"Do you have a moment?" D"hol stood at the doorway of the office, a
roll of hides in his hand. "I won't take much of your time."

N'vanik nodded. "Come in." He hoped it was business. The two of them
could at least function together in a professional capacity.

He entered, tapping his the hides against his palm. He studied the
younger man for a moment. "Congratulations on winning the Flight." He handed
him the hides. "It seems as though I'll have a Wingthird soon."

"Oh?" The Weyrleader arched a brow as he took the hides.

"Yes. Experienced and skilled." He leaned against the wall. "And
related to J'ackt." D'hol nodded at the hides. "Timassa has
transferred here. Once she meets with K'deren and if he agrees, she'll
be put in place."

J'ackt... Timassa. "His aunt? Does J'ackt know?" That could get messy.
Good thing she was going to a different Wing.

D'hol shrugged. "I don't know. I never speak to him to be honest and
it's not really any of my business as long as it doesn't impact my
wing and how it performs." He nodded at the hides. "But she'll be
joining our regular Wing meetings if her interview with K'deren goes
well. No final decision has been made yet."

N'vanik nodded. "With them being in separate Wings, it should keep any
potential drama outside of duties." He was going to make sure J'ackt
knew as soon as this meeting was over. "I'm glad Cyclone is getting a
Wingthird, if everything works out." If D'hol was choosing a new
arrival like this, she must have an impressive record.

"I think my wing has had enough of drama and quite frankly, my
tolerance level for it has greatly decreased." The reply plainspoken.
"I'm too old for it." He arched a brow. "I'm surprised you're not
grooming J'ackt for the position in your wing."

"He's not fond of leading, and I'm not going to push him into it.
Besides, he's young and he's got plenty of other things to worry about
without adding responsibility for others," N'vanik said.

"You won't have to push him. His dragon will." D'hol then shrugged.
"But you know him much better than I do." He frowned. "If there are
any problems between J'ackt and Timassa that effect your wing, let me
know and I'll handle it on my end as you handle it on yours. " He
paused and considered N'vanik for a long moment with a frown, then
straightened from his lean. "N'vanik, on a personal level, I owe you
an apology."

"What?" It was so unexpected it caught N'vanik off guard.

D'hol's brow rose at N'vanik's surprise and his lips curled in a
slight smile. It would have been a bigger smile, simply for the
amusement of shocking him, if his mind hadn't been elsewhere. "An
apology, N'vanik. About my reactions regarding you winning Panitath's
flights and about Dheymin. You were right and I was not."

"I should go out and make sure the sun's still in the sky and water is
still wet." N'vanik regarded him for a moment, wondering what brought
this on. Maybe D'hol's former weyrmate returning had stirred something
up. Maybe they'd talked. "I appreciate you admitting it."

The look that D'hol gave N'vanik was a mixture of annoyance and
amusement. "Yes, well, don't expect it happening often. Probably about
as often as you admit to mistakes."

"You don't hear me admit that much because you don't spend a lot of
time around me," the Weyrleader said. "Besides, I make fewer mistakes
than I used to."

D'hol decided to leave it alone. If N'vanik didn't believe he'd made
his own mistakes in their interactions, it wouldn't help to mention
them. As it was, he had done what was needed. "I'm sure you do. Now,
if you'll excuse me, I'll leave you to your duties."

"D'hol, that clenched fist you've got inside you, all that anger. . .
it feels good to let it go. I hope you're starting to realize that."
N'vanik had fought against the world and his own feelings for so many
turns and all it had done is cause pain all around.

D'hol took a slow deep breath and spoke softly, measuring his words
carefully. "N'vanik, I am sure that you feel as though you are being
helpful, but considering how little respect or liking for me that you
have, it ... feels patronizing, not to mention belittling. I would ask
you with all due respect, to not offer your advice to someone who has
as much pride and desire for dignity as yourself, unless it's asked
for."

"You're worse than J'ackt," N'vanik muttered, shaking his head.
Everything was always a fight, no matter what. "I do respect you, as a
rider and a Wingleader. And for the record I only hate you a little
bit."

D'hol's response was dry, but he surprisingly remained calm and his
temper didn't rise."You're a good leader, N'vanik, I'll admit that.
But from personal experience, when _you_ dislike someone, you also
tend assume the worst about them and what they say instead of actually
listening to what they are saying." D'hol frowned and directly met
N'vanik's gaze. "You can hate me all you like, but you can't blame
every argument on me alone. I may get fecking pissed off at you and
lose my temper, but I will, once I've calmed down, seriously consider
what you've said and believe or not, I've made adjustments afterwards.
I wish I could say the same of you, but I can't. And unfortunately, I
doubt that will change. " He offered a brief uplift of lips and
inclined his head. "Have a good evening, Weyrleader."

N'vanik didn't stop him this time. It was amazing how D'hol always had
to be right, even when apologizing for doing something wrong.
