in his lap. "Uh huh. Sure." Then he blinked
and pulled away, tilting his head to peer at her. "Saidrene? Well,
yeah I'd like to, but she's been a bit busy last couple of times I've
tried. Weyrhold's keeping all of the riders busy, really." He stroked
his hand along her back. "But yeah, I'd like to see her too." He
sighed. "Guess we both miss her, huh?"
"I do, all the time. Turnover wasn't nearly as much fun without her.
But you never told me you've been to Barrier Lake." Alina stuck her
lower lip out in a pout. "Next time tell me and we can go together."
J'ackt tapped at Alina's lower lip. "Been there a few times to see
Timassa." **And Saidrene**, he added silently. but that situation had
been so difficult for them both, he'd not shared it with Alina. He
kissed the tip of her nose. "But yeah, I can do that. When do you
want to go?"
"Well... it's her birthing day near the end of the month. I was
thinking I'd send a message and see if she wants to come out to a
beach or something with us on the last restday of the month. Or we
could join her there if she wants to celebrate with others." Alina
paused, thinking. "I really ought to get her a birthing day gift."
He'd never really considered birthing days important, having never
celebrated his own, but he nodded. "I'm sure she'd like what ever you
get her. And a visit, if she's not busy. A beach day would be nice."
He paused, then looked down at her. "You're going to wear a swimsuit?"
A grin spread on his face. "A real one? Both of you? Are you sure it's
not going to be my birthingday?"
Alina rolled her eyes, somewhat uncomfortable with the way J'ackt's
eyes lit up when he mentioned his cousin half-clothed. "You know I
can't swim. I was thinking more of a picnic, or a bonfire. I don't
know."
"We're really going to have to work on that, Alina. I can teach you
and then get you a bathing suit that'll show off all those curves. "
He kept his grin. "A picnic would be fine. Let's see what she'd like
to do before we make plans without her. What are you wanting to get
her?"
"I don't know." The greenrider sighed. "I'll probably make her
something. But you're right-- I'll let her pick the place. I'll send a
message tomorrow."
"She likes books." He frowned in thought. "Huh.. I don't think I've
ever given her anything. I know you like yarn and doing those loop
things." He stroked his hand along her back. "Maybe I'll see if the
smiths could craft her a nice dagger or something. "
"That sounds expensive. You could always fix up an old dagger from the
store rooms, though. You could use leather scraps from making flight
jackets to wrap a pommel. I bet the Headwoman wouldn't mind."
He considered her suggestion. "Yeah, I guess that could work. I've
done that before and I'm sure that they have some nicer leather scraps
around that have a nice shine or buff to them. And I know how to clean
up an old blade." Faranth knew he'd done that often enough. "Good
idea." He kissed her brow. "Thanks."
She smiled. "If you really wanted to spend the marks, you could spend
it on a pommel stone, maybe."
"Hmmm. Could." He agreed easily, then looked down at her. "I didn't
get you anything for your last birthing day, did I? I guess I don't
think about them much, so you'll have to remind me."
Alina arched an eyebrow. "Do you even know when my birthding day is?"
Somehow instinctively, J'ackt knew that her question meant that he was
in trouble. "Uh..." A lot of trouble. He honestly didn't know.
Shards, he'd only just found out last turn what his own was.
Tightening his arms around Alina, and making sure her free arm was
tucked securely under his own, he spent shook his head. "No?"
Alina rolled her eyes, hiding a smile as she did so. She was already
well aware that the bronzerider had no clue. "The fourteenth day of
the ninth month. And now you know for next turn. And _you_ have a
birthing day in the fourth month." She wiggled her trapped fingers in
an attempt to tickle him.
"You know I'm probably not going to remember if it's that far away,
right? I doubt I'll remember mine." He jerked his ribs away from her
wiggling fingers and smothered a chuckle. "I should have never let you
know about that spot."
"No, that was an _excellent_ idea." The greenrider grinned wickedly at
him. "You should _definitely_ have told me about that spot. It's the
kind of thing that weyrmates should know-- and remember. Any more
important spots I should be aware of?"
He released her to grab at her fingers before he could could burst out
with a louder laugh. At her question, he arched a brow and a slow
wicked smile of his own spread on his face. "Yeah. Lower." And he knew
a few places of her own that he could exploit. "Almost right were
yours are." His fingers darted to wiggle along her inner thigh.
Alina yelped and tried to squirm free. "You tunnelsnake! That's not fair!"
"Oh no, woman, it's totally fair." He tightened his arms around her
and attacked the sensitive skin and muscles of her inner thighs. "Keep
wiggling. You can do that _all_ day."
The greenrider tried to escape, but J'ackt had her well and truly caught. She didn't mind. It wasn't as if the tickling lasted much longer before they moved onto other pursuits.
