K'ran

K'ran

"So tell me, are you relieved or disappointed that Rogueth didn't
catch Panitath?" K'lvin asked as he and K'ran sat on his ledge,
sipping some rather fiery liquor.

"A little disappointed," K'ran confessed. "I don't wish to remove
N'vanik from his spot. He does great work here with Cyradis. But
Rogueth and I miss it. Even after only having it once."

"Well, I suppose there is always next time," he said, even though he
didn't figure that was much help.

"There is," he agreed. "Did Xmrenth Chase? I thought Rogueth snarled at him."

K'lvin laughed, "He did chase, and I think if that didn't give me a
heart attack, maybe nothing will. He was so set to prove himself."

K'ran modded. "You think the Healers would take that as evidence you
could try re-drilling?"

"Probably not," he frowned a little, "it was Xmrenth doing all of the
work. Well, that is, until the flight was over."

"Did something happen?" K'ran asked.

"You could say that," K'lvin looked over at his friend. "She came down
there looking for me, and well, she found me."

K'ran tilted his head. "Who's she?"

"Riveenata," K'lvin took a sip of his drink. He normally wasn't one to
'kiss and tell' but for once, he really wanted to do just that since
there was no one else he would really talk to about it except for
Irrkali.

"She went looking for you in the flight rooms? Iiinteresting."

"Yes, apparently she was 'worried about my heart'," he was having a
hard time containing his grin.

Well I gather you two gave it a workout after that," K'ran teased.

K'lvin had a sneaky look in his eyes, "Well, she's a healer, and we
wanted to make sure we were thorough." The bronzerider waved his hand,
"But what about you? I heard Rogueth caught a green himself."

"Ashareth. Saidrene's in my wing, so it's a bit awkward. suppose that
made it easier for Rogueth to track her patterns."

"Ah, a Weyrwoman's daughter. What's made it awkward?" K'lvin asked.

"She's one of my wingriders, so I keep having to see her."

"Ah," K'lvin knew what that had been like as a former Wingleader
himself. "Well, is it awkward because it was bad, or because it was
really good?" he pried.

"It was very good. I don't usually seek a lot of company outside of
flights so it had been awhile, and, well." He actually blushed a
little.

K'lvin's eyebrows rose a little, he knew his friend had been without
female company since Genna, "I take it she was a.. responsive
partner?"

"Yes. It was something... I keep thinking about it. and I feel like I
shouldn't, since she's one of my riders."

"Well, I mean, you're only human, K'ran, not made of stone. When
something nice comes our way, especially after what we went through
with River Bluff, then sometimes you just have to hold on to it for a
bit and enjoy it." K'lvin almost felt as if he were talking about
himself and Riveenata in a way.

"You have a good point," K'ran admitted.

He still missed Genna substantially. His emotions with Jayzine had
been interesting - everything a slow burn, like he'd always felt. With
Saidrene he felt a strong, sitting physical interest, in a way he
wasn't used to.

"Continuing to go after it would be a problem as long as she's in my
wing, though."

K'lvin nodded, it was one of the oldest rules in the book, not dating
or having relations with a subordinate. That didn't make it any
easier, however. "Yes, I suppose that is something to consider, or if
it's something you'd even want to consider, her moving to another Wing
to open things up."

He considered that. "It's a shame, because she transferred to our wing
to improve our integration. I don't want to send her away and make her
think she did anything wrong."

"I suppose you could assure her from the bedroom that she didn't do
anything wrong," K'lvin laughed.

"That would be convincing enough, I suppose." Though it sounded a little
embarrassing.

"You should join me and A'kades this week for drinks and cards,"
K'lvin said, changing the subject.

"Is it a regular social night?" he asked.

"Yeah, you know how he is. He's still kinda closed off over Lenala and
everything." Not that he could blame him, K'lvin thought.

"They were going to weyrmate, I imagine? They seemed very close. It's
a shame." And K'lvin knew that pain himself as well. "I suppose if you
need someone more jovial to lighten up your meetings," he joked.

K'lvin barked out a laugh, "That's right, you can also bring the alcohol."

K'ran laughed. "That, I can do. We can make it a night of happy talk."

"Agreed. Only good stories allowed."

"I'll make sure to bring some, then. What if I borrowed one of those
salacious cheap pamphlets I know the greenriders pass around?"

K'lvin snapped his fingers, "That's perfect! I haven't seen one of
those in ages."

"Well, I'll get that on the list then," K'ran said. The invitation already
made him feel better.
