J'ackt

}:Mine would like to see yours in his office,:{ Loseth told Zith.

}: Mine says that he didn't do it. :{ There was a pause. }: Did he do
something?:{ There was a touch of humor to the bronze's reply, as if
amused by his rider's immediate reaction to the summons. }: He is
coming, but would like to be prepared. :{

Loseth cocked his head at the denial. }:He is not in trouble.:{

There was a mental pause as Zith relayed the information to his rider.
}: He is almost there. :{

It only a took a few moments, but the sharp rap against N'vanik's door
frame was heard shortly after. J'ackt stood in the doorway, brow
furrowed. "You wanted to see me?"

N'vanik kept his face neutral. "Come and have a seat. And remember,
you're not in trouble." He had to fight against a smile.

Studying N'vanik's face carefully, J'ackt took a seat across from him
and leaned back a bit. "I'm not?" He noticed a bit of tension around
N'vanik's mouth and his brow rose. "Uh huh."

"I actually have something for you." N'vanik opened a drawer and
pulled out a set of knots, laying them on the desk. Wingrider knots
for Hurricane Wing.

J'ackt frowned, looking at the knots, then leaned slowly forward. His
brow furrowed then shot upwards along with his gaze. "Knots?" He
picked them up and his lips lifted slowly into a grin. "I'm in your
wing? Finally? Cyradis thinks it's time?"

"We both do. You've proven yourself capable and responsible, and I
think you might enjoy taking on a greater challenge." N'vanik hoped he
wouldn't regret this. Not that he didn't believe J'ackt deserved it,
but Hurricane Wing flew at high altitude, a more dangerous position
than the low-flying Queens' Wing. Thread could take even the most
careful and experienced pairs, and it would break N'vanik's heart to
lose J'ackt.

" 'bout time." J'ackt grinned wryly, feeling lighter than he had in
several sevendays. After the budding relationship he had thought he
had with Alina collapsed, he hadn't felt much like smiling until this
moment. "I know Zith wants the wing. He's bored to tears in the
Queen's wing."

"Bored keeping the Queens safe, huh?" N'vanik asked wryly.

"He is." J'ackt agreed, fingering the knots in his hands. "You're not
going to stick me in charge of nines are you?"

"Not if you don't want it. We're chock full of ambitious riders of all
colors who want a chance at leadership," the Weyrleader said. "But if
Zith complains you might have to make some compromises."

"I don't." The fact that he didn't want to be responsible for others
hadn't changed. He did enjoy the rush he got from Threadfall,
Eventually, he was sure Zith would push for more, but at the moment,
the bronze was satisfied to be in the higher wing. He shrugged a bit.
"I'll handle that when it comes to it." Not if, but when. He knew his
bronze. Pulling off the knots from the gold wing, he replaced them
with the new. "They look better."

"They sure do," N'vanik agreed with a smile. J'ackt had come so far
from the injured, holdless boy brought into the Weyr. "Welcome to
Hurricane Wing."

"Thanks." He finished pinning them and rose. "You won't regret it."
